Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 766: 766 goes up the mountain

”But there are still many people who think city life is better.”

Li Xue just smiled without saying anything.

”Li Xue, why aren’t you going to school?”

”The school isn’t holding any classes now, just some activities. I’m quite introverted, so I don’t want to go to school anymore.

There’s nothing to do at home, so it’s better to come back to the village to participate in the labor.”

”Yeah, and you can save food for your family.”

Li Xue frowned at what Li Ju said. Although she is introverted, she isn’t someone who takes bullying without saying a word.

”We eat the same amount, not saving any food.”

”You’re eating at your second uncle’s house, isn’t that saving food for your family?”

”My second uncle’s house is also my home.”

”They’ve already divided the family, how can that be your home?”

”Li Ju, your thinking is problematic. My second uncle is also my elder. Even if they have divided the family, they are still brothers, and he’s still my elder. You’re just an outsider worrying too much.”

”You? You’re just here to take advantage.”

”My second aunt treats us like her own children. We will also be as filial to her as we are to our own mom. Only those with bad intentions would say this is taking advantage.”

”Li Ju, hasn’t the village chief’s house become yours yet? You’re sticking your nose into everything.”

”Li Xing, what’s it to you?”

At this point, the girls gathered around burst into laughter.

Li Ju turned crimson, stood up, and ran away.

”What’s going on, Li Xing?”

”Li Ju likes your second brother and wants to be your sister-in-law.”

”My second brother?”

”Yeah.”

”Then I guess her hope is dashed.”

”Who says otherwise? She just dreams big.”

The girls are aware of the situation, but nobody jokes with Qu Xiaoli.

Qu Xiaoli always laughs and jokes, but she’s exceptionally tough, once fought three women and didn’t lose. So people generally don’t mess with her.

The Wei family did not join the labor; instead, they went up the mountain again, but didn’t pick chestnuts, leaving some for others.

Wei Kaiyun and Shang Zhenkun chopped down the dead trees, tidied up, and took the kids further inside.

After passing the chestnut trees and walking quite a distance, they found persimmon trees.

The persimmons were yellow but still hard.

”Xiao Wei, can you climb trees?”

”I can.”

Let’s pick a couple of baskets of persimmons. I’ll make lazy persimmons for the kids at home, they will be crunchy and sweet.

Hearing they could eat, the kids became excited.

Wei Kaiyun swiftly climbed up the tree and picked two large baskets of persimmons.

”Master Shang, let’s leave the persimmons here, carrying them is too tiring.”

”Alright, let’s just leave them under the tree.”

Then the family ventured further inside and found hawthorn trees. Wei Kaiyun climbed up and picked a basket again.

”I can make candied haws and hawthorn preserves.”

”Mom, let’s pick more hawthorns, okay?”

”Sure, I can also make hawthorn cake and haw slices.”

With these words, the kids were even more enthusiastic. Wei Kaiyun went down the tree, grabbed a pole, and started knocking them down directly under the tree.

The kids squatted and gathered them under the tree, putting them directly into a netting bag.

Picked two bags of hawthorns before they stopped.

”Master Shang, should we go further inside?”

”Let’s go and check, there are still sour pear trees and apple trees inside.”

Afterward, the family picked two bags of apples and two bags of sour pears.

Jiang Xinyu promised them she would make sour pear preserves for them to enjoy slowly.

Wei Kaiyun was happy the kids could indulge, so he worked hard.

There was already a lot of stuff, and the family was eager but unable to go further.

Wei Kaiyun carried four bags by himself, Shang Zhenkun carried two, Jiang Xinyu carried a basket of persimmons, leaving the remaining basket for next time. The family was back down the mountain two hours later.

Jiang Xinyu was very concerned about Wei Kaiyun, ”You guys continue to go up the mountain, Feifei and I will go home to transport the goods, so it’s not dangerous.”

Wei Kaiyun wiped his sweat, ”Let me do it, don’t tire yourself.”

”Dad, I’ll help mom.”

”Yes, we’ll take our time.”

Finally, Wei Kaiyun agreed, and the four of them went up the mountain together.

”Mom, what do we do?”

”Let’s go back and get the cart, don’t worry, we can make it back in three trips.” Jiang Xinyu finished speaking and winked at her daughter.

They took an hour to transport everything back home. They only pushed one bag at a time, waited until reaching the door, realized there was no one around, and then loaded three bags. So it only took two trips.

Fed the two little ones once. Feifei waited by the side, ”Mom, should we go again?”

”Yes, let’s go and see.”

”Xiao Jiang, I’ll go instead.” Sister-in-law Liu looked at the two red-faced girls with much concern for Feifei.

”It’s okay, Sister-in-law Liu, you stay at home.”

”Wait a moment. I’ve steamed chive and egg buns for you to carry for the four of them to eat.”

So, the mom and daughter ate lunch at home before heading back up the mountain.

”I wonder what good stuff dad found again?”

”I don’t know either. Let’s go find them.”

Mother and daughter ascended the mountain along the road, and when they reached near the persimmon trees, suddenly heard snorting sounds.

”Mom, what’s that sound?”

”Sounds like an animal. Don’t make a noise, let’s carefully sneak over and take a look.”

They sneaked over, were startled by the sight under the persimmon tree.

There were three wild boars, two big ones and a small one. The family was eating persimmons.

”Mom, what should we do?”

”I don’t know.”

”Mom, I have a powerful tranquilizer here, if they eat it, they’ll definitely get knocked out in three minutes.”

”Alright, let’s use this, but it’s okay to eat the pork, right?”

”It’s fine. After an hour, the medicine’s effect is gone. Let me prepare some for you.”

”Okay, we’ll use peaches. They’re sweet; they’ll definitely love them.”

The mother and daughter peeled three peaches to enhance the flavor and make it easier to stick the medicine.

”Feifei, I’ll just toss them over.”

After tossing the peaches over, the mother and daughter lay on the ground, not daring to look up.

Jiang Xinyu counted in her mind, and before three minutes were up, there was a thud. Then at four minutes, two more thuds followed.

This was when the mother and daughter stood up, carefully walked over, and saw the three wild boars lying on the ground.

”Mom, use the hatchet to bleed them.”

”Yes, I know.”

”Mom, don’t worry, they absolutely won’t wake up within an hour.”

Jiang Xinyu nodded, lifted the hatchet, and hacked at the big wild boar, mainly at its head, finally slicing open its neck.
