The Misfortune Adventure Of Dimensional Chat Group Owner

The next day, in the morning, Kaito’s apartment received a visitor. While Kaito and his friend (including Touma and Index) were having breakfast with bread and jam, their doorbell was ringing, indicating they had a guest in the morning.

With observation haki, Kaito and others recognize the guests should be Kanzaki Kaori and Stiyl Magnus, with an extra person added, who should be Touma’s close friend.

’That was fast... but I guess they directly asked the truth last night with their bishop since my words should be more convincing than Touma in the original plot, considering my current identity as rank 1 Esper’ Kaito thought silently.

*RING* *RING*

...!!!

”Can you open the door, Touma?” Kaito requested him politely.

Startled by Kaito’s request, Touma accidentally let go of the bread in his hand, ”Ah! My bread is falling to the floor! I just coat it with strawberry jam!”

””Pffft!”” (Aika/Manaka/Ravel)

”The floor got dirty... Touma-san, bad.” (Est)

”How careless are you, Touma?” (Index)

”I am sorry!. I will clean the floor right away!” Touma apologized, bowing his head to everyone.

”It’s okay. Your bad luck is pretty outrageous, Touma.” Kaito felt bad for Touma, thinking that it was his mistake to ask him in the first place, ”Sakuya, can you open the door and also clean the room later?”

At least compared to Touma, Kaito’s bad luck rarely happens these days, though when it happens, it gives him immense trouble, like how suddenly having bounty and getting hunted by most darkside groups in the city.

...

”Sure, Master,” Sakuya answered and then proceeded to open the door. When it opened, Sakuya immediately greeted the guest, ”Good morning, Kanzaki Kaori-san, Styl Magnus-san, and this... Tsuchimikado Motoharu-san?”

Sakuya, who also has watched the plot, naturally recognizes this man as one of Touma’s best friend who support him in many missions related to Academy City.

”Oh? It seems you guys already know me.” Tsuchimikado Motoharu, a guy with blonde hair, black sunglasses, and wearing a Hawaiian shirt, casually greeted Sakuya, stepped into the room, and saw his friend, ”Oh, Touma! You are also here!”

...!!!

Surprised to see his good friend, Touma, standing up from his chair, ”Tsuchimikado?! Why are you here? Do you know those magicians?!”

”I know~” Motoharu answered with confidence, ”In fact, I am here even as the representative from the Chairman of Academy City. A third party who was directly ordered to assist with the task.”

”Eh? So the Chairman knows what happened last night?”

”Of course, otherwise, why would I be here~?” Tsuchimikado teaased.

”That’s scary...” Touma expressed shock and didn’t expect that this Index problem was so important for the Academy City leader.

Even so, both Kaori and Styl were also surprised by the revelation, but last night, they also has learn from their archbishop how strong the Academy City was. The information they got made them never ever underestimate Academy City and Esper anymore.

...

”Obviously, Touma.” Noticing his visible confusion, Kaito gave him a side glance and explained, ”Everything that happens, that guy will know because he observes the whole city 24/7.”

”Really? But how?”

”I refuse to tell you that, but all you need to know is that I didn’t lie.” Kaito shrugged, ”I don’t think I can reveal his method to you due to my agreement with that guy, but I assure you he had no bad intention with it.”

”That’s right, Touma. We can’t tell you the information about Chairman~” Tsuchimikado also followed, ”Besides, it’s not really bad thing since you know how dangerous this city is.”

”I guess so...”

Although Touma isn’t smart, he’s also not stupid enough to realize the usefulness of such a surveillance system, helping of cracking criminal in the city... even that would mean there’s literally no privacy in the eyes of the Chairman.

*Sigh*

”Anyway, all of you... sit back down and enjoy the breakfast.” Kaito urged Touma and then turned at 3 new guests, ”It’s quite early, how about you three joining us for breakfast?”

”That’s a good suggestion.” Aika chirped in, ”I also want to befriend Kaori-san and perhaps exchange some techniques with her.”

”Is that so?” Kanzaki Kaori nods in appreciation, ”Then I will oblige.”

”Sakuya, please make extra for them.”

”Yes, master.”

Hearing Kaito’s invitation, the three of them politely accepted it and joined them for breakfast. Thankfully, they had enough ingredients in the kitchen for Sakuya to make more, although they could have asked Kaito to make the ingredients in the first place.

>>>>>

While having breakfast together, the relationship between the Kaito group and the magician became much more friendly. During breakfast, Tsuchimikado actively talks with Touma, with Kaito occasionally commenting from the side, Kaori, and Aika, who enthusiastically exchange their insight about their fight last night, and Styl talks with Manaka and Ravel about the difference in their magic system.

After breakfast was done, everyone sat together, and Kanzaki Kaori started talking about what she and Styl Magnus had discovered about last night’s investigation... which made them frustrated and angry.

Remember what Kaito told them about the truth. Kanzaki also called the archbishop directly, and to their surprise, Laura didn’t even attempt to hide and confessed to them about the Index situation.

Archbishop Laura Stuart directly admitted that what Kaito said to them was true; the church implanted a Collar and a multi-layered program that would disable Index from using the magic of grimoires; as such, Index cannot access her mana, and therefore, use magic normally.

To complete this multi-layered defense, the Collar made Index extremely ill and required an annual erasure of her memories.

All of this was done by the church to prevent the possibility of Index betraying them and to make the grimoires in her head difficult for other church factions to access and steal.

...

”Index-san, we are so sorry about our action toward you...” (Kanzaki Kaori)

”Me too. We are sorry if we made your life miserable...” (Styl Magnus)

”You two...” Index, who just learned about her real situation, feels conflicted and confused. The fact that the magician who was chasing her actually wanted to protect her, and even both of them were tricked by the church, made her feel loss.

These magician also seems to be her past partner, as she has feelings of goodwill against them despite having no memories related to them.

”I am forgiving you two... because you guys are also the victims. let’s be friends, okay.”

Both Styl and Kaori smiling nod together, and just like that, their misunderstanding conflict ended directly. Now the conflict was over, the two magician naturally wanted to solve the root of their conflict... which is the ’seal’ on the Index head.

...

”So, how do you plan to help Index, Mr. Kaito?” Styl turned to Kaito and asked him seriously.

”Please tell us if there’s anything we can do to help,” Kaori added, even slightly bowing her head to Kaito.

Like in the original, after knowing the truth, both Kaori and Styl were deeply disappointed with the Necessarius church and determined to help Index escape her terrible fate.

...

”Well... It’s weird for you to call me mister, but for us it’s not difficult to solve.” Kaito explained, turned to Aika, ”What do you think we should do?”

”That’s right.” Aika nodded but then asked the magician, ”But first, we wanted to know whether your archbishop is willing to let Index stay here.”

Hearing her question, Tsuchimikado, who had been quiet then, quickly responded casually, ”Ah, about that... don’t worry! Index-chan can stay! Our chairman seems to be touched by the Index story and decides to grant her protection to live well in the Academy City.”

””No way!”” (Kaito group thought silently together, aware that Aleister was doing this because of his plan)

”Tch... Fortunately, the Archbishop did agree to that because the Chairman negotiated some terms with her.” Styl added, albeit clearly unhappy with the situation, ”She will be representative of the Necesarius church in this city and stationed here.”

”Eh, isn’t that great?” Touma is genuinely happy hearing that, ”Would that mean Index won’t need to travel around anymore?”

”Also, the Chairman’s added condition also needs you to take care of the Index, Touma-nyan~.”

Hearing such a condition, none of the Kaito group were surprised because Touma was part of his core plan, and none of them wanted to disturb his plan. After all, they were now in a cooperative relationship... no need to anger Aleister for such a matter.

...

”Eh? But why not stay with Kaito? Isn’t it better for her to stay with Kaito and others? Their apartment is much bigger!” Touma complained.

”Indeed! I am afraid that I’d be starved to death!” Index also protested, fully aware how poor Touma’s apartment compared to the luxurious Kaito apartment.

”You guys don’t need to worry, just visit our apartment whenever you want, when you need help, like with dinner.” Aika promised casually, turned to Sakuya, ”That would not be a problem, right?”

”No problem.” Sakuya didn’t mind the slightest as she got used to cooking for more people.

”That’s amazing! Thank you!” Touma was delighted with such news, ”You guys are really helping!”

”I can play with Est whenever I want!” Index also reacted positively.

”Umm.” Est just nods, lets herself get embraced by Index. Anyway, even Est knows that her master and friend would come back to base soon, and then she wouldn’t need to ’suffer’ anymore.

Besides Index and Touma, everyone is also pretty happy with the situation; now, what’s left is to solve the Index problem.

...

”Now, we have confirmation from the Chairman and Necessarius Archbishop; let’s solve the Index problem right away.”

????

Hearing what Aika said, pretty much everyone except the Kaito group became serious, with Kanzaki Kaori take innitiative to ask, ”Is there anything we can help with for preparation?”

”Preparation? We don’t need one.” Aika answered, making them even more confused.

???

Aika smiled and then ordered Kaito with a pointed finger, ”Kaito! Thrust your right hand into Index’s mouth and dismantle that collar! Make sure you do it clean!”

”Eh?” (Index)

”What?” (Touma/Kaori/Motoharu/Styl)

????!!!???

Hearing such an order, Kaito became dumbfounded and complained, ”Can you phrase it a bit better?”

Obviously, Kaito understands that Aika wanted him to do the same action that Touma did in the original plot, except he also needs to make sure that Index won’t activate John Pen mode. Kaito also thinks Aleister won’t be happy if the Tree Diagram satellite floating above Academy City gets destroyed because of this situation, even if it’s not their fault.

”Wait, why does Kaito need to do so?” Touma bewildered.

”Because you know, his right hand also can nullify magic even better than you, Touma,” Aika explained.

””Nullify magic?!””

”In fact, not only magic but any supernatural element, but we are not here for that, right?” Manaka interjected, ”Let’s focus on helping Index first and we can talk about it later.”

”Also, please hold the index in place, we don’t want this apartment to get exploded,” Manaka added.

After that, Kaori and Sakuya volunteered to hold Index on each side while standing, while others watched from the side with anticipation. The scene looks weird if you didn’t know the context. The fact that Index is opening her mouth wide while Kaito puts his hand into her looks ambiguous.

”Here I come.”

”Mmm.” Index nodded obediently and nervously.

The moment Kaito puts his right hand deep enough, a glass-breaking sound can be heard. Kaito, at the moment, is also feeling an intense, stinging pain at this moment, and his whole body was sent flying back!!

*BOOM*

...!!!

”Kaito!/Master!/Darling!”

And as if it was part of the correction, Touma was also blown away to another room without reason... being a victim of his own bad luck as usual.

At the same time, Index, who remained in place, emitted a terrifying aura and floated up. Everyone naturally wants to hold her in place, but Index also released a wide area magic to keep them in place!

....!!!

“Warning. Chapter 3, Section 2. All Barriers from first to third confirmed as penetrated.” In the eyes of the group, she was no longer the lovable Index.

“To protect the 【Database】 of 103,000 grimoires, priority is given to intercepting intruders. Based on the information within the 103,000 grimoires in the 【Database】, reverse calculation of the magic Spell that penetrated the defensive wall... failed.”

The magic circle composed of red lines formed in Index’s eyes... intimidating everyone, even Manaka and Sakuya, in place from sheer magic aura.

?!?!?!

“To obtain the composition of the Spell, read specific magic for use against intruders. Successfully read and executed the most effective magic for countering a single intruder. Now commencing activation of the specific magic 【St. George’s Sanctuary】 to destroy the intruder.”

The red magic circle in her eyes enlarged and appeared beside Index, forming two overlapping magic circles over two meters in diameter in front of her. Then, centered near the point between Index’s eyebrows, cracks spread from the magic circles to every corner of space in all directions, like a wall.

...!!!

”I know, don’t worry!” Kaito gritted his teeth, trying his best to move his body but his whole soul just refused to cooperate. But Kaito didn’t feel hopeless, as he got another trump card to solve the situation directly.

’Requested to assist me to get close to Index and take action against her!’ Kaito asked the chat group system in his mind.

*DING*

’Damn that’s expensive!’

Seeing the dire situation, Kaito immediately got up and rushed with his right hand ready to stop Index at all costs, even consuming some chat group points in the process. Although the current Index gives him a dreadful feeling, Kaito knows he just needs to touch her once to finish it all!

Kaito wouldn’t let Index release Dragon King Breath at all; the world correction would let Touma get hit by ’memory erasure’ in the first place!

*Blink*

With his speed, teleportation, and system assurance, it only takes a moment for Kaito to get close to Index. Although St. George Sanctuary uses space manipulation as a defense method, nothing can’t be undone by Kaito’s right hand, Imagine Breaker, and system assistance!

*CRASH*

...!!!

Without hesitation, Kaito grabbed Index’s head with his Imagine Breaker and forcefully ended her contracted seal!

Warn—ing—, Final—Chap—ter, Sec—tion—Zero—, 【Collar】—fatal—destruction—, re—generation—im—possible—.”

Just like that,【St. George’s Sanctuary】 vanished immediately, and the red magic circles in Index’s eyes dissipated bit by bit as she collapsed to the ground.

There’s no explosion, no white feather floating around, just Index falls unconscious due to after effect of the event... if you ignore the Kaito apartment that has been ruined.

”Finally... Damn, it hurt... As expected of a half-magic god...”

Kaito, on the other hand actually in stinging pain and exhaustion... didn’t expect it to actually take a lot of effort for him to stop her.

””Index!”” (Styl/Kaori/Touma)

”Don’t overreact. She’s just fallen unconscious, not dead.” Aika complained, cleaning herself from debris, and then turned to Kaito, ”Good job, Darling.”

”I really underestimate Index. I forgot she could become a magic god with those books, so in a way, I just faced a half magic god and won.”

”Did it make you proud?” Aika teased.

”No. I’m just glad that I was able to survive!” Kaito expressed with a sigh of relief. Among all of the other experiences so far in the chat group, it was definitely the closest one when Kaito thought he was about to die, and he was glad to survive.

”Good job, Master.” Sakuya also smiled at him, stood up, and walked to the kitchen. ”Do you want a drink and food to make you relaxed?”

”Sure, bring the cola out. And clean our apartment too.”

”Alright.”

Sakuya and Kaori put Index on the sofa together, and then Sakuya walked to the kitchen to bring the cola out.

”...”

”Umm, that’s it?” Styl asked with concern, ”Is there any sequela after we free Index from the collar?”

”Nope...” Kaito nods nonchalantly, ”We already told you it’s not that hard to solve, as long as you solve the collar system at once.”

”It’s just... feels anticlimactic, I thought it would be very difficult,” Kaori commented.

”If you ask Touma to do it, he may make a mistake in the process, but that’s not happening with me,” Kaito said confidently, ”My status as the strongest Esper (fake) in the city isn’t for naught, you know.”

Kaito decisively ignored the fact that Index could kill him right there if he didn’t act fast enough. Kaito couldn’t imagine how strong the real Magic Gods are, considering half of it was enough to make them hopeless. Kaito even thought that Touma managed to do it in the original plot due to the help of the world itself (plot armor), otherwise no way Touma could even get close to her!

”Ugh... I don’t know why, but I feel that might happen, so I can’t complain.” Touma scratched his head, feeling confused, but then smiled after seeing the sleeping Index, ”Anyway, as long as the result is good, it’s alright.”

”That’s true.”

...

After that, to celebrate the success of the operation, Kaito decided to invite everyone to have lunch together outside (since their apartment needs to be fixed by Sakuya).

Now with the Index situation solved, Kaito and others were ready to go back; although not all Misaka sisters were recovered, getting half of them still a very good result.
