Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 763: 763 learned

”Thank you, Mr. Liu, life for us common folks is not easy. I just want everyone to have a good life.”

”Village Chief Li, I feel that your village’s days will definitely get better.”

”I’ll take your kind words, Mr. Liu, to heart.”

Li Yungui watched Liu Zhibin get into the car, then turned around to head home. He had to go to Xiao Wei’s house to pay back money today and help with the cotton picking.

When he got to the Wei Family, only the kids were home.

”Uncle Chief, my Uncle Wei and the others have gone to the private plot to pick cotton.”

”Alright, you three stay home, I’ll go to the field to find them.”

This Xiao Wei family really doesn’t want to take advantage of the villagers.

When he got to the field, he saw that a lot of cotton had already been picked.

”Village Chief Li, did you see off the bank officials?”

”Yes, they’re gone.” Li Yungui walked alongside Wei Kaiyun, picking cotton as well.

”Xiao Wei, from the way Mr. Liu talked, it seems like the bank will approve it.”

”They should, the city will surely take this matter seriously.”

”Xiao Wei, when are you leaving?”

”Mid or late next month. I’ve got to go up the mountain to chop wood these days. We need a lot of firewood at home.”

”Hmm, I think by then, the money will definitely be available.”

”This time after we stock up, I’ll have the brothers escort it back. Chaoyang and Xiang Dong will go south with me.”

”Xiao Wei, how’s your first batch of cotton looking?”

”Very good, we’re leaving the cotton seeds for the village.”

”Hmm, next year we can plant dozens of acres.”

”Sure, but it’s best not to plant the seeds directly. I think it’s better to raise seedlings early, that’s how I grew my cotton.”

”We’ll do as you say.”

Li Yungui went back home with their family, looking at the cotton peaches in storage, feeling more and more satisfied.

Next year we can save a lot of grain. We can hand in the cotton, won’t have to keep using corn instead.

And besides, if we plant more, everyone can get a share of the cotton, which they’ll definitely be willing to do.

”Xiao Wei, where are you planning to fluff the cotton?”

”I heard that Sun Family Village next door does cotton fluffing?”

”Yes, but since we have a vehicle, let’s go to the township.”

Wei Kaiyun didn’t have any objections to this; any way is fine, and if it doesn’t work out, Sister-in-law Liu can do it too.

Li Yungui didn’t stay for dinner but gave Jiang Xinyu ten yuan.

”Village Chief Li, you gave too much.” She didn’t refuse. Some precedents shouldn’t be set, and besides, there’s the worry of forming a habit, then it becomes troublesome if you don’t give it. This way, money paid and received is best.

Seeing Li Yungui insist, Jiang Xinyu also had Sister-in-law Liu cut a two-pound piece of cured meat for Li Yungui to take back.

Both sides were quite satisfied with this.

Wei Kaiyun smiled and asked his wife, ”I thought you wouldn’t accept it.”

”I’m afraid of fostering expectations.”

Wei Kaiyun nodded, indeed that’s the case.

”Wife, I’m going up the mountain to chop wood tomorrow. It’ll dry up there for a while, then I’ll bring it down.”

”I’ll go with you, tomorrow let Master Shang and the others stay at home, and make sure the milk is prepared, if it’s not enough, there’s still powdered milk.”

”Alright, we’ll go together.”

During breakfast the next day, Wei Kaiyun talked about going up the mountain today. Jiang Feifei looked at her father eagerly.

”Dad, Mom, I want to go with you.”

”We want to go too,” the two boys interjected.

Jiang Xinyu thought for a moment, ”Feifei, come with us. Jianbin, Shi Jing, you two can go with Monk Master in a few days.”

The two nodded reluctantly, knowing their sister could go, but they had to stay home.

Jiang Feifei’s eyes squinted with a smile. Going up the mountain with Mom, maybe they’ll find something good.

After breakfast, Jiang Xinyu prepared water bottles and a few steamed buns. Both of them carried baskets and set off.

Wei Kaiyun carried his daughter. Jiang Xinyu had a basket hanging in front of her. ”Dad, don’t we need to carry the firewood back? Won’t someone bring it back?”

”Feifei, I brought a rope. The firewood is still green now, too heavy to carry. We’ll bring it back in a few days.”

”Dad, can you catch some wild chickens or rabbits or something?”

Wei Kaiyun laughed, ”I think I can. Today, I’ll make sure my sweetheart eats meat.”

”Dad, I want Mom’s roast chicken again.”

”Alright, no problem, wild chicken isn’t good for roast chicken. I’ll make time to buy some to raise at home; that’ll make a good roast chicken.”

”Alrighty.”

The family of three happily went up the mountain. Along the way, Feifei picked some herbs, but they were all very ordinary, though Wei Kaiyun was willing to help his daughter.

Jiang Xinyu helped too, so before they started chopping wood, the two baskets were already full.

”Dad, why don’t you take them back?”

Wei Kaiyun shook his head, ”No, I’m worried about you two. Let’s find a hidden place to dry these herbs first, and when we leave, I’ll come back again.”

The mother and daughter glanced at each other, obviously not objecting.

They continued to walk further in. With the baskets emptied, the mother and daughter continued to happily collect like little bees.

After walking some distance, the basket was full again, ”Sweetheart, how do you know so many herbs?”

”From reading books. Last time I went to the city’s scrap station, I found quite a few books.”

”My daughter’s so smart,” Wei Kaiyun looked proud, which amused Jiang Xinyu.

”You two wait here for me. I’ll take these to where we left the others and be right back. You mustn’t move.”

”Alright, don’t worry, we’ll keep picking here.”

After Wei Kaiyun left, the mother and daughter looked around ”Mom, there’s nothing good here, later when we have a chance, we can take a deeper walk inside.”

”Absolutely not. Don’t do anything that would worry and disappoint us.”

”Don’t worry, I won’t. Before I know how to protect myself, I absolutely won’t let myself be in danger.”

Hearing her daughter’s assurance, Jiang Xinyu felt relieved.

When Wei Kaiyun came back, the three continued forward.

They came upon a thicket. These were trees that hadn’t fully grown yet, but they were branches anyway.

”You two play over there, but don’t go far. I’ll go chop these branches.”

”Mom, look over there, there are a few dead trees. We can take them home.”

”Okay, we’ll go chop them together then.”

After speaking to Wei Kaiyun, he refused, ”We’re just going to take a look. It’s not far; finish chopping and come find us. We’ll take it slowly.”

When they reached the few dead trees, Jiang Feifei circled around them, ”Mom, wait, why are all these trees dead? Let’s check around first.”

Jiang Xinyu also found it strange, so the mother and daughter held hands, seriously examining the trees.

”Feifei, did you notice anything?”
