Entertainment: Wanted to Acquire the Company on the First Day of Signing

156: Technical incompetenceAfter the company was successfully acquired, Lu Qingyu considered having them film ”avatar.” He found some time to write out the story of ”avatar” and then asked the digital special effects team to create a sample to see the results.

The digital special effects team had four members in total, and the team leader was Avis. The script Lu Qingyu gave him had been drawn by himself, and Avis was greatly shocked when he saw it.

Their company had previously faced a crisis, and everyone thought their jobs were finished. Unexpectedly, the company was suddenly acquired, and all employees were allowed to stay. Avis was very happy to have kept his job and decided to work even harder to create value for the company.

However, later they heard that the company that acquired them was a financial firm, and Avis became somewhat worried. How could a financial firm understand the film industry?

The new leader was an Asian man with a handsome appearance, but apart from a small meeting when he first joined the company to introduce everyone, they had had no further contact.

Avis’s daily work now consisted of maintaining equipment, and there were no new projects. He had applied for the company to take on some outside work, but the company refused. This made him feel increasingly uneasy; if the company wasn’t making a profit, he was truly afraid that his newly stabilized job would disappear again.

Unexpectedly, in the afternoon, Su suddenly called them for a meeting, saying there was a new project.

Then they looked at the movie ”avatar.” Surprisingly, over ninety percent of the content required digital special effects. Having work made Avis especially happy. What made him even happier was that after reading the story, Avis thought it was fantastic. If they could really film this story, it would definitely be a huge hit.

Su Jixing had started working as the company’s Executive Director a week ago. Lu Qingyu had said they were going to film a new movie, and this time, he would serve as the Producer to independently execute the project.

Avis: ”Director, are there any other requirements for this?”

Su Jixing did not answer Avis, but instead looked at his watch: ”Wait a moment.”

Avis and the others didn’t know what they were waiting for, but since the Director had spoken, they waited.

About five minutes later, the door to the conference room was pushed open, and an overly handsome young man entered, carrying a backpack. His steps were light, and his face was slightly flushed, as if he had just done some exercise.

Avis thought this was an actor who was going to participate in the movie ”avatar,” but who knew the young man would suddenly walk to the very front? Su Jixing stood up, vacated his seat, and sat to the side.

When everyone saw this, their hearts skipped a beat.

Su Jixing: ”Boss, why are you here so late?”

Lu Qingyu: ”Big Brother, the school is 15 kilometers away from here. I was pedaling my bicycle so hard I was about to set it on fire.”

Su Jixing’s eyes widened. He didn’t understand why the boss hadn’t driven: ”There are cars at home, and the tanks are full. Why didn’t you drive here?”

Lu Qingyu was even more speechless. He wanted to, but where were the garage keys?

Because Su Jixing was going to work tomorrow, another car had been added to the garage, and the family had hired a housekeeper, Lisa. When he came back from school today, he had wanted to drive to the company, but Lisa said the garage keys were with Su Jixing. When Su Jixing drove the other car away in the morning, he had taken the keys with him.

Lu Qingyu: ”Where are the garage keys?”

Su Jixing was suddenly startled. Oh no: ”Uh... they are with me...”

”Then why didn’t you take a taxi?”

Lu Qingyu: ”Because they don’t accept Alipay, and I didn’t have any cash.”

Su Jixing: ??? He had exchanged quite a bit of small change for his boss, so how could he be out? ”Boss, where is your money?”

Lu Qingyu: ”I lost my wallet at noon.”

Su Jixing: —If he remembered correctly, this was the fourth time this month that Lu Qingyu had lost his wallet.

”You left your bag in the library again and went to the bathroom, didn’t you? How many times have I told you? This isn’t Longguo; you need to be careful.”

Having gotten used to electronic payments in Longguo, all you needed was a mobile phone. But that didn’t work abroad; they had to use paper currency for everything. Some strange shops wouldn’t even accept large bills, so Su Jixing had prepared a lot of small change for Lu Qingyu.

Lu Qingyu had never used a wallet before. It felt uncomfortable in his pocket, so he just kept it in his backpack. Then, a phenomenon occurred: every time he returned from the restroom, his wallet would be gone.

The first time, Lu Qingyu thought it was a coincidence and found it quite interesting—the first time he had ever lost a wallet in his life. But less than three days later, it happened a second time, followed by a third and a fourth.

The thief seemed to have become familiar with him and would return to him periodically to ”restock.” Lu Qingyu: ”I didn’t think I could lose it four times either.”

As the two talked, the people below were shocked. Su Jixing and Lu Qingyu were speaking Chinese, which the people below didn’t understand, but that didn’t prevent them from sensing the respect Su Jixing showed toward Lu Qingyu through his tone.

Everyone was a bit incredulous. Could this really be their company’s mysterious boss?

It wasn’t until Su Jixing officially introduced Lu Qingyu to everyone: ”This is our company’s boss, Lu. Boss, this is Avis, the team leader of the special effects group.”

Lu Qingyu reached out to shake Avis’s hand, and Avis immediately stepped forward respectfully.

He didn’t dare to look directly at Lu Qingyu, only daring to sneak a couple of glances. My god, he was so handsome and so young. Asian people were naturally young-looking; he didn’t even seem to be as old as his own son, yet he was already a company boss. This was just too incredible.

Lu Qingyu: ”Hello, Avis. From now on, the movie’s special effects will be left to you all.”

Avis nervously bowed to Lu Qingyu.

Everyone took their seats and began to discuss the movie’s special effects.

The meeting lasted for over an hour. Finally, Lu Qingyu said: ”If there are no questions, please produce a 30-second special effects sample for me to see the results.”

Avis and his team immediately stood up: ”Okay, Boss. We will definitely do our best.”

After Avis returned, he immediately started working with his team members. The next day, they sent the completed sample to Lu Qingyu.

Lu Qingyu happened to be eating lunch in the cafeteria when he received the email from Avis on his phone. He opened it immediately to look. The visuals looked okay, but the clarity wasn’t sufficient, and the realism of the digital creatures involved was lacking a bit.

If this were 3D, the experience wouldn’t be very good.

Lu Qingyu called Avis. After sending the email, Avis had been feeling anxious, not knowing what the boss would think after seeing it.

Suddenly, his phone rang, and Avis immediately picked it up: ”Boss, what do you think?”

Lu Qingyu: ”The crowd animation scenes lack some realism, and the creatures’ emotions aren’t expressed well enough. Can you improve them further?”

Avis embarrassedly rubbed his fingers. He felt that Lu Qingyu was truly very professional, so he had to be honest: ”Boss, this is currently the best we can do.”

Lu Qingyu pondered for a moment: ”What if I help you upgrade the equipment?”

Equipment for making special effects was not cheap. Avis really wanted an upgrade, but special effects required more than just equipment; they also required skill, which meant design capability.

Avis said very sincerely: ”Boss, I think we need people with better design capabilities.”
