Chapter 1401: Chapter 23: Battlefield

The whistling sound pierced the night sky as a shell rotated slowly in the air, eventually landing on the edge of a trench.

Boom!

The firelight dispelled the darkness a bit, and earth splattered at the impact point, scattering against a scorched tree trunk, which had been burned countless times and was now riddled.

Just the dirt blasted by the shell had the power comparable to a shotgun, so the damage at the explosion’s center can be imagined.

The orange-yellow firelight gradually dissipated, and the air was filled with a faint burnt smell, characteristic of white gunpowder burning. Unknown who the genius was that concocted this ’white phosphorus oleic acid gunpowder,’ whose kinetic energy is hundreds of times stronger than ordinary gunpowder. Initially intended to provide humans with energy, it ended up being used for war.

Guns made from white gunpowder and patterned steel could penetrate almost anything, ordinary steel was like paper, and only patterned steel and Lomis crystal could provide defense.

gram of Lomis crystal is worth 15 million Rangke, so it is destined not to be used for war.

In the trenches under the night, Su Xiao brushed the dirt off his head. By his estimation, if a white gunpowder shell lands within 3 meters of him, even if he doesn’t die, he’ll be seriously injured.

The shell is filled with compressed white gunpowder, whose instant explosive power is even stronger than Apollo.

Not only Su Xiao, but all contractors in this world also dared not resist white gunpowder shells directly. There was once a heavy armored tank that accidentally took a shell hit; his teammates had to gather him up, as he was blasted to pieces.

Contractors in the Cold Weapon Battlefield could dominate, but in this fourth-tier hot weapon battlefield, anyone with a sane mind would not easily jump out of the trench.

Regarding Su Xiao’s survival ability, he could withstand 8 to 10 shots at most, but it would be ominous if it was machine gun fire.

The physical quality of humans in this world is not too strong. Well-trained ordinary soldiers have power, agility, and physical attributes around 30 to 40 points, while civilians are about 10 points, with some attributes around 8 points.

This is so for the Geya Alliance soldiers and similar for ordinary soldiers of the Sun Kingdom, with few divine envoys excelling in close combat.

In this environment, the world is classified as a fourth-tier high-intensity battlefield, and the gun’s power is evident. A round of small-scale concentrated fire, and no contractor could withstand it.

In other words, all soldiers on the battlefield have fourth-tier contractor attack power once they wield white gunpowder and patterned steel guns, although their speed and survival are relatively weak.

If a third-tier contractor encountered such soldiers, after opening the distance in a 1V1, just one hit would basically end the battle.

Su Xiao had long realized this, so his chances of dying on the battlefield are not low. This sense of oppression and crisis speeds up his blood flow, making his limbs more agile.

Su Xiao leaned in the front side of the trench, pushing aside a soldier whose head was smashed by a stone. This poor guy was unlucky; after a shell blasted the dirt, a soybean-sized stone penetrated through the patterned steel seam, directly giving him a headshot.

The soil, stone, and even tree bark, everything blasted by shells are murder weapons—the reality of Sea Blue Star. Now, Su Xiao is in the Lanchuan Battlefield.

The Lanchuan Battlefield lies on the border between the Geya Alliance and the Sun King, two nations continuously expanding but leaving the Lanchuan Battlefield intentionally as a buffer for war.

The two nations are not fighting for justice or noble causes; the war’s sole purpose is resources.

Blue Sea Star cannot nurture the two nations for long, and before resources are utterly exhausted, a war between them is inevitable; now is such a war. The loser will rapidly decline and become a small country or be directly destroyed.

The smell of blood mixed with earth wafted inside the trench. It was now 11 p.m., and Su Xiao’s twelve regiment was currently engaged with the Sun Kingdom’s tank division.

From Su Xiao’s observation, there was an enemy trench 700 meters away; this was already the frontline. Behind Su Xiao was the Geya Alliance forces, while ahead was the Sun Kingdom’s army.

The exact identity of the enemy forces was temporarily unknown, only that they were a tank division.

Of course, one regiment from the Geya Alliance cannot contend against a Sun Kingdom division. The enemy’s tank division stretched horizontally, engaging multiple units of the Geya Alliance simultaneously.

Inside the trench, Su Xiao loaded bullets into the Mr. 24 sniper rifle, while other soldiers from the Slaughter Troop dispersed, ready to find opportunities to infiltrate the enemy’s rear. As a sniper, Su Xiao wouldn’t infiltrate now; he must first cover others.

Saint and Da Di have already taken advantage of the night to slip past; their survival status is unknown now. Currently, Su Xiao needs to cover three people as they enter the forest 300 meters off the trench’s diagonal; once inside, they’ll find their own way to infiltrate the enemy.

Hissss~

The radio on Little Assistant’s back emitted a signal interference sound, prompting her to pick up the receiver quickly.

”This is White Ghost, can you hear me?”

Little Assistant’s voice was very clear; she was not tall, only about 1.5 meters, dressed in a black military uniform, short-haired, and had some dirt on her fair face.

If not for Little Assistant’s pretty face and her mysteriously bulging chest, Su Xiao wouldn’t have been able to tell whether she was male or female in the dark. When they first met, Su Xiao’s initial impression was: Can a man be so beautiful?

It wasn’t a problem with Su Xiao’s vision; Little Assistant’s brown short hair coupled with her somewhat androgynous style made it easy for anyone to mistake her for a boy. But when she stood upright and saluted, Su Xiao realized she was a woman.

With Su Xiao’s refusal, Skardine ’enthusiastically’ allocated Little Assistant to him. It’s said she’s the most excellent spotter in the twelfth regiment, though she tended to jinx her partners. She had cooperated with 27 snipers, yet the grass on their graves was three feet high now.

Because of this, Little Assistant fell into depression. After a ’commanding officer’s beating’ from her leader, breaking two ribs and an arm fracture, her depression was cured, reverting to a lively girl capable of killing a four-meter-tall brown bear barehanded.

Upon receiving the task to assist Slaughter Troop’s White Ghost, Little Assistant cheered. If the Slaughter Troop consists of fighters hand-picked from afar, then White Ghost is the most excellent sniper among them, on par with Ning Ke from the First Army, a member of the Assassination Squad.

Thus came the scene in the trench, with Little Assistant full of excitement, seemingly eager to seize Su Xiao’s sniper rifle and fire a couple of rounds for the thrill.

”I can hear you, this is Saint. Da Di and I have successfully infiltrated.”

Saint’s voice came through the radio, and Su Xiao took the receiver from Little Assistant.

”Scout Dog and Blind Mountain should enter the forest in ten minutes at most.”

”Understood, in nine minutes, we’ll try to stir chaos, giving you the chance to cover those two.

Su Xiao didn’t reply, pulling the bolt as he leaned out of the trench.

Bang, bang, bang.

After three shots, the opposite trench fell silent for a moment, three machine gunners having been headshot.

”Nice!”

”Shut up.”

”Okay~”

Little Assistant’s head poked out from the trench, starting to observe the nearby enemy positions.

”South direction, 169 degrees, 710 meters, wind speed 3.1...”

Before Little Assistant finished speaking, the enemy bending forward had already been headshot by Su Xiao.
