The Female Lead Decides to Act Wickedly

Chapter 52: Chapter 052 I Am the Wicked Older Sister (Part 7)

”I, I’m sorry to my sister, I have to atone. Three days means three days!”

With her last breath, He Tiantian struggled to finish these words before her head tilted, and she fainted.

Student Xiao D was completely numb: ...Tiantian, you’re an old thespian with explosive acting skills!

Damn good at acting, and perfectly timed, too.

The exact moment Duke Wei and the Imperial Physician rushed into the bedroom, they heard every word.

The turmoil in Duke Wei’s heart goes without saying, even the Imperial Physician had a flash of inquiry and complexity in his eyes.

A wealthy family bears many grudges.

As someone who frequented the upper echelons of Capital City, the Imperial Physician had seen plenty of the dark secrets of the inner house.

Thus, even the few incoherent words from Duchess Wei allowed the well-informed and experienced Imperial Physician to conjure up scene after scene of intense house fights.

Hmm, there had been rumors before that Duchess Wei was critically ill and wished to have her younger cousin from her mother’s side take her place for her husband.

Could it be, due to this matter of succession, that Duchess Wei and her cousin had some kind of conflict?!

The Imperial Physician mused in secret without showing any expression on his face.

Glancing at Duke Wei and meeting his urgent and pleading gaze, the Imperial Physician quickly took several steps forward.

”Lord Duke has arrived!”

”Lord Duke! Lord Duke!!”

”Greetings to the Lord Duke!”

The group of midwives and maids, seeing Duke Wei enter, as if seeing a savior, all cried out in succession.

Nanny Seo rushed forward without bothering with formalities, her voice choked: ”Lord Duke, you have finally arrived, the lady, the lady—”

”I’ve seen it all, don’t panic, I have already summoned Imperial Doctor Yang!”

Duke Wei waved off Nanny Seo, then stepped aside and made a welcoming gesture to Imperial Doctor Yang, saying politely, ”Imperial Physician, please!”

Imperial Doctor Yang, having just witnessed He Tiantian’s fainting, did not dare to delay and took the pulse pillow, settling down in front of the bed, starting to take her pulse with bated breath.

However, his expression was stern, his brows deeply furrowed, as if faced with a difficult problem.

Duke Wei, Nanny Seo, and the maids all watched with their hearts in their throats: Could it be, the lady is in a bad way?!

Duke Wei’s lips quivered, wanting to ask something, yet fearing he might disturb the Imperial Physician, he forcibly held back.

Hiss!

Imperial Physician Yang sucked in breath reflexively. Duchess Wei’s pulse was not good at all.

Actually, without even taking the pulse, just seeing the large patch of blood stained on the bedding, Imperial Physician Yang knew that this Noble was in critical condition.

After pondering for a moment, Imperial Physician Yang hesitantly asked, ”The lady’s pulse—may I inquire if the lady had taken any blood-activating medicine before?”

When Duchess Wei had been gravely ill, almost every Imperial Physician from the Imperial Hospital had been called upon by Duke Wei.

Even Imperial Physician Yang had previously treated He Tian.

Thus, he remembered clearly that Duchess Wei suffered from a condition that led to both her qi and blood being deficient, necessitating nourishment for both.

Yet the current situation seemed to have taken a turn, with Duchess Wei not only bleeding profusely but also losing a large amount of blood.

Imperial Physician Yang suspected that the noblewoman might have ingested some blood-activating medicine.

Nanny Seo hesitated at Imperial Physician Yang’s question.

She stealthily glanced at Duke Wei—could she tell the truth?

Once the details of Duchess Wei drinking infertility soup, rich in Red Flowers, were revealed to the Imperial Physician, the secrets ardently concealed by Duke Mansion could possibly be exposed.

Imperial Physician Yang, who often dealt with the Royal Family and wealthy families, surely knew what to say and what not to say.

But a secret ceases to be a secret once a third person learns of it.

Sooner or later, rumors would leak out; by then, Duke Mansion would become the laugh of the town.

”Speak!” The face of Duke Mansion was indeed important, but more important was the life of his wife.

Duke Wei believed in Imperial Doctor Yang’s professional integrity.

Duke Wei opened his mouth, and Nanny Seo no longer hesitated, hastening to say, ”This afternoon, our lady drank infertility soup!”

”Just as I thought!” Imperial Doctor Yang sighed to himself, yet his face maintained a look of stern solemnity.

”Infertility soup? Even though I’m not familiar with the exact recipe, I do know that it should contain Red Flowers and other blood-activating herbs!” Imperial Doctor Yang deliberated his words carefully and spoke slowly.

The woman in charge of decocting the medicine squeezed forward, nodding repeatedly, ”Yes, Red Flowers, and also...”

She mentioned a few more herbs; some activated the blood, others were extremely cold in nature. Together, they formed a potent blood-activating clot-clearing concoction.

Imperial Doctor Yang dared not delay and quickly opened his acupuncture kit, hoping to stop the bleeding with acupuncture.

But just at that moment, He Tiantian, who was ”unconscious,” suddenly shook violently.

And the bedding below her was stained with a large patch again.

The room was filled with the pungent odor of blood, and Duke Wei’s heart sank!

Nanny Seo and a group of close attendants began to wipe away tears.

Imperial Doctor Yang was anxious inside, yet he managed to remain composed.

He suddenly noticed that after this tremor, Duchess Wei’s facial expression seemed to be less pained.

And her body gradually stopped convulsing.

A sudden insight flashed through Imperial Doctor Yang’s mind, and he forcefully recalled a case he had heard about during his travels with his master in his early years—

There was a woman who experienced incessant bleeding after a miscarriage.

The physician, following convention, prescribed her blood-tonifying herbs, but the more she was replenished, the worse her condition became.

Later, her family called for an experienced midwife, who conducted a thorough examination and indicated that there might still be a dead fetus inside the woman.

The physicians thought it was preposterous, but they still prescribed her a blood-activating clot-clearing concoction.

After several bowls of the medicine and assistance from the midwife, the woman indeed expelled a dead fetus.

It turned out she had been pregnant with twins, and during the miscarriage, only one was expelled while the other remained inside.

With a dead fetus within her body, it was natural for the woman to experience abdominal pain and continuous bleeding.

After expelling the dead fetus, they treated her again to stop the bleeding and replenish her blood, and the woman eventually was saved.

Imperial Doctor Yang’s eyes suddenly shone brightly; yes, Duchess Wei might not be like that woman carrying twins, but during her miscarriage, it was possible that not everything was expelled, and remnants like the placenta were left inside, so—

Imperial Doctor Yang pondered to himself.

But this was easy to verify.

He called over Nanny Seo and whispered a few words in her ear.

A look of astonishment flashed in Nanny Seo’s eyes, and she instinctively turned to look at Duke Wei.

Duke Wei, not understanding the reason, still nodded firmly, signaling Nanny Seo to follow Imperial Doctor Yang’s instructions.

Nanny Seo quickly agreed, ”Yes, yes, this old servant understands!”

After Imperial Doctor Yang gave his instructions, he joined Duke Wei in the outer room.

Nanny Seo ordered someone to bring a screen, then following Imperial Doctor Yang’s instructions, removed the lower garments of He Tiantian.

”Ah!”

Nanny Seo saw the bloodstain on the white nightgown and involuntarily exclaimed, ”What’s this? The afterbirth or—an unexpelled dead fetus?”

Nanny Seo suddenly felt Imperial Doctor Yang was truly miraculous, diagnosing all this without seeing with his own eyes, only relying on pulse reading.

In the outer room, when Imperial Doctor Yang heard Nanny Seo’s exclamation, he silently let out a breath: Good, I guessed right!

Suppressing the euphoria within, on the surface, Imperial Doctor Yang still adopted an expert’s demeanor and said indifferently, ”The esteemed lady was also lucky in misfortune, the ’accidental’ consumption of infertility soup unexpectedly triggered her hidden condition—”

Accidental correctness?

Duke Wei, however, did not think so. Instead, he felt that his wife braved the responsibility and, out of divine compassion, received a blessing!
