Chapter 1406: Chapter 28: The Assault

The Lanchuan Battlefield separates the Geya Alliance from the Sun Kingdom, with the two major countries approximately 30 kilometers apart, which is the vertical width of the Lanchuan Battlefield.

Fighter jets roar overhead, the Geya Alliance clearly doesn’t want to miss the chance to kick someone when they’re down.

The company Su Xiao is in quickly blends into a larger unit, this unit is a division of the First Army, roughly 13,000 people. During wartime, this is common, both sides confirm identities and directly converge into one.

In the cab of a truck, Su Xiao holds a tablet computer, strategizing on that insanely difficult game of decryption, the assistant driving occasionally glances over.

”If you crash into a tree, you will hang from it overnight.”

”Hoho～”

The assistant steps hard on the gas, the truck picks up speed.

”Sir, does the mission continue?”

”Of course, after reaching the Sun Kingdom border, find a chance to sneak across.”

”Huh?”

The assistant looks dumbstruck, infiltrating an enemy nation with a heavily guarded border seems impossible no matter how you look at it.

The journey is relatively smooth, with no enemy intercepts, around 5 PM Su Xiao arrives near the Sun Kingdom border.

Just arriving near the border, Su Xiao hears continuous artillery fire; the Sun Kingdom troops obviously won’t keep retreating after arriving at the border, they enter the defensive structures at the border and deal a harsh blow to the pursuing Geya Alliance.

After suffering bombardment, the foremost troops of the Geya Alliance are devastated and directly fall back.

The Geya Alliance troops set up camp three kilometers from the Sun Kingdom border, around 8 PM, dense tents appear, surrounded by numerous tanks and trucks.

A few trucks drive out of the camp, dragging a cart full of bodies, bodies haphazardly piled at the back of the truck, these are all fallen comrades.

Three legions, nearly 970,000 soldiers stationed here, given the Geya Alliance’s overall army size, this is at most the advance force.

The camp is lively, groups of soldiers can be seen drinking together, alcohol is banned in the military, but that’s just regulation, soldiers live each day uncertain of tomorrow, not letting them relax could cause bigger issues.

The two major countries have fought from plains battles to siege warfare, now the Sun Kingdom is on the defense, they must stabilize internally first before considering retaliation or negotiating for concessions.

Currently, the Geya Alliance has two options, either to break through the Saint Limen Fortress in front or withdraw troops. As for bypassing the Saint Limen Fortress and attacking the Sun Kingdom from the hilly side, that’s simply impossible.

Within 200 kilometers nearby, besides the Saint Limen Fortress, there are seven other fortresses in similar positions. As long as the Geya Alliance’s leadership does not lose their minds, they won’t attack those seven fortresses. Those cursed places can be defended by tens of thousands to block hundreds of thousands of troops.

If you want to invade the Sun Kingdom territory, the Saint Limen Fortress is the best choice; other battle zones are only suitable for deploying small squads to harass. The Sun Kingdom knows this, which is why they built Saint Limen Fortress here.

The Saint Limen Fortress can station 100,000 troops, and the H-shaped military trenches in front can accommodate 200,000 soldiers, it’s easy to defend but hard to attack.

The night camp is brightly lit, the aroma of alcohol and roasted meat mingles, the atmosphere in the camp is lively, even though each soldier’s drinking is strictly controlled, times when they’re not fighting are moments of happiness.

Su Xiao is lying in the tent resting, he must take advantage of any free time to ensure sleep.

After sleeping for a few hours, Su Xiao is awakened by a piercing bugle sound, the tent is slightly dim, he crawls out of the tent, the glaring sunlight makes him squint.

In front of the camp, soldiers are gathering to attack the Saint Limen Fortress.

Su Xiao lifts the flap of the next tent, his assistant is curled up in a sleeping bag, the sleeping bag leaves only an air vent.

Su Xiao kicks the sleeping bag twice.

”Let me sleep a bit more～”

The assistant’s hazy voice comes from within the sleeping bag, this girl hasn’t closed her eyes for over 72 hours.

Su Xiao grabs the end of the sleeping bag, upends it, and unzips it, the assistant slides out of the sleeping bag.

”Ah?”

Just awoken, the assistant seems to have ”dazed” written on her face.

”Assemble.”

”Yes!”

The assistant jumps to her feet and quickly dresses.

After leaving the camp, Su Xiao and the assistant follow the large unit advancing towards Saint Limen Fortress.

Thousands of tanks lead the advance, these steel beasts are exceptionally fierce, raising massive plumes of dust, countless infantry behind them eat dust.

The numbers of trucks and armored vehicles are countless, no wonder other nations describe the Geya Alliance as bloody barbaric, insatiable. Judging by this situation, they clearly aim to invade Sun Kingdom territory, without the slightest intention of negotiation.

Half an hour later, Sun Kingdom’s trenches and Saint Limen Fortress come into view. Before this, Su Xiao had never seen a fortress with an outer layer nearly all metal, but today he did.

Under the sunlight, Saint Limen Fortress reflects a dark iron color, the entire fortress is about 60 meters tall, such a high building appears quite bulky, one can imagine its land area.

Woo～

A whistling comes from above, Su Xiao looks up, a cannon shell over a meter long falls from high altitude.

Boom!

Patterned steel fragments fly, a tank blasted to pieces, surrounding soldiers pierced by metal fragments, almost instantly, within a hundred meters of the shell’s landing, it’s a bloody mess.

”Ah!!”

A soldier cut in half by steel screams loudly, he grabs a handgun from the ground and shoots himself in the head.

Boom, boom!

In front, tank cannons spew flames, there is still half a kilometer from Saint Limen Fortress, but hitting such a large fortress is easy.

Shell after shell hits Saint Limen Fortress, after a round of bombing, Saint Limen Fortress’s patterned steel layer only shows scorched marks.

The tank group halts 800 meters from Saint Limen Fortress, underneath the fortress is enemy trenches, moving forward is tantamount to suicide.

The Geya Alliance soldiers use the tanks as cover and start digging trenches.

Dense bullets fly, occasionally a friendly soldier falls, the trenches beneath Saint Limen Fortress are full of enemy troops, heavy machine guns shoot as though bullets are free.

Blood and dirt splatter, the price of an assault; the enemy has complete defensive facilities, when the battle starts our side will definitely suffer.

Under enemy bullets and bombs, trenches are quickly dug, interiorly lined with patterned steel plates and fixed frames, temporary trenches are completed.

Su Xiao crouches behind a tank, incoming bullets prevent him from raising his head. He originally didn’t want to go to this battlefield, but last night, after using the temporarily granted detection ability from the ’Personal War Main Line Task’, he had to participate in this war, task target Divine Envoy Du Bo · Yi Si arrived last night at Saint Limen Fortress from the Sun Kingdom interior, Su Xiao’s target is within the fortress.

”Sir, the digging’s done.”

Amidst the hail of bullets comes the assistant’s voice, Su Xiao leaps into the trench, this trench is about a hundred meters long, patterned steel plates already erected at the front, without these plates the trench is nearly pointless.

Su Xiao pulls the bolt of the Mr. 24 sniper rifle, those hiding in trenches and fortresses are just sitting ducks in his eyes, it’s a great opportunity to earn Reincarnation Paradise Merit.
