Entertainment: Wanted to Acquire the Company on the First Day of Signing

164: SelectedJenny: ”It’s fine now, right? Since Stan has left, then he shouldn’t need to leave the school anymore.”

This result shocked not only Jenny and Anna, but the other onlookers at school were also incredibly surprised. However, they only thought Lu Qingyu was lucky.

Lu Qingyu didn’t care about any of that. He continued attending classes as usual, ignoring the gazes of other students; they couldn’t affect his rhythm at all.

After the news of the avatar casting call was posted online, thousands of resumes had already been received.

While surfing the web, Carter was suddenly thrilled to see this news. She had always dreamed of being a star, and during her freshman and sophomore years, she had even participated in the drama club organized by the school. Her dream was to become a movie star. Opportunities for movie casting calls didn’t come often, and she definitely had to give this one a try.

Carter shared the news with her best friend, Roy: ”Roy, look at this! This is great! I’ve decided to participate in the casting call.”

Roy understood Carter and knew she had always had this dream, so he encouraged her.

”This is indeed a good opportunity, Carter. You’re very talented at acting. I’m sure you’ll be selected if you participate.”

Carter excitedly thought about how to submit her resume for the casting call first. Just as the two were talking excitedly, someone interrupted them.

”The ugly duckling always dreams of becoming a white swan. Unfortunately, a duck is just a duck.”

Carter and Roy’s conversation was suddenly interrupted. Hearing the voice, the two turned around and found it was actually their classmate, Anna.

Anna had also decided to participate in this casting call. It wasn’t that she wanted to act that much, but the prize money was very tempting to her. Therefore, she had her sights set on the female lead position and was determined to win it.

What was Carter? She was average-looking, wore thick bangs all day, and was timid when she spoke. Her flat figure wasn’t attractive at all. Someone like her wouldn’t even be chosen for a supporting role, let alone the female lead. How did Carter have the nerve to participate in the casting call?

Before Carter could speak, Roy was the first to stand up for her.

”Anna, what you said is too much. Anyone who meets the requirements can participate. As for whether they get chosen, that’s up to the filmmakers and has nothing to do with you.”

Anna: ”Unless the filmmakers are blind, they should be able to see who can be selected and who can’t. People need to have self-awareness. Carter is ugly and tacky; how could this movie possibly choose her?”

Hearing this, Carter lowered her head somewhat self-consciously. Roy wanted to argue for Carter, but Carter didn’t want to hear Anna’s belittling words anymore, so she pulled Roy away.

Being forcibly dragged away, Roy was still a bit angry: ”Why didn’t you let me finish just now?”

Carter: ”Forget it, Roy. There are thousands of people participating in the casting call anyway. I’m certainly not the one with the best conditions.”

Roy: ”But your acting is very good.”

Carter smiled slightly at Roy’s recognition, thinking that her friend was just looking at her through a filter.

”Roy, thank you. No matter what, I will work hard.”

By the time the registration for avatar closed, the company had received over ten thousand resumes. For every role in the film, at least 400 people had signed up.

The first round of screening was handed over to the company’s employees. Based on the character descriptions in avatar, they first filtered out a group of people whose images didn’t match.

In the end, only ten candidates were shortlisted for the audition for each role.

From the moment she submitted her resume, Carter had been waiting for news. The notification was supposed to come today, but no specific time was noted. Carter had been distracted since she woke up in the morning, often spacing out during class.

During lunch, Carter checked her mobile email every two minutes.

Roy saw Carter’s nervousness and comforted her: ”Carter, don’t be nervous. You’re so excellent; the result will definitely be good.”

Carter: ”I’ve been feeling anxious all day. Until the result comes out, I won’t be able to eat.”

Roy continued to comfort Carter. Hans and Lu Qingyu also came to the cafeteria to eat. Hans was still a student and had to attend classes during the day; he would only go to the company to work overtime after school.

Today, he happened to run into Lu Qingyu, so the two went to the cafeteria to eat together.

It just so happened that Carter used to be Hans’s neighbor, and they were now at the same school. They followed each other on Instagram. When he was at the company, he saw the shortlist for the female lead. At first, when he heard the name Carter, he thought it was someone with the same name, but after seeing the photo, he realized it was his neighbor. He wanted to tell Carter the good news, but he couldn’t speak out of turn before the company made an official announcement.

Hans could only express his congratulations vaguely.

”Carter, I heard you also submitted a resume to the avatar crew. Good job.”

Carter smiled at Hans, who had walked over and sat in her row to eat, and said, ”Thank you, Hans. I just wanted to give it a try.”

Hans: ”Carter, you’ve always been great.”

Carter pursed her lips and smiled, but her face still bore an expression of self-doubt.

Hans: ”You need to have confidence in yourself. You’re so good-looking and have experience in stage plays; getting shortlisted will definitely not be a problem.”

Roy: ”See? I’m not the only one who thinks so.”

Anna and Jenny also came to the cafeteria to eat. Passing by, they happened to hear this. Anna couldn’t help but roll her eyes. What did she just hear? Someone actually praised Carter for being good-looking?

”My goodness, it’s been so many days, and yet there are still people daydreaming.”

Hearing this, the expression on Carter’s face turned to disappointment. Anna felt superior and had long forgotten that she and Carter came from similar backgrounds.

Jenny didn’t say anything, but she also agreed with Anna.

Roy was blunt: ”Anna, our business has nothing to do with you. We don’t need your commentary.”

Anna snorted coldly. She just wasn’t used to having someone like Carter among her competitors. In her eyes, Carter wasn’t worthy of being compared to her.

Anna: ”I’m also kindly reminding you that dreams always end. If you wake up a bit earlier, you’ll be less heartbroken.”

After mocking Carter, Anna still felt uncomfortable because Lu Qingyu was nearby.

In what way was she not better than Carter and the others? Why did Lu Qingyu insist on hanging out with this bunch of paupers?

Anna walked past Lu Qingyu: ”Lu, do you know? You made a wrong choice. By making friends with them, you’ll never become wealthy in this life.”

Anna’s family conditions were average, but since becoming friends with Jenny and the others, her material life had improved. Jenny and the others also had strong connections; as long as she stuck with them, she would be able to get their help after graduation.

Lu Qingyu was enjoying his meal and didn’t know why the conversation had suddenly turned to him. Just as he was about to retort, he suddenly heard a scream in his ear.

”I’m selected! I’m selected!”
