Reincarnated as a Mosquito, I Sucked the Reborn Empress to Tears

Chapter 27: Chapter 27: An Opportunity at Hand Is About to Be Snatched Away? Chu Sheng: Don’t Panic! I Have a Plan

“Don’t move!”

The moment Chu Sheng’s Perception picked up on the dozen or so powerful auras, he hastily sent Gu Yuexi an urgent mental warning.

“Huh?” Gu Yuexi was just about to sneak into the valley, her heart full of doubt.

But out of the trust she had built in Chu Sheng’s uncannily skillful reconnaissance ability over the course of their journey, she still instinctively stopped in her tracks.

She pushed her Breath Concealing Technique to its absolute limit and soundlessly hid with Chu Sheng behind a massive, half-a-man-tall rock, even holding her breath.

Before long, the sound of hurried footsteps, heavy with killing intent, approached from the distance.

The moment Gu Yuexi saw the newcomers through a crack in the rock, her cool pupils constricted violently, and her breath caught in her throat.

’Jingzhe Guild… the Shadow Fang Squad!’

She was horrified, recognizing at a glance the distinctive black Combat Suits they all wore.

They were one of the most elite hunting squads under the banner of the Jingzhe Guild, one of the three major Hunting Guilds in Jiang City!

As a former Empress in her past life, she was intimately familiar with all the famous powers and experts from every region.

This Shadow Fang Squad was renowned throughout the area around Jiang City for their ruthlessness and a one-hundred-percent mission success rate. They were truly hardened characters who had clawed their way out of mountains of corpses and seas of blood.

She never expected to run into them here!

’This is big trouble…’

In that instant, Gu Yuexi’s expression turned incredibly grim.

The Shadow Fang Squad had suddenly appeared here, and with the familiar figure of Hu Feng in their midst, no less.

She knew without even having to think that they were definitely here for the Eighth-Grade Demon Beast struggling with childbirth and its three cubs!

Sure enough, the group of more than a dozen people, led by Hu Feng, headed straight for the valley entrance.

At the front was a tall woman with a cold face and a sharp, knife-like gaze.

She just stood there silently, but an invisible pressure emanated from her, making the very air around them seem to freeze.

She was the captain of the Shadow Fang Squad, the long-renowned Seventh-Grade Beast Tamer, Leng Yan!

Gu Yuexi’s heart instantly sank to the bottom of the valley.

A Seventh-Grade Beast Tamer!

’What did that even mean?’

Forget the fact that she was currently just a First-Grade Middle Stage Martial Artist—even if you gathered all the students and teachers from Jiang City Lingwu High School, it wouldn’t be enough to be a snack for this squad!

Just the two of them—one First-Grade Martial Artist and one First-Grade Demon Beast—how were they supposed to snatch food from the mouths of these tigers?

This was no longer about snatching food from a tiger’s mouth; this was like trying to snatch nuclear waste from Godzilla’s mouth. It was simply courting death!

…

“Captain Leng, this is the place!”

Hu Feng’s face was filled with irrepressible excitement and a trace of lingering fear as he pointed toward the depths of the valley. “That Azure Flame Flying Lion is in there. Its aura is already extremely weak! Let’s rush in now and finish it while it’s weak!”

However, Leng Yan shot him a look as if he were an idiot, her voice as cold as her name. “Do you have any idea how terrifying the last-ditch counterattack of an Eighth-Grade Demon Beast is?”

“Er…” Hu Feng was cut short and didn’t dare speak again.

“A starved camel is still bigger than a horse, not to mention an Eighth-Grade Demon Beast with a High-Level Bloodline.”

Leng Yan’s sharp gaze swept across the dark valley as she analyzed calmly, “It’s only weak right now, not dead.”

“If we go in and push it into a corner, it could self-destruct its Demon Core and take all of us with it. You and your two dead team members are the best examples of that.”

Hearing this, the other members of the Shadow Fang Squad also showed grave expressions.

Although they were all experts at Fifth-Grade or higher, they couldn’t help but be nervous when facing an Eighth-Grade Demon Beast, even a dying one.

“The Guild Master and the other Top Notch squads aren’t in Jiang City right now. We are the only force the guild can currently mobilize.”

“This mission must succeed; failure is not an option. If we suffer losses here, there will be no reinforcements.”

Her thinking was crystal clear, and she quickly made the safest decision.

“Relay my orders!”

“Yes!” all the squad members responded in unison.

“Everyone, make camp here and seal off the entire valley entrance!”

Leng Yan’s voice was devoid of emotion. “We will wait. We’ll wait until that beast inside breathes its last, then we’ll go in and clean up.”

“During this time, anyone who dares to approach this area, no matter who it is…”

A frigid killing intent flashed in her eyes.

“Kill without mercy!”

“Yes!”

With the order given, the members of the Shadow Fang Squad immediately sprang into action.

With a clear division of labor, they began setting up a perimeter and various traps outside the valley, clearly prepared to settle in for the long haul.

Just then, as if remembering something, Leng Yan turned and asked Hu Feng, “When you retreated earlier, did you run into anyone else around here?”

Hu Feng froze for a second, the images of Chen Hao, Gu Yuexi, and the other students flashing through his mind.

He quickly replied, “Captain Leng, we ran into a group of students from Lingwu High School on the outskirts of the Black Forest earlier. It seemed like they were here for a mission too.”

“But they were all very weak. The strongest was only at the First-Grade Late Stage. They’re no threat.”

“Students?”

Leng Yan relaxed and snorted dismissively. “A bunch of wet-behind-the-ears kids. Even if they had ten times the nerve, they wouldn’t dare venture this deep.”

…

Behind the rock, Gu Yuexi and Chu Sheng, who had witnessed everything, felt their hearts grow heavy as lead.

’It’s over… All hope is lost…’

Gu Yuexi bit her lower lip, her nails digging into her flesh, her heart filled with unwillingness.

A heaven-sent opportunity was right before her eyes, within arm’s reach, yet this damned Shadow Fang Squad had beaten her to it!

She knew better than anyone just how correct—and deadly—Leng Yan’s decision was.

They were waiting for the prey to fall into their lap, conserving their strength while their enemy grew weaker.

Once the mother lioness died, they could take the three cubs without shedding a drop of blood, while she and Chu Sheng wouldn’t even get a chance to get close.

The gap in power was too vast, so vast it was despairing.

’Maybe… we should just retreat?’

The moment that thought arose, Gu Yuexi’s heart felt as if it were being sliced by a knife.

She was unwilling! Truly, deeply unwilling!

And perched on her shoulder, Chu Sheng was equally frantic.

’Holy shit!’

’The cooked duck just flew away?!’

’That’s the Essence Blood of an Eighth-Grade Demon Beast! And three walking “Super Experience Packages”!’

’If I could get my hands on all that, it would be enough for not just my third evolution, but my fourth and fifth evolutions too!’

’Just give up like this?’

’Impossible! Absolutely impossible!’

’I, Chu Sheng, have read hundreds of web novels. What kind of protagonist’s halo or fate-defying plot haven’t I seen? Am I really going to chicken out here today?’

’No way! I have to think of something!’

Chu Sheng’s mind raced, taking stock of all his current abilities and resources.

’A direct confrontation? Definitely not. That’s no different from smashing an egg against a rock.’

’Sneak in? They’re professionals with tight security. With my ten-centimeter frame, I’d probably be blasted to bits the moment I flew over.’

’Then what can I do?’

Suddenly, a plan so bold it bordered on insane flashed through his mind like lightning!

’I’ve got it!’

BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ! (’Don’t go! Empress, don’t go! I have a plan!’)

He excitedly flapped his wings against Gu Yuexi’s cheek, transmitting an incredibly resolute thought to her.

Gu Yuexi, who had just been steeling herself to retreat, was suddenly stunned.

’You have a plan?’

She looked at Chu Sheng in disbelief, her mental voice filled with doubt.

’What kind of plan could you possibly have?’
