The Female Lead Decides to Act Wickedly

Chapter 79: Chapter 071: The Whole Family is Top-grade (Part Three)_2

Compared to those individual proprietors and big bosses, they were simply beyond comparison.

Take the couple who sold breakfast on the street, they just deep-fried some dough sticks, yet with that, they could afford to buy their son a house in the county.

They even had a rather large motorcycle. Tsk tsk, it was said to be a genuine import from Japan, costing a few thousand each.

That family’s son was just a bit too short, He Tiantian didn’t fancy him; otherwise, she could have been directly married off to the county. Even without a job, with her in-laws’ breakfast stall, the young couple wouldn’t have to worry about food and drink.

Yan Xingzhou was in excellent personal standing, a handsome height of over six feet, with thick eyebrows and big eyes, the type of good guy you can tell just by looking.

Plus, the Yan Family was a cadre’s family. Not to mention Old Master Yan, after being rehabilitated, his status was unreachable by the likes of the He Family, even if they stood on their toes.

Yan Xingzhou’s father was a military leader, and his mother was a cadre in a state-owned enterprise.

It could be said that if it weren’t for that old ”favor,” let alone a high school student like He Tiantian, even if she were a university student, she would not be matched to Yan Xingzhou.

But Liu Xiuzhi didn’t think so; she just thought her daughter was the best.

Having cunningly caught Yan Xingzhou in her trap, Liu Xiuzhi began to stir up trouble again.

Take the bride price, for instance. Liu Xiuzhi wasn’t interested in selling her daughter to supplement her son’s expenses; whatever goods she asked for was to be returned in full as He Tiantian’s dowry.

She just wanted to show the Yan Family that although they were rural folks, they valued their daughter.

It wasn’t that she saw her daughter, Tiantian, marrying Yan Xingzhou as clinging to a high branch.

”Exactly, our Tiantian is the best!” He Jianguo, as a seasoned henpecked husband, had been under his wife’s thumb for half his life and had long since learned his lesson.

Whatever his wife said, he would nod and agree, even if his wife was being unreasonable and threw tantrums; it was never his wife’s fault.

”Alright, then go see your old home again, and tell your Dad to discuss it with Old Master Yan!”

Liu Xiuzhi said all this just for that purpose.

He Jianguo’s real father was still alive, but Liu Xiuzhi, having grudges against her mother-in-law and gaining control over her husband, pushed for a ”house separation.”

The He Family had only one son, He Jianguo; they did have several daughters, but they were all married off.

In the rural areas of that era, they espoused the belief ”a married daughter is like spilled water”; even if the He Family were to separate, the daughters would not have a share.

Being the only daughter-in-law, Liu Xiuzhi’s so-called house separation was basically another way of kicking her in-laws out.

Grandpa He and Granny He, of course, did not agree, and the surrounding neighbors and relatives also gossiped about Liu Xiuzhi.

But Liu Xiuzhi didn’t care at all. If Granny He cried, she’d cry right back; if Granny He threatened to hang herself, Liu Xiuzhi would pour soybean curd brine right into her mouth.

That stuff, if drunk in excess, could be lethal.

Granny He’s tantrums were somewhat exaggerated and partly feigned.

Liu Xiuzhi, on the other hand, was truly playing for keeps; she’d drink the brine at the drop of a hat, without any pretense.

Not to mention that He Jianguo was frightened, even the evil old lady Granny He was stunned, and the surrounding neighbors didn’t dare speak another word.

The soft ones are afraid of the hard-hearted, and the hard-hearted are afraid of those who are desperate.

Granny He quickly, with her husband, left their son’s home and moved back into the dilapidated mud and straw huts they’d built years earlier.

It wasn’t that she feared Liu Xiuzhi would seek death again; she was afraid that this heartless woman would pour the brine into the rice pot.

Although Granny He wanted to live with her son and grandson, she wanted to live well even more.

Because of the excessive drama during the initial conflict, Granny He and Liu Xiuzhi were like wells and rivers – never crossing paths for the subsequent twenty years.

Not even coming together for meals during New Year or festivals, the most they’d do was for He Jianguo to take his sons and grandsons to secretly visit the old couple at the old home.

However, for the matter of He Tiantian’s marriage, Grandpa He had to get involved.

After all, it was he who had the ”favor” with Grandpa Yan; when the Yan Family agreed to take in He Tiantian, it was Grandpa He who, swallowing his pride, personally made the visit to the Yan Family.

The marriage was settled, but details like the bride price still required concessions from the Yan Family.

Although Liu Xiuzhi was shrewd, she was self-aware; she knew that her position as ”mother-in-law” meant nothing to the Yan Family.

To achieve her goals, she still needed Grandpa He to step in.

”...Alright, I, I’ll go to the old house in a bit!” He Jianguo hesitated.

But seeing his wife’s eyebrows about to arch up, he shrank his neck and quickly agreed.

Going to the old home, at most his parents would scold him for being a disappointment, being controlled by a woman, but such words he had long been accustomed to.
