Chapter 1402: Chapter 24: You Did That on Purpose, Jue

Night warfare with hot weapons relies thirty percent on luck, seventy percent on cover. Visiblity under moonlight is extremely low, beyond fifty meters everything is pitch black.

A sniper rifle with night vision is almost like a ghost on the battlefield at night.

”Sir, it’s 11:21.”

The assistant leaned close to Su Xiao’s ear, her breath hot against his face. Just now, a shell dropped twenty meters away, and the assistant nearly vomited from the blast wave.

”Too close.”

Su Xiao was unaffected by the blast wave. The assistant’s bright eyes blinked, indicating she didn’t hear what he had said.

It turns out, chatterboxes aren’t scary usually. When a chatterbox is half-deaf, she thinks everyone is half-deaf.

Actually, Su Xiao doesn’t dislike the assistant. She is very good at range estimation, able to pinpoint enemy positions within ten meters of error with her naked eyes.

Besides, Su Xiao’s original partner, Hai Dong, was also a chatterbox. Compared to Hai Dong, the assistant’s chatter isn’t much.

”Sir, it’s 11:22.”

The assistant leaned in again. She’s different from 99% of girls, lacking the mythical body fragrance and was instead covered in the smell of gunpowder.

Su Xiao raised his voice, ”I know.”

”Right, what do we do?”

”Wait.”

The reason for the assistant’s urgency is because orders from above state that at 11:30, the 12th Regiment will start coordinating infantry and armor to drive back the enemy’s tank division. If they don’t capture this place by midnight, there will be big trouble.

Hence, before 11:30, Su Xiao must cover three Slaughter Troop members to move into the forest on the inclined side. When 11:30 comes, they’ll launch illuminating shells en mass, making it hard for the three to sneak through.

”They’ve moved.”

The assistant ducked back into the trench as a bullet whizzed overhead, narrowly missing her headshot.

Su Xiao picked up a blood-stained helmet from the ground and tossed it.

Da-da-da...

Bullets poured intensively, the earth above the trench flew from the hits, and the patterned steel before him protruded repeatedly.

Clearly, the enemy has pinpointed Su Xiao’s location. Snipers are hated on the battlefield, constantly raked by machine guns, bombardments, and tank fire.

”Change position.”

Su Xiao grabbed the back of the assistant’s collar and jumped out of the trench.

Whizz, whizz...

Bullets whistled by as Su Xiao threw a shock bomb from his hand.

Bang!

White light exploded in the night as Su Xiao rushed behind an overturned tank, half of a burnt corpse hanging from the tank’s main gun.

The assistant rubbed her eyes, her expression clearly saying: ’Where am I? How did I get here?’

Su Xiao dropped the assistant and took out the thermal imaging device, placing it underneath the tank chassis. Red human silhouettes appeared on the screen; it’s a disposable item of blue quality.

Among the many red silhouettes, there were three purple ones, these are the three members of the Slaughter Troop.

”What’s this?”

The assistant clearly hadn’t seen a thermal imaging device before.

”Technology.”

Su Xiao was observing the paths of the three, he wouldn’t act unless an absolute need arises.

”Looks amazing.”

The assistant touched the imaging device and Su Xiao glanced at her, prompting her smile.

”27 meters...”

After hesitating for a moment, Su Xiao poked out from behind the tank.

Bang!

The gun fired, and a soldier 780 meters away had his torso pierced by the bullet, falling back half a step to sit on the ground.

Woo~

The whimper sliced through the air as a shell came down on Su Xiao from above.

Almost instantly, the assistant tore the thermal imaging device off the bottom of the tank, realizing its value. While she prepared to pounce from the cover, she was shocked to find that the 48-ton cover moved.

Crack, crack, crack...

Steel twisted as Su Xiao lifted the abandoned tank single-handedly, tossing it toward the falling shell.

Boom!

Fire blossomed in mid-air as the assistant felt a power surge from hehind, flinging her body forward.

With a thud, the assistant tumbled into a mud pit. As she recovered, Su Xiao was already near her, setting up the sniper rifle.

”Position.”

”South, 173, 670, 3.2.”

The assistant rapidly reported a series of numbers, all Su Xiao needed was the distance. Regardless the gun, bullets don’t accelerate after leaving the muzzle, they fly in a parabolic arc towards the enemy.

Su Xiao pulled the trigger, the enemy 50 meters from the Scout Dog was headshot; Scout Dog, Blind Mountain, and others lunged into the forest.

Su Xiao checked the surroundings, confirming a low risk before diving toward the trench. Compared to the mud pit, the trench was far safer.

The assistant crawled forward quickly, while Su Xiao entered the trench twenty seconds before she did.

Amid the roar of shells and whistling bullets, the assistant lay in the trench gasping for air.

”Thought we were dead for sure, hahaha.”

The assistant flipped upright like a carp, the move stylish, but the next moment, Su Xiao kicked her down flat.

Whoosh~

Several bullets flew overhead.

”It hurts~ I calculated the height. Bullets couldn’t hit me, sir.”

The assistant clutched her stomach.

”Is that so? Then it’s my mistake.”

Su Xiao lit a cigarette, his task was nearly complete. All that remained was to infiltrate the enemy’s front line.

”You’re definitely avenging. Absolutely, absolutely.”

The assistant sat on the ground, pulled out compressed biscuits from her pocket, and started munching.

A rumble echoed from behind, tanks were arriving, at least a hundred of them. It’s the friendly tank division.

The tracks clattered, a hundred tanks advanced in parallel, crossing over the trench, effortlessly trampling over it.

Su Xiao leapt out of the trench, following behind a tank, with the assistant close behind.

Clang!

An anti-tank shell clattered against the side of the tank, sparks flew as the shell bounced away, its final position unknown. The steel plate struck on the tank’s side glowed red hot, steaming.

”Wow~”

The assistant ducked, her face smiling.

Boom, boom, boom!

Tanks poured fire into enemy trenches, illuminating shells exploded to brighten the sky.

The battlefield turned bright as day, and thick white smoke billowed from enemy trenches. Moans resonated from the smoke; friendly tanks had fired white phosphorus bombs, incendiary bombs designed for tanks.

”Ah!!”

An enemy soldier covered in sparks dashed from the smoke, quickly torn into a rain of flesh.

Friendly infantry had all leaped from trenches, forming a line behind the tanks. Occasionally stray bullets struck them, and those hit collapsed to the ground.

Su Xiao was perched on the side of a tank, glancing at the enemy’s trenches, curious about why the enemy tanks hadn’t deployed.

The tank advance was nearly unstoppable, closing within 80 meters of enemy trenches after mere minutes across a 700-meter front line, with over a hundred tanks driving forward.

The tanks focused their fire, and within ten minutes, the enemy trenches were blasted to bits.

”Send in the infantry.”

An officer inside a tank yelled over the radio, shortly after, the infantry dispersed behind tanks advanced forward; in a plains war, the side deploying tanks holds a decisive advantage.

Su Xiao moved atop the tank, knocking on its hatch with his gun stock, a puzzled tank crew opened the hatch.

”What are you doing?”

”Make room.”

The assistant squeezed inside the tank, followed by Su Xiao, his upper torso protruded from the hatch. After the assistant negotiated, the tank moved forward.

The battlefield situation defied everyone’s expectations, the enemy front line was remarkably weak, collapsing within fifteen minutes and losing their defense stronghold. From beginning to end, the enemy did not deploy a single tank.
