The Female Lead Decides to Act Wickedly

Chapter 59: Chapter 059 I am the Evil Sister (Fourteen)

”He Tian’s” change in appearance didn’t startle those who were familiar with her.

Everyone merely thought it was an aftereffect of snake poison, or the ”last gleam of sunset”!

After all, even Master Hui Tong, the most renowned in Capital City for treating complex diseases, had said, ”Do your best and leave the rest to fate.” It seemed Duchess Wei probably wouldn’t make it this time.

Thus, when Nanny Seo and the other confidants saw He Tiantian, who had regained her original looks but was exceptionally frail, tears instantly burst forth.

”Wuu, madam, our poor madam!”

Nanny Seo stood by the couch, covering her mouth tightly, silently weeping.

Although their lady had endured the most dangerous ordeal, to think that merely offering incense at the temple could bring about another—another—

Could it be that their lady was fated for such a destiny?

That would be too unfair of God.

How good a person was their lady, and still so young, with a young son she couldn’t bear to part with. How could God have the heart to take her away?

Nanny Seo, being a confidant, of course, had come along to offer incense as well.

She had personally witnessed He Tiantian’s selfless act of saving Kang Mo.

To be honest, as He Tian’s closest person, Nanny Seo deep down did not approve of her lady’s actions.

The lady was wholeheartedly devoted to Lord Duke, but what was Lord Duke’s stance toward her again?

Nanny Seo didn’t actually think of Kang Mo as some sort of wife-idolizing maniac.

A few days ago, He Yi came to ”visit” He Tian, staying at Duke Mansion under the pretense of ”caring for her sister.”

Nanny Seo paid extra attention to He Yi’s every move.

She suddenly noticed that Lord Duke’s behavior toward He Yi seemed somewhat unusual.

It wasn’t that they had breached significant boundaries between men and women, doing something to wrong He Tian.

But, with her shrewd eyes and vast experience, Nanny Seo could tell that the relationship between Lord Duke and He Yi was definitely not just that of a brother-in-law and sister-in-law.

Of course, their relationship was never that simple.

Although not explicitly revealed, regarding He Yi becoming Kang Mo’s secondary wife, both Kang and He families were well aware.

Since they were already future spouses, it wasn’t unusual for Kang Mo and He Yi’s relationship to transcend the ordinary.

However, Nanny Seo was He Tian’s confidant, and she only considered matters from her lady’s perspective.

And from He Tian’s point of view, any slight peculiarity between Kang Mo and He Yi was a betrayal to He Tian.

Because no matter what, He Tian hadn’t passed away yet.

Even if they had feelings for each other, they should not have shown them so soon.

Unfortunately, Nanny Seo had detected that slight ambiguity.

However, to not upset her lady, Nanny Seo couldn’t expose this matter; she had to deliberately cover it up and speak well of it.

Whenever Kang Mo behaved slightly better, Nanny Seo would overly praise him, not for anything else but to make her lady happier.

But—but... Nanny Seo felt that her efforts to make the lady believe that Lord Duke was deeply loyal to her were not meant for the lady to recklessly risk her life to save Lord Duke.

”My foolish lady, do you really think men are loyal creatures?”

”Even if Lord Duke cherished your early marriage, the moment you close your eyes, he will still marry a young and beautiful secondary wife!”

”Better to live well and not just for yourself, but at least think of your young master!”

”How pitiful is a child without a mother? Don’t foolishly think you still have Lord Duke.”

”Hmph, with a stepmother comes a stepfather, and these words are not said lightly!”

These thoughts, though Nanny Seo dared not voice them, she often pondered them in her heart.

Especially seeing her lady on the brink of death, her injuries so severe yet still so beautiful—madam, might she possibly—might she—

Nanny Seo grew more and more uneasy, wishing she could guard the lady’s bedside all twelve Shichen Chinese Time hours a day.

People who were close and familiar with ”He Tian” and saw her restored appearance could only think of it as the ”last gleam of sunset,” not to mention others.

Grand Madam visited a few times and each time she saw He Tiantian’s frail but beautiful appearance, she couldn’t help but sigh.

And for those who were not familiar with ”He Tian,” such as noblewomen or members of official families who happened to come to Qingyun Temple to offer incense or enjoy the spring scenery and heard about the assassination event.

Many of them had connections with Duke Wei’s Mansion or Marquis Yongchang’s Mansion and hurried to visit her.

When they saw such a fragile and beautiful sick woman, pity naturally arose.

Many young noblewomen couldn’t help but sigh secretly, ”Ah, beauty is a curse! Lady He, with such beauty and so young yet in critical condition, truly pitiable.”

People love beautiful things.

A person suffering from a severe illness naturally evokes sympathy.

Add to that a beautiful face and the morale to sacrifice oneself to save another... my God, Duchess Wei was truly a respected and pitiable perfect woman!

Coincidentally, that afternoon, Marquis Yongchang, having received the news, hurriedly arrived with his wife and He Yi, the three of them rushing over frantically.

All the noblewomen stayed in the guest rooms of Qingyun Temple, and when someone saw He Yi, remembering the previous rumors, they couldn’t help but secretly compare her with ”He Tian.”

The noblewomen suddenly realized that besides being younger than He Tian, He Yi didn’t seem to have any particularly outstanding traits.

As for age, younger isn’t always better, He Yi at fifteen or sixteen, still seemed somewhat immature.

And ”He Tian”? Around twenty-one or twenty-two, the age when a woman is most delicate and radiant, like a blooming peony, beautiful and dignified.

He Yi, the successor of ”He Tian,” was at most like a budding jasmine, clean and fresh, but lacking in beauty and charm!

This was roughly the difference between a woman and a girl!

He Yi did not know that she had already been judged by the noblewomen; all she could think about was that her sister was on the verge of death again!

She just didn’t know if this was another ”cry wolf” situation.

He Yi couldn’t even tell herself whether she hoped her cousin would be healthy as usual or was indeed in mortal danger.

So many things had happened recently; He Yi had truly learned what ”fear of public opinion” means.

She already hated her cousin for being sinister and malicious, and after being ridiculed, scorned, and ostracized by everyone, she felt even more that her suffering was all because of ”He Tian.”

It was He Tian who initially suggested she be a concubine to her brother-in-law; it was He Tian who secretly drugged her, He Yi.

As a result, the issue of He Yi marrying into Duke Wei’s family became a buzz in the Capital City, and He Tian had recovered!

Was she, was she playing tricks on purpose?

Although He Yi knew this idea was absurd, she truly detested her cousin.

At noon, when she heard that her cousin had put herself in danger to save Kang Mo, He Yi’s first reaction was joy.

On the way to Qingyun Temple, He Yi kept praying in her heart: Let her die! Let He Tian pass away quickly!

Unfortunately, God did not hear He Yi’s inner voice; they arrived at Qingyun Temple without hearing any ”good news.”

With a gloomy face, He Yi approached the sickbed and saw a beautiful sick woman utterly different from the living skeleton she remembered, which set off alarm bells in her heart.

Women, especially, are particular about their appearance.

Especially since He Yi had always seen Duke Wei as her future husband, although she hadn’t realized it, deep down, she actually viewed her cousin as a romantic rival.

Suddenly seeing her rival no longer dry and ugly but instead very beautiful, He Yi instinctively felt uncomfortable.

She was jealous, she even felt a sense of crisis.

This version of He Tian, if she truly died, would mean her life was frozen at its most beautiful moment. Her deathly visage would also be deeply engraved in Kang Mo’s heart.

It’s already difficult enough for a living person to compete with a deceased one; if He Tian left with such beauty, then, then—

Perhaps it was a sense of crisis, or perhaps seeing again the possibility of marrying into a prestigious family, He Yi suddenly forgot to restrain and conceal herself.

While everyone was still at Qingyun Temple, He Yi very actively and eagerly sought opportunities to be alone with Kang Mo...
