The Female Lead Decides to Act Wickedly

Chapter 54: Chapter 054 I am the Evil Sister (Nine)

On that day, He Yi returned to Marquis Yongchang’s Mansion with mixed feelings in a carriage from Duke Mansion.

When Marquis and Marchioness Yongchang saw their daughter, their hearts skipped a beat: had Yiyi stirred up some trouble at Duke Mansion?

Why had she been sent back all of a sudden without any prior notice?!

Yet He Yi’s expression did not seem to indicate so. There were hints of grievance and confusion on her face, but not guilt.

However, in front of Duke Mansion’s steward, Marquis and Marchioness Yongchang refrained from asking questions.

After sending the steward away and watching the carriage from Duke Mansion leave, Marquis Yongchang’s wife took her daughter’s hand, ”What happened? Why did you suddenly come back?”

Marquis Yongchang thought further, asking, ”Is it because your sister’s condition isn’t good?”

But that couldn’t be right. If He Tian was failing, shouldn’t Duke Mansion have invited people from Marquis Yongchang’s Mansion instead of hastily sending He Yi back?

He Yi did not hide anything and told them everything about how He Tian had attempted to poison her.

”What?! She, how dare she!”

Marquis Yongchang’s wife was furious, almost spewing fire from her eyes, ”You are legitimate cousins! How could she treat you like that!”

So cruel, so outrageous!

Marquis Yongchang had every reason to be furious. He Tian was just a niece from another branch, whereas He Yi was the child she had borne and given birth to herself.

In the past, He Tian had been arrogant and bossy among her sisters as the legitimate eldest daughter of the princely heir.

Now the situation had changed, the nobility of the He family had fallen to their second branch.

He Tian was just a girl from the lord’s mansion, whereas He Yi was the legitimate eldest daughter. How audacious He Tian was to behave like that!

No wonder she wouldn’t live long, serve her right! With such malicious intentions, she deserved to die young!

As a man and He Tian’s uncle, Marquis Yongchang couldn’t scold like his wife, but he was very displeased too.

He Yi was his own daughter.

Between his niece and his daughter, Marquis Yongchang naturally cared more for the latter.

Besides, it was He Tian’s fault in this matter. Even if his dead brother were to spring from his coffin, he couldn’t justly side with He Tian against his conscience.

”No, I, I’m going to Duke Mansion to settle scores with He Tian!” Marquis Yongchang’s wife ranted but couldn’t suppress her rage.

As she cursed He Tian, she also blamed He Yi, ”You too, He Tian did you wrong, and you’re the victim. How could you let yourself be sent back by people from Duke Mansion meekly?”

”Duke Mansion too, though He Tian is a daughter of the He family, she’s married into Duke Mansion. Now that He Tian has made such a grave mistake, they, they didn’t show even a little decency?”

Marquis Yongchang’s wife grew angrier as she spoke, not even bothering to change her clothes or caring that it was already dark, she repeatedly instructed the servants to prepare the carriage.

Marquis Yongchang furrowed his brows, sensing that his wife was perhaps overreacting, but he did not stop her.

He thought it over: this was indeed He Tian’s fault, and even if Duke Mansion didn’t punish He Tian, they should compensate the He family, oh no, He Yi.

The couple, one demanding retribution, the other silently agreeing, left He Yi feeling flustered.

She quickly grabbed Marquis Yongchang’s wife’s hand, reluctantly saying, ”Mother, please don’t be hasty! My sister has already punished herself—”

He Yi slowly explained the punishment He Tian had inflicted on herself.

Marquis and Marchioness Yongchang were dumbfounded.

”No! That won’t do!” Marquis Yongchang was the first to react, ”Nonsense! What He Tian is doing is nonsense!”

How could she go three days without medical treatment?

He Tian was already on the verge of death; if she recklessly did this, she might not survive those three days.

”...Yes, indeed inappropriate!” Marquis Yongchang’s wife regained her senses and agreed repeatedly.

Actually, Marquis Yongchang’s wife had long hoped that He Tian would die soon.

Only then could her daughter become Duchess Wei.

But soon, Marquis Yongchang’s wife realized: even if He Tian were to die, she couldn’t just die like that.

If He Tian died because of ”self-punishment,” then He Yi would become the murderer who forced her legitimate cousin to death!

No, her Yiyi absolutely could not carry that kind of stigma.

Marquis Yongchang must have thought of this too, his expression growing extremely solemn.

”Quick, let us hurry to the Duke Mansion!”

Wife of Marquis Yongchang urged.

However, Marquis Yongchang pointed at the darkening sky outside, revealing a bitter smile, ”It’s too late!”

Only then did the Wife of Marquis Yongchang realize that the night had completely fallen.

The curfew had started!

If the Mansion of Marquis Yongchang were a powerful noble family, they wouldn’t need to worry much about a curfew.

But the problem was, the Mansion of Marquis Yongchang had already declined, and the Marquis didn’t even have the spirit or courage to defy the curfew.

”Then, then we can only wait till tomorrow,” the Wife of Marquis Yongchang gritted her teeth, praying earnestly for the first time since He Tian became seriously ill, hopeful that He Tian would survive unscathed.

Even if he were to die, he couldn’t die within these three days.

At night, the Wife of Marquis Yongchang muttered this sentence even in her dreams!

Barely enduring until the next day, as soon as dawn broke, the Wife of Marquis Yongchang urged Marquis Yongchang, ”My lord, let us hurry to the Duke Mansion.”

He Yi was a maiden, with thin skin and soft ears. A few harsh words from He Tian, and He Yi was easily pacified.

Marquis and Marchioness Yongchang were different, even if He Tian really decided to atone by cutting off his medicine, they could reprimand and stop him with the authority of elders.

”Good!” The matter concerned the riches and future of their Lord’s Mansion, and Marquis Yongchang promptly agreed.

But, they rushed anxiously to Duke’s Mansion and did not manage to meet ”He Tian.”

Grand Madam herself came out to greet them and politely stated, ”Lady He was restless for most of last night and has since fallen into a deep sleep. The Imperial Physician has instructed that she be allowed to rest well.”

Hearing that He Tian had already been treated by the Imperial Physician, the Wife of Marquis Yongchang breathed a sigh of relief, but soon felt annoyed: typical of He Tian, always playing tricks.

Hiding her resentment, her expression became somewhat unnatural.

Being experienced and shrewd, Grand Madam noticed and quickly guessed her thoughts.

She indifferently said, ”It’s a blessing in disguise in a way. Lady He felt she had wronged the Third Miss and thus punished herself by drinking the infertility soup and also stopping her supplements for that day!”

”Who would have thought that this action would actually match her true diagnosis...”

Speaking of these, Grand Madam felt somewhat emotional.

Lady He had made a mistake but was courageous enough to take responsibility and harsh enough to punish herself. It was a sign of repentance.

If she had died because of this, outsiders would sigh and also be secretly warned: one should never harbor thoughts of harming others, as karma is real.

But Lady He, by a fluke, found that her self-punishing method matched her hidden symptoms... This is also karma, serving as a powerful admonishment indeed.

”...” Wife of Marquis Yongchang was completely stunned.

What serendipity, what blessing in disguise?

Was Grand Madam saying that He Tian stopped her medication and punished herself with infertility soup, and that incidentally cured her illness?

”Yes, the toxins remaining in Lady He’s body have been expelled, and her bleeding has stopped. The Imperial Physician says that with proper care, she can slowly recover!” Grand Madam’s eyes twinkled, genuinely happy.

Her daughter-in-law was well, and her son no longer needed to remarry, thus her little grandson wouldn’t have to live under a stepmother.

Wife of Marquis Yongchang’s heart sank—

What?

He Tian is well?

She, she won’t die anymore?

What about Yiyi?

Though the He Family had not made it public, during this period, He Yi had been residing in the Duke Mansion.

Rumors were already circulating in the streets, many people aware of the calculations of the He Family.

Everyone was convinced He Yi was to be Duke Wei’s new wife, but now, at the last moment, He Tian was alive again!

How could He Yi face anyone now?

Could she, could she still marry into a good family?!
