Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 1314: Chapter 1313: Pulled Another One In

”Should... make it random?”

”Exactly.”

Faced with Aika’s question, Fang Zheng nodded and snapped his fingers.

”You see, as Ling’er mentioned, your combat system is too hardcore and difficult, not very friendly to average players...”

It’s not just unfriendly. You have to know, even though Ling’er is a descendant of Nuwa, her reaction speed could break records in esports. Yet, she can’t even beat the first boss. Fang Zheng didn’t feel anything about it before, after all, he’s the Time Dragon and also a True God, and Aika connects with the Origin. For them, any game is a piece of cake.

But obviously, these two can’t represent the average player.

In fact, even Ling’er can’t represent the average player. Can normal people really reach the reflexes and intelligence level of a descendant of Nuwa?

Yet even Ling’er can’t beat the first boss, which can only show the difficulty is too hardcore.

We can’t expect everyone to become gods or connect with the Origin before playing this game, right?

”In that case, I think we could add some more grinding elements.”

”...Grinding?”

”Exactly, you see, before meeting the first boss, doesn’t the protagonist need to complete many tasks? I think we could change the rewards for these tasks to be random, like those hidden treasure chests. The magecraft learned and Formal Wear found could have a random element, like a chance to learn Advanced Magic or get Advanced Magic Relics, and then add a set effect.”

Saying this, Fang Zheng became more spirited.

”Or we could simply add a talent system. For instance, if the protagonist is a physical class, they could unlock the Eye of Direct Death, or if they’re a magic class, they could access Future Sight or the Petrifying Evil Eye... Hmm, this would be more convenient, also reducing the difficulty, and letting players repeatedly explore dungeons and maps.”

After all, isn’t the essence of grinding in games just slashing and hacking?

”But... if we do that... the whole structure would need a redo...”

”Take your time, there’s no rush, we have plenty of time.”

”.......”

For the first time, Aika felt that even the Origin might have unsolvable problems.

”Knock, knock, knock.”

At this moment, Fang Zheng heard a knock on the door, followed by Lin Yueru’s voice from outside.

”Doctor Fang, Miss Zhao, Miss Sajou, sorry to disturb you.”

”Oh? Miss Lin, please come in.”

Hearing Fang Zheng speak, Lin Yueru pushed open the door and walked in.

”Is there something you need?”

”It’s like this, I’m not sure if any of you are interested in taking a tour of the City of Suzhou. My father ordered me to show you around the city... What is that?”

Lin Yueru naturally also saw the computers in front of Aika and Ling’er and asked curiously. In fact, she had seen Aika tinkering with this thing back when they were in Shengyu Village, and she was already curious about it. But at that time, her mother was seriously ill, and Lin Yueru had no mind for such things. But now... it’s different.

”Oh? This?”

Hearing Lin Yueru’s question, Fang Zheng was momentarily stunned and then spoke.

”This is called a computer, used for playing games, hmm...”

Thinking this over, Fang Zheng continued looking at Lin Yueru.

Honestly, neither he, Aika, nor Ling’er are suitable representatives for regular players. At the moment, Lin Yueru... seems to be an ordinary mortal?

Anyway, all samples are needed.

”Would you like to try it out?”

As he spoke, Fang Zheng retrieved another computer from his inventory.

”Huh? Can I?”

Hearing Fang Zheng’s words, Lin Yueru’s eyes lit up with interest, and Fang Zheng nodded.

”Of course, by the way, we can also test the multiplayer system... Come on, you and Ling’er should start an instance and begin anew; Ling’er, you teach her how to do it.”

”Alright, Master.”

Hearing Fang Zheng, Zhao Ling’er nodded, then sat down with Lin Yueru and taught her how to use it. Lin Yueru was clearly very interested in this ”Magic Artifact,” and it wasn’t long before she was hooked.

This is the way it should be.

Watching the two happily gaming, Fang Zheng nodded in satisfaction. The world is so harmonious, isn’t playing more games better than getting caught up in romantic entanglements and conflicts? So boring.

Seeing the two immersed in their game, Fang Zheng also waved goodbye to Aika and headed out humming a tune. There was still time before dinner, so why not stroll around the courtyard, take in the scenery, and snap some selfies?

The Lin family’s garden was indeed large and quite characteristic of the Martial Arts World. Fang Zheng took a few selfies in the peach blossom forest, recorded some scenic views of rock gardens, then leisurely walked to the gate. To Fang Zheng’s surprise, as he reached the gate, he heard crying and wailing from outside...

What the heck? Could it be that Lin Tiannan is an evil tyrant?

Hearing the cries, Fang Zheng immediately thought of those scenes in novels where young women are forcibly taken.

”Young Master, the heavy snow has blocked the mountain for ten days, and we have no rice or wood at home. We are at our wits’ end.”

”If you’re at your wits’ end, then use Xii’er to clear the debt!”

”Xii’er is my lifeline, I can’t let you take her away...!”

”To hear Xii’er must be used to pay the rent, it’s like a bolt from the blue! Xii’er, you’re my lifeline, father and daughter cannot be torn apart! I beg you, Young Master, show mercy, spare me, old Yang, this one time. I only have this one girl, tears fall only when one is at the end of their rope...”

Humming a tune, Fang Zheng walked to the gate and looked outside, only to find an old man kneeling there, weeping bitterly.

In front of him stood several servants of the Lin Family Castle.

”What’s going on?”

Curiously, Fang Zheng moved forward to inquire. None of this was apparent in the game. Could it be that Lin Tiannan, with his thick brows and big eyes, is actually Huang Shiren?

”Doctor Fang.”

Seeing Fang Zheng approach, the Lin family’s servants appeared a bit embarrassed.

”It’s nothing serious, actually... it’s just that... Old Man Zhang came seeking help from our Lin Family Castle...”

”Does seeking help warrant such weeping and wailing?”

Fang Zheng scanned the group, and the servants shrank back, not daring to speak. The elderly man, seeing Fang Zheng approach, although unsure who he was, noticed Fang Zheng’s dignified and elegant appearance, with sword-like brows and starry eyes, exuding charm, and an air of a handsome gentleman with refined elegance, immediately realized that this must be someone of influence. He hurried over.

”Young Hero, please save us!”

”Elder, speak your mind... What’s the matter?”

Seeing the old man fall at his feet, Fang Zheng hastily extended his hand to help him up.

”What happened?”

”It’s like this, Young Hero, my granddaughter Xiaohui was taken away by a Serpent Demon... sob sob, I only have this one daughter...”

”Serpent Demon?”

Hearing this, Fang Zheng paused for a moment, then quickly recalled this part of the plot. If he wasn’t wrong, in the game, it seems that Zhao Ling’er revealed her true form due to pregnancy and made a run for it, followed by Li Xiaoyao chasing her and discovering the Hidden Dragon Cave.

But in Fang Zheng’s view, he actually considered this one of the few not-so-righteous acts done by Li Xiaoyao in the game. After all, in the game, the yokai couple in the Hidden Dragon Cave, though they forcibly took away many young girls, neither used them as some sort of catalyst nor mistreated them, only having them serve tea, do laundry and cook. At most, it could be considered human trafficking, yet Li Xiaoyao entered, slaughtering without a word... well, youthful impulsiveness, let bygones be bygones.

But on another note...

”Young Hero, you may not know.”

Seeing Fang Zheng’s expression, the servants from the Lin Family believed he was displeased with Lin Tiannan’s methods and hastily offered an explanation.

”The yokai in Hidden Dragon Cave has been causing trouble for years, capturing countless girls. Lord Lin has recruited many heroes to enter the cave and exterminate the yokai, but to no avail, causing many casualties...”

”Heh heh...”

Upon hearing the explanation from the Lin family servants, Fang Zheng couldn’t help but laugh. What a joke, if you can’t handle it by sending others, why don’t you deal with it personally? Even Sylvanas sometimes goes on missions herself... And you, as the Martial Arts Alliance Hierarch, just cheer from behind?

But forget it... since I’m here, let’s consider it a pilgrimage to the Sacred Ground of the Immortal Sword...

”Rest assured, Elder.”

Thinking this over, Fang Zheng made a decision.

”Leave this matter to me.”
