Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 791: 791 give up

Zhao Xiahe watched Dashan roasting the rabbit from the side.

She didn’t know what to do in the future. It seemed like relying on herself, she couldn’t get out of the situation.

Unconsciously, her gaze drifted towards Dashan. He was a particularly burly man, intimidating at first glance, not unattractive, with thick eyebrows, big eyes, and a high nose bridge.

Actually, if he wasn’t from the mountains, he would probably already have several children, right?

Thinking about the hundred yuan her mother gave her, she still felt some resentment towards her. What’s wrong with wanting a good life? Is it wrong to pursue what I want?

Why do they see it as unforgivable?

Everyone wants a good life, wants to eat meat every day, to have new clothes to wear, to buy whatever they like, to live in a nice house.

Is there anything wrong with such pursuits? It’s their parents’ incompetence, everything has to be fought for by the children themselves.

They don’t realize their problems and still drag their children down.

At this moment, the aroma of the rabbit wafted over. At least now she could eat meat. Although she knew life in the mountains wouldn’t be good, there was this upside: she could eat meat.

Zhao Xiahe comforted herself in her heart. At least one of her requirements was met.

The rabbit was now roasted to a perfect crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. Dashan handed Zhao Xiahe a rabbit leg, which had the most meat.

When they finished eating, Dashan picked a few big leaves from a tree and wrapped up the last rabbit.

”Let’s go back and rest. We won’t come out tonight.”

Zhao Xiahe looked at her now dry clothes, collected them, and went into the cave without saying a word to Dashan.

She didn’t know what to say. Dashan tidied up, gathered some more branches, and also went into the cave.

He directly blocked the entrance with a stone, vaguely seeing the woman leaning against her luggage.

Dashan remembered what Auntie said, so he walked over to Zhao Xiahe.

”What are you doing?”

”Resting.”

”You go to the side, I’ll stay here.”

”Together with you.”

Zhao Xiahe was already nineteen years old, and the village women spoke bluntly, daring to say anything, so she understood Dashan’s meaning.

”Not here, at least give me a wedding ceremony.”

”I’ll give you one when we go back, but not now.”

Zhao Xiahe couldn’t escape from Dashan at all.

In the end, she cried aggrievedly. Dashan held her, realizing how good it felt to have a wife. No wonder people in the village would spend all their savings or even borrow money to buy a wife.

Auntie said that once he took her, even if her family wanted to back out, they couldn’t. Now she was his.

He couldn’t hear her crying anymore. Looking down, he saw she had fallen asleep; she was really carefree.

Auntie told him that he understood this was his wife’s first time, and although she wasn’t good, Auntie was right, she was still clean.

He decided to treat her well in the future. Since she loved eating meat, he would make sure she had it often. He could manage that.

After waiting for a while, feeling desire again, he woke her up once more.

Eventually, Dashan realized it was already dark, so he got up.

After lighting a fire, he roasted the rabbit once more, then woke Zhao Xiahe up to eat.

Zhao Xiahe didn’t want to move at all, but the smell of the meat made her get up.

”I’ve had enough rabbit meat.”

”When we go back, I’ll cook chicken for you.”

”I want to eat pork.”

”We’re raising pigs at home, but we can’t slaughter them yet. I’ll go out and see if there’s other meat.”

Dashan was already quite satisfied. As long as his wife had good food, she was content. It was simple; meat was manageable, but not much grain.

At night, Dashan still held Zhao Xiahe. She had no grievances now, it was what it was. Just go with it.

However, the Wang Family and the Zhao Family were in turmoil. Wang Shulin only found out this afternoon that his niece had been married off into the mountains.

Wang Shulin was so angry his head was pounding. He stormed over to his sister’s house.

”What kind of nonsense have you two done? Do we sell our girls in this family?” It’s clear, marrying into the mountains, they must have been paid.

”They gave a hundred yuan, which I directly gave to Xiahe.

It’s you who all dislike her. She’s my daughter. I couldn’t bear it either, it’s you who all forced me, I had no choice.”

”What did we force you to do? We just wanted you to marry her off quickly. But as her mother, shouldn’t you find her a suitable family?”

Wang Cuihua just sat there crying, feeling miserable. Although she resented her daughter’s lack of ambition, truly letting her go was too painful.

”And having the reputation of selling a daughter, does that help the family’s reputation?” Wang Shulin was furious. He was already busy, and now he had to worry about their mess.

”Shulin, this girl has been acting strangely. She was eyeing Old Yang, and he’s married. We couldn’t keep her tied up. There’s always a time when we can’t watch her, and we’re afraid she’ll cause trouble.”

Zhao Dashan sighed. He had no choice but to say it; otherwise, the family’s reputation would be ruined.

Wang Shulin thought to himself and felt it was the right decision to marry her off.

”Sigh! Why does the child act like this? She had a good life. Life in the mountains is tough.”

Everyone knew this. But only by marrying her there might she settle down.

”Is Xiahe’s husband the nephew of Liu Ershao’s family?”

”Yes, he looks quite good, healthy, with thick eyebrows and big eyes, seems like a sincere person,” Wang Cuihua said, feeling dejected.

”Then go ask Liu Ershao when her nephew will come again. We have nothing else, but we can give them some grain.”

The Zhao couple both nodded. They had thought about it too, that when the son-in-law came, they could send back some grain with him. It’s all they could do.

When Wang Shulin got home, he lay on the kang, brooding. What a mess!

”Dear, stop worrying. It’s not so bad. With help from her family, life won’t be too hard. Mainly, the chances of her coming back are low. As relatives, it’s good enough to send some grain.”

Wang Shulin hummed in agreement.

”Dear, you don’t know that the sister-in-law has already broken ties with the eldest sister. They were supposed to introduce Lina to a city boy, but it didn’t work out. She’s been sulking at work these days as if someone owes her money.”

Wang Shulin once again felt fortunate that his own daughter was still young. He planned to find her a husband early on to avoid future worries.

Thinking of this, he fell asleep. His wife sat beside him mending shoes. When it was time, she woke her man up to go to work. Today’s wheat should be completely planted. But the villagers still weren’t idle, having to both plant wheat and harvest the grain to hand over to the state.
