Chapter 1416: Chapter 38: Power and Speed

Rubble fell from the hole in the wall, as Buck was pierced through the heart by Su Xiao’s sword, yet he grinned through a mouthful of steel teeth.

Su Xiao gripped the handle of Dragon Slash with both hands, pushing the long knife downward, but his sword was firmly fixed in place. Competing in strength against this monster of a woodcutter, Buck, was not wise.

Buck’s double short axes formed a swastika shape, locking down Dragon Slash. Blood droplets sprayed from his chest. He exerted force with his feet, frowning, and twisted his body with the intent to break the sword inside him.

”Hmph...”

Buck grunted; he still had his back to Su Xiao. The legendary quality, enhanced to +13 Dragon Slash could not be broken by Buck’s strength alone.

Buck was indeed ruthless; after being pierced through the heart, his thought wasn’t to escape quickly but to find a way to break his enemy’s weapon.

A wailing sound came from behind Buck. Though he couldn’t see what was happening behind him, he shifted the two short axes in his hands and released Dragon Slash.

The Spirit of Wood clung to Su Xiao’s calf, his body low as he kicked sideways at Buck’s spine.

Su Xiao’s leg became a black afterimage, kicking directly onto Buck’s spine.

Dong!

The impact spread around, large wooden furniture disassembled, and leather sofas were torn open by the forceful wind.

When Su Xiao’s right shin hit Buck’s spine, he heard a clear cracking sound. Buck’s body arched back into a C-shape, and with a whoosh, flew forward.

The instant before being kicked away, Buck released the short axe in his left hand, his large hand reaching for the wooden board that was launched into the air by the impact.

With a loud boom, smoke and dust rose. Buck crashed into the wall, a huge hole appeared, followed by a dull thud against metal.

Buck crashed directly through the wall, hitting the patterned steel panel on the outer layer of St. Limen Fortress, uncertain if he was dead or alive.

Deep within the wall’s large hole, a dent appeared on the patterned steel plate, surrounded by splattered blood.

Crack, crack...

After a sound of chewing, a ragged figure stood up and walked out from the hole in the wall.

When Buck reappeared, his neck was bent backward unnaturally, blood gushed from the wound on his chest. He raised his hand to support his back of his head, applying force.

With a chilling sound of bones rubbing, Buck straightened his head, his entire body starting to twist erratically.

Crack, crack...

Vertebra by vertebra relocated, Buck pressed one nostril with his thumb and exhaled forcefully, a stream of blood spouting from the other nostril.

”Peh.”

Spitting out bits of wood chips from his mouth, the wound on Buck’s chest stopped bleeding.

Su Xiao moved his somewhat numb right leg, stomping down. The short axe on the ground flipped up, and with a slash of the long knife, the wooden handle of the short axe was chopped into three pieces; it was an extremely hard wood.

Su Xiao leapt half a meter high, kicked his left foot forward, sending the axehead without a handle flying.

The axehead whistled out of the room, ultimately penetrating a distant wooden door, its destination unknown. If there’s a chance, of course you must destroy the enemy’s weapon at the first opportunity. Even if it can’t be completely destroyed, it should be thrown to a place where the enemy can’t retrieve it immediately.

Buck glanced at the broken axe handle on the ground and quickly charged toward the desk not far away. There were two short axes under the desk, prepared by the Divine Envoy, Du Bo · Yi Si, for emergencies, and unexpectedly they were needed today.

Buck’s relationship with Divine Envoy Du Bo · Yi Si was very special. They were neither superior and subordinate nor master and servant. In his youth, Buck was a soldier of the Sun Kingdom, in a troop similar to the Slaughter Troop.

Due to years of slaughter, Buck grew weary. After leaving his troop, he was settled in a remote forest, spending his days chopping wood to pass the time. Although it was boring, it was somewhat fulfilling.

But the good times didn’t last. One morning, Buck awoke to find blood on his clothes and three human heads lined up on his table. He couldn’t suppress his urge to kill, or rather, he had become addicted to killing.

A series of murders happened around the mountains. Of course, the Sun Kingdom’s Divine Court wouldn’t ignore it. In that forest, 1259 soldiers were killed or injured. After 29 days, the Divine Court captured Buck. The reason for his capture was bizarre; food without salt tastes terrible.

That’s right, Buck voluntarily got caught. His original unit didn’t even dispatch anyone. According to his officer, no one could capture Buck in the forest unless that mountain range was blown up.

Buck was tired, so he wanted to die. After 57 death row inmates died in the prison holding Buck and more than 100 sets of heavy shackles were destroyed, Buck’s execution date was moved up by two weeks.

Just when Buck was ready to face death, someone approached him and spoke with him for a long time. The next day, a ’Buck’ with his tongue cut out and eyes blinded was executed.

A month later, there was an additional burly man by the side of Divine Envoy Du Bo · Yi Si. This brawny man was messy, often drinking beer and smoking cigars at the same time. Strangely, the very smoke-averse Du Bo · Yi Si never chased Buck out of his office.

Du Bo · Yi Si ate whatever Buck ate. Compared to the elegant Du Bo · Yi Si, Buck’s manners were horrible. Someone once joked to Du Bo · Yi Si that he probably didn’t even spend as much time with his wife as he did with this shabby man. Du Bo · Yi Si laughed it off. Outsiders didn’t know that Buck had saved Du Bo · Yi Si nine times.

Crash!

Buck kicked the desk to pieces, wooden fragments flying as two short-handled axes spun in the air.

Zzz...

Metal wires popped out, threading through the wood fragments, wrapping around the two short-handled axes. However, Buck’s hand was faster.

Just as Buck’s fingertips touched the axe handle, he suddenly tilted his head.

Boom!

An explosion happened in front of Buck, the result of a Boundary Line spike piercing an Alchemy Bomb.

As soon as Buck stopped, Su Xiao had already charged forward.

Clang, clang, clang...

Lines of white appeared in mid-air, shredding the wood fragments further.

Buck, with scorch marks on his beard, snatched with one hand, grabbing a short axe before jumping back quickly.

With a crisp clatter, the wooden handle of the short axe in Buck’s hand broke inch by inch, the axe head falling to the ground. Yet Buck didn’t mind at all. He stepped on the ground, bouncing the axe head up, and took a bite out of it.

Buck reached behind his waist, to pull out an axe handle surprisingly lodged there. Who knows how much he loves axes?

The wooden handle slid into the axe head’s slot, Buck grabbed it, and smashed the end of the handle against the wall beside him, firmly connecting the axe head to the wooden handle.

Bang!

The wall cracked widely, a precious oil painting falling down as Buck flipped out the two short axes in his hand.

”Heh.”

Buck grinned at Su Xiao, genuinely pleased that he got the upper hand in their fight.

Su Xiao slashed with his long knife, leaving a cutmark on the ground beside him.

”Hahaha.”

Buck laughed more joyfully, like a two-hundred-pound child who could instantly chop someone into minced meat.

The battle began, neither side said much, both charging straight at each other.

Clashes of metal resounded continuously; Buck had formidable strength, while Su Xiao’s speed was unmatched, often leaving a bloody mark on Buck.

Don’t think Su Xiao’s strength is weak. It’s just that compared to the monster-strength woodcutter, Buck, Su Xiao’s strength was relatively weaker. The room, as if rolled over by dozens of tanks, showcased their destructive power. If it weren’t for the outer layer of patterned steel, they would have breached the fortress long ago.
