Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

”I’m actually quite conflicted.”

”Let me share my thoughts with you, you can help me consider.”

”Considering from our own perspective, I first think about stability.

First, the downsides: letting these people in will add certain pressure on us.

First is the issue of shelter; we’re talking about several thousand people, we might have to add at least five more greenhouses for them to live in. Right now, the greenhouses are all used for growing plants, and we can’t be sure they won’t harm the seedlings.

Moreover, with so many people, if a riot erupts inside the city, it will be difficult to handle and could lead to chaos.”

”Additionally, I don’t trust these people. Although the saying goes that one rotten apple spoils the whole barrel, the last protest doesn’t represent everyone, but it does show that this crowd isn’t easy to manage.

Allowing them in could result in management issues.”

”Regarding food supplies, we used to lend food to some cooperative personnel during natural disasters, and most of those old cooperative personnel would return it.”

Second Uncle responded:

”Actually, there’s something else you might not know.

Those old cooperative personnel, after completing tasks over the past few months, many teams actually store their grain with us— we’re like a bank before Doomsday.

These people are very frugal, controlling their food daily. From the computer data, most cooperative personnel have points that, if not exchanged for food, could support their food supply for half a month.

Some can even reach up to four months’ worth.”

”That many?” Li Yu asked in surprise.

”Yeah, maybe they’re afraid of going hungry, so they don’t dare eat much normally. They save while doing tasks, only spending a small part for daily use.”

Li Yu nodded and said, ”That’s quite good, at least it’s a form of trust in us, and it reduces our pressure.

Let me continue.

For the old cooperative personnel, we can offer food lending, but for these new cooperative personnel, five thousand people— that’s no small amount and it’s quite possible we won’t get the food back.”

.....”

While speaking, Li Yu realized the downsides of letting the new cooperative personnel in were really numerous.

Previously he pondered alone without telling others, but now as he spoke, he organized his thoughts and came to a rough decision.

Second Uncle hearing this, said, ”Since that’s the case, what do you have to be conflicted about?”

Li Yu smiled wryly,”I’m not done yet; I planned to finish listing all pros and cons but ended up talking so much about the cons— some of which I hadn’t even thought of before— it all came out this time.”

Second Uncle patiently said, ”Then tell me about the benefits of bringing them in, weighing the pros and cons could help sort your thoughts.”

Li Yu nodded and continued:

”The benefits pertain to the future, for the long-term development of Big Camphor Tree Base.

In the future, we’ll need more population, more labor force, these people might be converted into driving force for Big Camphor Tree Base’s future development.”

”That’s it?” Second Uncle asked with a smile on his face.

Li Yu desperately searched through his thoughts but came up empty.

After all, Big Camphor Tree Base is pretty well developed now, unlike two years ago when population was low and combat power was weak.

Plus, recently those new cooperative personnel have been quite annoying.

Not only were they ungrateful, but they rebelled and protested.

Li Yu smiled wryly, ”I can’t think of anything else at the moment, but after talking to you, I roughly know what to do now.”

Second Uncle nodded and said:

”I believe what you said before about personnel holds true: quality over quantity. If a team is large but not united, with severe internal friction, it actually isn’t strong.

If a team isn’t big, but everyone plays their role and is sufficiently united, with plenty of elites, then it’ll be very powerful.”

”Better to have none than subpar.” Li Yu’s eyes sparkled as he spoke.

”Exactly, that’s the point. Besides, didn’t you bring Zhang Qiwu and others in last time? These few people are enough; they’re knowledgeable, capable, and we should look for such people.”

”Alright, I understand, then those new people shouldn’t be let in.”

Li Yu had his answer and spoke.

After saying this, he told Second Uncle, ”Let’s have Satellite City people start organizing things, and pause all tasks; don’t let cooperative personnel go far to execute tasks anymore.”

Hearing this, Second Uncle thought for a moment and said:

”There’s something else, I registered those new cooperative personnel before, among them, some actually have good skills.”

”Moreover, some claimed to have met you. Like Zhang Rufen, who said you asked him to come over, does that ring a bell?”

Li Yu recalled Zhang Rufen’s name instantly.

”Uh... yeah, there’s some history, it’s a bit of fate with him, maybe I’ve been too busy lately.”

”That Zhang Rufen keeps saying he wants to meet you.”

”Well, Zhang Rufen’s team can be let in. How have they been performing lately?” Li Yu asked.

”Pretty decent, among many new cooperative personnel, they completed quite a few tasks and their quality is good. Last time during the protest personnel search, his team caught the second most.”

Li Yu pondered and spoke:

”Speaking of which, I remember Uncle talked to me last time about a motorcycle rider named Dai Jiusheng. Before the protest broke out, he wanted to warn me; I seem to remember seeing him back when I went to Southeast Asia, he left an impression.

This person seems to be a veteran; let’s count him in.”

Second Uncle nodded and said, ”It’s not just him, there’s also Shi Fanfan, Zhao Si...

These small teams, some are military veterans, some have specialized skills; none of them participated in the protests.

I think these few teams can be allowed in.

It’s perfect that their numbers aren’t many, totaling under a hundred.”

Hearing Second Uncle say this, Li Yu calculated in his mind.

We can’t cast all of them out; there are still some people deserving protection.

Thinking of this, Li Yu spoke to Second Uncle:

”Okay, why don’t you make a list and jot down those people’s names, then let them come in; as for other new cooperative personnel, ignore them.”

Second Uncle nodded and said, ”Alright, I’ll go write up the list of new cooperative personnel to let in.”

After finishing, he walked towards the duty room.

Li Yu quickly said, ”Also have the Satellite City people prepare, let them start organizing tonight, and we can retreat to Big Camphor Tree Base the day after tomorrow and henceforth.

The Fourth and Fifth Satellite Cities are relatively far from Big Camphor Tree Base; they’ll need to hurry.”

”Got it, don’t worry, I’ll head up and issue this news.” Second Uncle said.

Li Yu nodded and watched as Second Uncle left the Second Outer City.

Silently contemplating:

After discussing this with Second Uncle, the major issue is understood.

Today is already the 24th, and it’s already the evening of the 24th.

Tomorrow is the 24th, leaving one or two days; the time left for them is three to four days.

Within three to four days, getting everyone and supplies from five Satellite Cities to Big Camphor Tree Base is quite tight.

”Tomorrow Xiao Jun and their team can return with the oil.”

”He Bing and their group are also coming back together.”

”I don’t know if the oil well repair went smoothly, whether it can be finished tomorrow.”

Li Yu gazed at the sky and mumbled to himself.

Key is he recalled Zhang Rufen, remembered seeing this guy before, and Li Yu found it amusing.

”Dai Jiusheng? That motorcycle rider.”

”Zhao Si, Shi Fanfan...” Li Yu recited the names Second Uncle just mentioned.
