Chapter 1318: Chapter 1317: You Have to Pull a Wave of Mobs to A Them

Riding the airship was a new experience for both Zhao Ling’er and Lin Yueru. It was not too bad for Zhao Ling’er, since she had at least ridden a Phoenix before. But for Lin Yueru, it was different. Ever since the airship took off, she was so excited that she couldn’t stop running around, standing by the porthole and looking at the scenery below with great excitement.

This made Fang Zheng recall how he had been the same way when he first flew on a plane, although he gradually calmed down later on.

However, after the initial excitement wore off, Lin Yueru discovered she had come down with an incurable condition common to many humans.

Seasickness.

At first, Lin Yueru managed to endure, but after a while, she couldn’t hold on any longer, her eyes swirling as she was about to collapse. With no other choice, Fang Zheng had Aika take Lin Yueru to a guest room to rest, otherwise, who knew how much more uncomfortable she would get.

The airship was naturally much faster. A journey that would take ordinary people several days in ancient times was accomplished in less than an hour on the airship. Fang Zheng then found a secluded spot to land the airship and disembarked Zhao Ling’er and the others.

”Ugh... Doctor Fang, this mystical artifact... it’s really uncomfortable...”

Even after stepping onto solid ground, Lin Yueru was still staggering, looking as if she was drunk, her face ashen. Watching Lin Yueru in this state, Fang Zheng helplessly patted his forehead.

”Let’s go, this is Jinhua. I see a small town ahead; let’s rest there and grab something to eat.”

Lin Yueru couldn’t even speak at this point, nodding weakly while supported by Zhao Ling’er. Meanwhile, Aika watched this scene with interest, as if enjoying an amusing play.

Following the mountain path, it didn’t take long before they reached the outskirts of a small town. However, Fang Zheng was puzzled because the town seemed deserted, with hardly any people around. The surroundings were littered with broken bits of metal and wood. If Fang Zheng hadn’t sensed the presence of life here, he would’ve thought this was an abandoned place.

”Ugh... Doctor Fang, what’s wrong here?”

After walking a bit, Lin Yueru started to recover and took a bottle of mineral water, gulping it down... It seemed more fitting for a heroine in ancient garb to use a waterskin, but since Fang Zheng always carried mineral water and soda, he didn’t have a waterskin. So Lin Yueru looked more like an actress taking a break after filming a costume drama...

”Ahhh...”

After finishing the bottle of mineral water, Lin Yueru felt much better and handed the bottle back to Fang Zheng.

”Doctor Fang, here’s your bottle back...”

”Keep it. If you don’t need it, just throw it away somewhere.”

Fang Zheng wasn’t into collecting recyclables, no need for an empty mineral water bottle. Lin Yueru pondered for a moment while looking at the bottle, then obediently put it away. To her, it seemed much prettier than a waterskin and would be useful for getting water when traveling the Jianghu...

”Master, I feel there’s something strange about this place.”

Even Zhao Ling’er noticed something was wrong; since entering the town, they hadn’t seen a single soul, although it wasn’t uninhabited. In fact, there were people in the surrounding houses, but they stayed out of sight, peeking at the group through cracks. It was eerie.

”The Serpent Demon said a Great Demon appeared here, and it seems that might be the case.”

For some reason, this scene reminded Fang Zheng of a movie he had once seen, Van Helsing. A place ravaged by yokai wasn’t likely to have normal people, and this place seemed no exception.

”Whoosh---!!”

Suddenly, a chilling wind swept past. In an instant, thick clouds rolled in, obscuring the sun. The town quickly descended into a gloomy darkness, like it was the dead of night.

”Master, there’s demon aura.”

Zhao Ling’er had already drawn her weapon, her fingers moving to form seals. Lin Yueru also unsheathed her longsword, vigilantly scanning her surroundings. Aika silently stood by Fang Zheng, yawning out of boredom.

”Hehehe, hahahaha...”

Soon, a series of cold laughs echoed, reverberating throughout the town. From afar, they could see shadows occasionally darting through the alleys. At the same time, mist gradually enveloped the area.

”Ugh... What on earth are these things? Are there really ghosts in broad daylight?”

Seeing the white shadows flitting around, Lin Yueru broke into a cold sweat, her dizziness and weakness forgotten. Though she had learned from her father, she had never fought yokai or mountain spirits. She didn’t encounter any minor yokai in the Hidden Dragon Cave, and even when facing the Snake Man, she was behind her father cheering ”six six six.”

Strictly speaking, this was Lin Yueru’s first battle in the Jianghu!

”Waaaah!”

Suddenly, with a scream, a white ghost shadow descended from the sky, rushing at them.

”Thunder Curse!”

Zhao Ling’er reacted quickest, extending her hand towards the white shadow. A bolt of lightning struck the figure, and with a scream, it flew backward, disappearing into the mist.

”Eek---!!”

However, this seemed to mark the beginning, as dozens of ghost shadows emerged from the mist, shrieking as they charged at the group of four.

”Sword Qi Finger!”

Facing these yokai, Lin Yueru showed no fear, pointing her finger forward. A white light shot forth, hitting a ghost shadow, blasting it away. Meanwhile, Zhao Ling’er formed seals with her hands, chanting under her breath. Soon, a gale arose, and under Zhao Ling’er’s guidance, a swirling tornado engulfed several ghost shadows.

The remaining ghost shadows realized something was amiss and quickly scattered, charging at the group again.

A fierce battle ensued between Zhao Ling’er, Lin Yueru, and the ghost shadows, while Fang Zheng and Aika stood idly by, watching. For them, these small ghosts could be taken care of with a flick of a finger and wouldn’t even raise their rank. So it made sense to let Zhao Ling’er and Lin Yueru, the novices, gain some experience points.

At first, the two could handle the back-and-forth with the ghosts, but as time went on, their lower ranks became apparent. Lin Yueru was the first to withdraw. After all, she didn’t practice spells like Zhao Ling’er, and her sword was ineffective against the ghosts. After repelling several ghost shadows, Lin Yueru had no choice but to retreat. Shortly thereafter, Zhao Ling’er, exhausted, also pulled back.

”What? Are you done already?”

”I can’t keep going.”

Holding her sword, Lin Yueru replied helplessly, and Fang Zheng nodded.

”In that case, leave it to me.”

As they spoke, the ghost shadows regrouped and charged at them. Facing the oncoming ghosts, Fang Zheng extended his hand and snapped his fingers.

In the next moment, a beam of energy filled with positive energy descended from the sky!

Solar Flame Burst!!

The dazzling white radiance instantly engulfed the entire town, turning everything before them into a pure white scene.

When they opened their eyes again, the ghost shadows had entirely vanished, the black clouds above had dissipated, and sunlight poured down, illuminating the land.

”...What on earth just happened?”

Looking around, Lin Yueru frowned in confusion. But then, doors all around them opened, and a group of raggedly dressed people rushed out, throwing themselves at Fang Zheng and the others.

”Immortal, please save us!!”
