While Everyone Panicked, I Upgraded My Raft

Chapter 116: Chapter 110: Abyssal Octopus

Just as the thought crossed Rowan Rhodes’s mind and she prepared to investigate, she realized it wasn’t just the Fish Spear Guns in one direction that had activated—those in all four directions were moving.

The first wave of Fish Spear Guns had already deployed. The rest were locked onto their targets. Explosions echoed one after another, surrounding the raft and causing it to rock violently in the water.

Rowan rushed to the control room immediately.

The radar display had already scanned the presence of mutated marine creatures. It wasn’t just one; it was an entire school. A dense cluster of small red dots dotted the waters around the raft.

Looking at those red dots, Rowan couldn’t help but purse her lips. Although she had guessed that her raft level would attract a significant number of mutated marine creatures, this sheer quantity still exceeded her expectations.

Moreover, they seemed to be of different species. The red dots varied in size, indicating differences in physical proportions. Notably, the mutated marine creature that had just triggered the Fish Spear Guns’ automatic defense was the largest of them all. Naturally, its Speed was also the fastest.

In just a few moments, it had already reached the waters directly beneath her raft. Blaring alarms rang out continuously from the radar.

Rowan looked a bit surprised. The Damage Value of the Fish Spear Guns was nothing to scoff at. Having fired several shots at once, they should have inflicted at least some injuries on the mutated marine creature. However, judging by its relentless advancing Speed, it seemed the Fish Spear Guns’ damage had zero effect. She realized this mutated marine creature was far from simple and wondered what on earth it could be.

Even as she muttered to herself, Rowan reloaded the Fish Spear Guns. The second wave of Fish Spear Guns launched their assault on the mutated marine creature. Because of the closer proximity, this wave of attacks was noticeably more effective.

Following the strike, the surrounding seawater began to churn violently. In the next moment, a massive tentacle slammed down directly onto her raft. With just that single strike, the raft’s Durability plummeted by several points.

Most importantly, it wasn’t just a single tentacle. In the blink of an eye, countless tentacles crashed onto the raft. As they hit, their suckers latched firmly onto the glass.

One look was all it took for Rowan to confirm the mutated marine creature’s identity.

An Abyssal Octopus.

From what Rowan knew, this was a marine creature that typically appeared in the Coastal Waters Region. It was utterly massive—the kind of beast capable of confronting a Sea Base head-on. Countless Sea Bases had been torn to pieces by Abyssal Octopuses. Its tentacles were especially terrifying, possessing the ability to regenerate severed limbs. It could easily be considered one of the overlords of the ocean.

Therefore, upon identifying this mutated marine creature, Rowan was genuinely startled. The Abyssal Octopus was already an overlord-tier existence on its own. Now that it had entered the virus zone and directly mutated from the viral infection, its combat power had doubled. The only silver lining was that this particular Abyssal Octopus wasn’t nearly as colossal as the ones found in the Coastal Waters Region. It was likely a difference in Level.

Although Rowan couldn’t clearly see how large this Abyssal Octopus was at the moment, she could determine its health bar through the data generated from its attacks. While she was evaluating the Abyssal Octopus’s combat capability, it continued to entangle the raft.

One, two... eight.

A total of eight tentacles emerged around the raft.

Two of them were main tentacles, covered in circular fleshy spikes that were incredibly sharp. As they coiled around, they left a series of fine scratches on the raft. The remaining six secondary tentacles were slightly thinner than the main ones and densely packed with suckers. Tiny venomous fangs protruded from the center of each sucker. Currently attached to the raft, they were actively corroding it.

Though its size was smaller, its toxicity had magnified under the virus apocalypse. Rowan could see that portions of the glass were already beginning to crack. It was worth noting that when Rowan installed the glass, she had reinforced it multiple times, giving it a relatively high base Durability. The fact that it was cracking now fully demonstrated just how much force these octopus tentacles were exerting on the raft.

For the first time, Rowan felt this was a thorny situation. After all, in her previous life, given her raft level, she had never actually encountered an Abyssal Octopus, let alone a virus-mutated version. As for those who had dealt with an Abyssal Octopus, they naturally wouldn’t share their experience freely. All her knowledge was based on fragmented words slipped by others.

As for the Fish Spear Guns, they were strictly underwater attack weapons. Once the Abyssal Octopus surfaced and climbed onto the raft, the Fish Spear Guns would likely become useless. Now, she was left with only two methods of attack: Burning Bullets and physical combat. And both required Rowan to take action personally.

Rowan let out a long breath. This time, it really was going to be difficult! But no matter how hard it was, she had to face it.

Rowan put on her diving oxygen Mask, stocked her backpack with a massive amount of Burning Bullets, and returned to the third floor. Upon reaching the third floor, she found the Seagull Family and the Big Turtle staring at the Abyssal Octopus, their eyes burning with intense fighting spirit.

Seeing this scene, Rowan’s mouth twitched. She thought, ”They don’t even consider the massive size difference between them. If they dare to show their faces, they’ll probably get swallowed whole!”

”You guys just keep doing what you were doing. Ignore it. Everything will be fine,” Rowan said seriously.

Difficult as it might be, Rowan had an abundance of resources on hand! Even in a war of attrition, she could hold out for a very long time. With the raft here, she truly wasn’t afraid.

With that, Rowan climbed up the Watchtower alone. On the entire raft, the Watchtower was the only place that provided her with the spatial freedom to launch an attack. It had sufficient height, and since it was part of the raft, it was protected by the raft’s Durability. Backed by her massive stockpile of resources, she could slowly grind this Abyssal Octopus to death. As for the other mutated marine creatures lurking on the seabed, the Fish Spear Guns should be able to handle them.

Soon, Rowan reached the top floor of the Watchtower. The top of the Watchtower was a circular space enclosed by a ring of metal and glass. Through the glass, she had a 360-degree, blind-spot-free view of her surroundings. Right at that moment, Rowan saw the octopus tentacles writhing incessantly.

In the blink of an eye, the tentacles grew larger and larger in her vision. With a violent upheaval, the colossal body of the octopus burst forth from the depths of the sea. A massive spray of water crashed over the raft, leaving streaks of water across the glass balcony.

The octopus’s gigantic head came eye-to-eye with Rowan. Two eerie, dark red, glowing eyes locked straight onto hers.

Rowan noticed that this Abyssal Octopus had two eyes in the front and two in the back. The moment their gazes met, Rowan felt her Sanity points plummeting wildly. In her personal data module, a new status had suddenly appeared.

Mental Attack Debuff.

While Rowan’s mind was reeling from the shock, the octopus had already opened the massive maw beneath its body, directly engulfing the Watchtower.

Its target was Rowan.
