Chapter 1404: Chapter 26: Sudden Upheaval

Lanchuan Battlefield, Gwafe Canyon.

Bullets whizzed by, stones shattered and flew.

”What is going on here!”

The little assistant lay in a stone pit, while Su Xiao checked the map beside him.

The heavy machine gun fire lasted for at least five minutes, and the sound of artillery shells was continuous.

”Why are our troops firing here?”

The little assistant just tried to peek out from the stone pit when a few bullets whizzed past.

Not only was the little assistant puzzled, Su Xiao was equally confused. He had infiltrated several kilometers into enemy lines and successfully mixed into a scattered Sun Kingdom troop.

This troop was retreating towards the Sun Kingdom rear. As long as he followed them, it wouldn’t be too hard to penetrate the Sun Kingdom headquarters.

However, at 10 a.m., this troop in the Sun Kingdom’s battle zone was intercepted by Geya Alliance forces.

This was a very incredible matter. A large force of the Geya Alliance coming here would mean total annihilation if discovered by the Sun Kingdom’s forces.

Under the fierce firepower from their own side, Su Xiao had no choice but to temporarily hide in the stone pit, while the patterned steel plate in front was riddled with holes.

Even stranger was that the troop Su Xiao had infiltrated seemed to lack war intent. They’ve tried to retreat several times, but given the canyon terrain, withdrawal was difficult.

”Contact Captain Skardine.”

Su Xiao reinforced the patterned steel in front of him. He didn’t want to die from his own side’s gunfire.

The little assistant hugged the radio tightly, banged on it a few times until the green light came on. Her way of handling it was unique; even if the enemy seized it, they couldn’t use it.

Through the little assistant’s contact, Su Xiao learned crucial intel that the Sun Kingdom’s frontline forces had suffered a massive defeat, with nearly two Mechanics completely annihilated, and the remaining active Sun Kingdom troops on the frontline rapidly collapsing.

From midnight last night until now, the Geya Alliance’s vanguard had advanced four kilometers forward.

The High President of the Geya Alliance was somewhat stupefied upon receiving this news in the early morning. The war had been going on for so long, why had they pushed back the Sun Kingdom in just six hours?

Skardine was equally bewildered. Most of the Slaughter Troop members he sent out had just infiltrated the enemy camp when they unexpectedly reunited smoothly with the forces coming from their own side.

By 8 a.m., different news outlets of the Geya Alliance began reporting: the Sun Kingdom had suffered a complete rout, and the Geya Alliance had annihilated 600,000 enemies.

The 600,000 figure was obviously exaggerated, but with two Mechanics wiped out, one could imagine the severe casualties suffered by the Sun Kingdom.

Su Xiao couldn’t figure out why this had happened. Previously, both sides were evenly matched; how could the Sun Kingdom unravel overnight?

There were only two possibilities for this situation: either the Sun Kingdom’s economic system was in trouble, or its power structure had issues.

In reality, both the Sun Kingdom’s economic and power systems had problems. The economic issues were not too big, as it was a colossal entity. The main cause for the battlefield’s one-sided collapse was the power structure problem. The credit for this goes to the Angry River Adventure Group.

Since the War World began, the leader of the Angry River Adventure Group had not shown himself. It wasn’t because he didn’t want to, but rather, he took a female Contractor undercover deep into the Sun Kingdom’s territory. It was the leader of Angry River Adventure Group, Qing Ye, who caused the downfall of the Sun Kingdom’s power system.

How Qing Ye achieved this is still unknown, but the only known intelligence is that he used a Charm Specialized female Contractor to accomplish this.

The style of Angry River Adventure Group is entirely different from Divine Emperor and Blood Gate. If there was a ranking of cunning old foxes in the Fourth Tier, Qing Ye would be second, and no one would dare claim first. Angry River Adventure Group wasn’t originally a large adventure group. The former leader was a brute who was later killed by Qing Ye. After Qing Ye’s rise to power, Angry River Adventure Group grew rapidly, threatening Divine Emperor and Blood Gate.

Through the little assistant’s contact, Su Xiao learned an even more explosive piece of news: the Great Envoy, who controlled the military power of the Sun Kingdom, shot himself this morning at 9 a.m.

The sudden suicide of the highest military commander was a thunderous blow to the Sun Kingdom. Although this Great Envoy wasn’t very combat-effective, his commanding ability was irreplaceable. Though many could fight in the Sun Kingdom, only this Great Envoy could control the Divine Envoys.

The sudden demise of the commander caused turmoil among the Sun Kingdom’s military leadership. Before the war, there was already a Peacemaker Faction within the Sun Kingdom’s military, advocating for peace talks with the Geya Alliance to consolidate enough resources to sustain two major powers by reducing surrounding small countries.

Everyone knew a battle between the two great nations was inevitable, but some priests didn’t want a war to break out during their tenure, and the situation was similar in the Geya Alliance.

The High President of the Geya Alliance and the Great Envoy of the Sun Kingdom forced the war to proceed against opposition, and now, with the Great Envoy’s mysterious suicide, unstable elements in the Sun Kingdom erupted. The Divine Envoys, who held high positions, were at odds, inter-party infighting and power faction conflicts fully erupted, while the Royal Family could do nothing but watch due to their non-intervention in military power.

The generals in the Sun Kingdom knew it was not the time for internal strife, but given the current situation, continuing the war with the Geya Alliance was unwise. The best option was to pull back the troops, reinforce the borders, and resolve internal issues to avoid a power split. At the very least, selecting a new Great Envoy was necessary. If given two days, they could select a new Great Envoy from the candidates. Whether this person could control everyone would be irrelevant; the key was for someone to step out and maintain authority.

Even though the momentum of the Geya Alliance was relentless, breaking through the Sun Kingdom’s defenses wasn’t something that could be done in a short period.

The Contractors of Holy Sanctuary Paradise, who were attached to the Sun Kingdom, were dumbfounded upon learning of the Great Envoy’s suicide.

Of course, the Holy Sanctuary Paradise faction figured out who was responsible, but they were still incredulous. According to the intelligence provided by Apocalypse Paradise Contractors, weren’t the people from Reincarnation Paradise supposed to be brutes and maniacs? How could they have killed the highest military commander of their camp after just a few days in the War World? Is this something brutes and maniacs could achieve?

Ignoring the bewildered Holy Sanctuary Paradise faction, and turning a blind eye to the Apocalypse Paradise faction, who were watching from the sidelines, the Geya Alliance and Reincarnation Paradise Contractors were now grandly advancing towards the Sun Kingdom.

If the Sun Kingdom fell, the Contractors of Holy Sanctuary Paradise within it would be in trouble. In a toppled nest, could any eggs remain unbroken?

If they genuinely managed to breach the Sun Kingdom, things would be blown out of proportion. Once that happened, the final Contractor chaos might not even see the shadow of the Holy Sanctuary Paradise faction.
