Chapter 1413: Chapter 35: The Proper Way to Use the Core of Devour

After the Demon Blade Phantom swallowed the head of the white light phantom in one bite, the entire deep blue phantom began to twist, forming a vortex, and eventually disappeared.

Su Xiao, with half of his body emanating blue smoke, immediately noticed this scene. He closed his eyes to perceive. In the past, whenever he activated the Core of Devour to absorb bioenergy, the Demon Blade Phantom would always appear.

The Demon Blade Phantom is not some ’external evil invasion’. When Su Xiao generated the Core of Devour within his body, the Demon Blade Phantom appeared simultaneously, seemingly having a symbiotic relationship with it.

Whenever Su Xiao uses the Core of Devour, the Demon Blade Phantom attempts to rush into Su Xiao’s body. In principle, the Demon Blade Phantom is merely a surge of energy that is also attracted by the Core of Devour. If Su Xiao does not use the Core of Devour, the Demon Blade Phantom would not invade Su Xiao’s body at all.

Thus, it is the Core of Devour actively attracting the Demon Blade Phantom, rather than the Demon Blade Phantom having subjective consciousness, aiming to seize Su Xiao’s body. In fact, even if the Demon Blade Phantom floods into Su Xiao’s body, at most Su Xiao would lose his reason, and his consciousness would fall into a long slumber, with the possibility of awakening being unknown.

This is precisely why the Void Race fears the Demon Blade. The Demon Blade acts without consciousness, without distinguishing friend from foe, good from evil, and its actions are largely determined by the original character of the Shadow of Annihilation Law.

Take Su Xiao, for instance. If the Demon Blade Phantom suppressed him, he would not only be an extremely dangerous presence but also a threat capable of annihilating the world he resides in.

Although the Void Race dreads the Demon Blade, no one bands together to besiege it because it is not worthwhile. Not to mention that the insane Demon Blade is monstrously strong; even if they managed to besiege and kill that Demon Blade, what would the Void Race gain? Spellcasters have confirmed that the subjective consciousness of the Demon Blade is dead, that is, the consciousness of the Shadow of Annihilation within the Demon Blade has dissipated.

Su Xiao once inquired about the Demon Blade Phantom from Marvin Hwaltz. Marvin Hwaltz’s response was intriguing: ”The Spirit of the Blade Demon is not dangerous if you are strong enough—it is one of your abilities, a very important one.”

For this reason, Su Xiao greatly changed his impression of the Demon Blade Phantom. He had known before that this thing was merely an unknown energy, and after Marvin Hwaltz’s confirmation, he already more or less understood what it was.

To suppress the Demon Blade Phantom, having a heart of steel is not necessary. Even having a ’Steel Heart’ would not prevent the invasion of the Demon Blade Phantom.

The only way to prevent the Demon Blade from invading the body is through Blue Steel Shadow Energy. As long as the Blue Steel Shadow Energy is stronger than the Demon Blade Phantom, this energy will not harm Su Xiao, provided that he does not overuse the Core of Devour.

Now that the Demon Blade Phantom suddenly disappeared, Su Xiao’s expression was not very good. He had already perceived the location of the Demon Blade Phantom—it was inside the Core of Devour, condensed into a point of black and blue energy, with a tendency to gradually expand.

Obviously, the Demon Blade Phantom improved after devouring the white light phantom. If its enhancement exceeded the strength of the Blue Steel Shadow Ability, the energy would directly flood into Su Xiao’s body. Should that situation occur, Su Xiao’s consciousness would become groggy, equating to death amidst the perils of Reincarnation Paradise.

If Su Xiao were to transform into the Demon Blade, he would not heed the tasks released by Reincarnation Paradise, and death would be certain by then.

After Su Xiao closed his eyes to sense the strength of the Demon Blade Energy within his body, he raised an eyebrow as the energy’s baseline seemed rather lacking.

The purity of the Demon Blade Energy is daunting, surpassing Blue Steel Shadow Energy by dozens of times, though in terms of total energy...

According to Su Xiao’s estimates, even if the Demon Blade Energy completed its enhancement, Blue Steel Shadow Energy above Level 35 would be enough to suppress this energy.

Currently, Su Xiao’s Blue Steel Shadow Ability is at Level 40, capable of pounding the Demon Blade Energy into the Core of Devour, or rather, without the Core of Devour for protection, over time, Blue Steel Shadow Energy could potentially annihilate this energy.

The current situation is not critical, but Su Xiao does not dare to relax due to a very simple reason. Previously, Blue Steel Shadow Ability around Level 20 was sufficient to suppress the Demon Blade Energy. However, after the Demon Blade Energy devoured the head of the white light phantom, the baseline energy increased significantly, requiring Blue Steel Shadow Ability around Level 35 to suppress it.

If the Demon Blade Energy devoured life energy once more, the current level of Blue Steel Shadow Ability would be unable to suppress the Demon Blade Energy, which would essentially announce death.

Su Xiao did not know what kind of evil wind the Demon Blade Energy had caught today to actively bite off the enemy’s head.

Within the fifth layer of the fortress, blue smoke enveloped the white light phantom. The blue smoke twisted, and a large amount of energy surged into Su Xiao’s left arm, then into the Core of Devour at his chest, where it was converted, refined, purified, and filtered into an attributeless, colorless energy consumed by Blue Steel Shadow Energy.

The Blue Steel Shadow Energy quickly grew, and the blue smoke in Su Xiao’s hand intensified.

Hoo～

Blue smoke surged over Su Xiao’s body as if discovering something interesting, suddenly covering his whole body in blue smoke resembling burning flames.

This was Su Xiao’s first time enveloping his entire body with blue smoke. The scene in his sight changed drastically, with the surrounding world turning black and white. Not far away, there were four red energy masses, each the size of a fist. These red energies seemed tainted, as if they often mixed with some kind of high-level energy.

Instinctively, Su Xiao felt repulsion toward these four energies, finding them disgusting and inedible.

As Su Xiao’s gaze shifted, a puff of pink energy floated beside him. This energy looked sweet but was also inedible, as reason told Su Xiao not to devour it since it was of a similar type of energy as his own.

This pink energy was actually his assistant, who stood upright in place, gulping nervously as cold sweat flowed down her temple. Just a few seconds ago, her officer was enveloped by a kind of blue smoke, his eyes turned blood-red, and the drifting blue smoke on his surface seemed like burning demon flames.

”Se...Sir?”

Her legs trembling, the assistant could suppress her inner fear, but her instinct was telling her to flee quickly!

”Hmm?”

Su Xiao was very conscious at that moment or, one might say, he had never observed the world so clearly.

”Hoo～I thought you had undergone a genetic mutation.”

”...”

Su Xiao lifted his right arm. The reason he was completely enveloped in blue smoke was that he had fully activated the Core of Devour Ability. In the past, he only activated the Core of Devour to 15%~20%, but now, he had fully activated it. The reason for his daring was simple: the Demon Blade Phantom was in a ’hibernation’ state, and the vigor of that energy greatly reduced.

Su Xiao had not known until now that the Core of Devour could be used this way. He saw many things, such as an extremely powerful life energy within a room at the deepest part of the fifth layer, guarding something without taking the initiative to attack.

Moreover, he also saw things within the Anomalous Space. Although he could not enter, he saw a large mass of golden energy within, like ice cream on a scorching summer day, tempting one to take a big bite.
