Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 786: 786 Hot Sauce

Jiang Xinyu brushed out the small vat and set it aside. In the evening, she made three big pots of sweet bean paste.

”Aunt Jiang, this sweet bean paste is just like the sauce for roasted duck.”

”Jianbin wants to eat roasted duck?”

”I do want to eat it. When my dad comes, I’ll definitely ask him to bring a few.

”Ask your Uncle Wei to see if there are any ducks for sale. I can’t make roasted duck, but I can make something similar.”

”Really?”

”You’ll only know if you try, right?”

Jianbin ran off to tell Shi Jing and Feifei, and the three children went to find Wei Kaiyun, asking him to find ducks.

”Alright, if I see any, I’ll definitely bring them back. I’ll ask around and do my best to buy some for you. Even if I can’t buy any, you three can raise ducks yourself next year.”

Their eyes lit up. Yes, they could raise ducks themselves and enjoy salted duck eggs and roasted duck.

The next day, Jiang Xinyu made a vat of chili sauce for them, with a surplus left in a bowl. She wrapped the top of the small vat with plastic sheet and let them take it back themselves.

They kept the bowl for themselves to eat.

With the chili sauce, they stopped stir-frying vegetables, spreading chili sauce on flatbreads, which was absolutely delicious.

Wei Kaiyun saw them doing this and told them they must eat vegetables at least once a day.

That night, Old Yang came over by bike. They were going up the mountain tomorrow.

Old Yang tasted the tofu stir-fried with chili sauce and immediately fell in love with it.

”Xiao Jiang really has a knack. Bring some back for me.”

”Alright, Xiao Li can’t eat chili sauce. I’ve made sweet bean paste for her, let her eat that.”

That night, Old Yang and He Shangzhenkun, along with their grandfather, stayed together. At five in the morning, they had breakfast and headed up the mountain.

Jiang Xinyu noticed Old Yang and He Shangzhenkun were carrying guns. They really had everything, but it felt much safer this way.

With more than ten men heading up the mountain, Jiang Xinyu wasn’t too worried. She went about her usual activities at home.

Now, she started preparing the hawthorn compote. This was time-consuming and required removing the seeds from the hawthorn. Without suitable equipment, she had to slice the hawthorn, which made it much quicker.

This wasn’t urgent, so she worked on it slowly.

Wei Kaiyun and the others, fourteen in total, went up the mountain with a purpose, directly targeting wild boars and large animals, not wasting energy at the start.

”Brother Wei, you brought so much equipment. Do you think we’ll definitely have a fruitful day today?”

”Of course, how could we not have a harvest? Convert it to money and let you have a good New Year.”

This made the young ones excited, brimming with energy.

”Be careful. Although we brought equipment, it’s only for emergencies. Otherwise, the village will know we went up the mountain. Making money should be done secretly.”

”Okay, we all get it.”

The twelve of them had no experience, with Old Yang leading the way. Although they were trained before, not as experienced as veteran hunters, they were certainly better than these young ones.

Along the way, Wei Kaiyun discovered quite a few fruit trees, mostly apple and pear trees, thinking he could come back for the kids to taste them.

”Everyone be careful, I’ve found animal tracks.”

Now everyone was alert, cautious.

Old Yang signaled with his hand from ahead, indicating something was up.

Wei Kaiyun carefully approached Old Yang, seeing the situation ahead.

What luck was this? A herd of wild pigs? In a wild wheat field, a group of wild pigs was eating.

Old Yang glanced back at Wei Kaiyun, the two understood each other, giving up wasn’t an option. Ahead was a big wild pig, likely a family out foraging.

Wei Kaiyun quietly turned around, pointing out nine people to follow him. They walked about twenty meters, leaving three behind, then continued enclosing with six.

They walked another twenty meters, leaving three more. Finally, they went to the wild pigs’ rear with three people.

Old Yang also spread out with a few people. Wei Kaiyun took out medicine-laced apples from his bag, carefully rolling them beside the wild pigs.

One after another, rolling over, yet the wild pigs didn’t notice.

Finally, Wei Kaiyun used some effort, tossing one directly near a wild pig’s mouth.

Apples had a stronger scent than wheat, and the medicine also had a fragrant smell.

So this wild pig snacked on the apple, the other pigs noticed, each one indeed ate an apple.

Everyone lay on the ground, waiting. The wild pigs searched around and found nothing, then resumed eating wild wheat. Wei Kaiyun checked his watch, after ten minutes, the wild pigs started wobbling, signaling the medicine’s effect.

The two didn’t move, so the young ones waited as well. Another five minutes later, the largest wild pig collapsed with a stubborn growl.

Only then did Old Yang and Wei Kaiyun cautiously approach the wild pigs, realizing they were all unconscious, signaling the twelve to come out.

”Quickly bleed them. Collect the blood in buckets, try not to spill outside. Be very careful.”

In pairs, Wei Kaiyun and Old Yang oversaw the process.

They were all strong lads, and in ten minutes, all the wild pig’s blood was drained.

Wei Kaiyun wiped a rag on the wounds, then the two of them managed a pig each, but they were still extremely heavy, weighing five to six hundred pounds each.

Quickly they went to chop wood, making rafts.

After half an hour, all fourteen started heading back. Two of them kept watch on both sides, wary of anything emerging.

An hour and a half later, they were nearing the mountain’s base, ”Old Yang, drive and ask Xinyu for tarp.”

”Shall we sell all these pigs?”

”Keep one for everyone to taste, send the rest directly to the city.”

”We won’t be able to carry them.”

”Then leave it at your place, I’ll find buyers in the city, let them come to haul it themselves.”

”Too conspicuous.”

”It’s fine, they’re trustworthy people.”

”Alright, let’s transport them one by one.

But don’t leave them at my place, directly stash them in their yard. No villagers will come.”

”Alright, I’ll go drive.” Old Yang ran downhill, Wei Kaiyun watched the twelve young ones, their clothes soaked through, now wearing thick clothes but still soaked, truly exhausted.

Old Yang moved swiftly, and by the time he arrived, Wei Kaiyun had already had four people leading one pig down.

It took an hour to transport the six wild pigs back.

Now everyone felt relieved, slumped on the ground, exhausted, tense, feeling a mix of emotions. Relaxing now made them feel even more worn out.

Old Yang drove away, Wei Kaiyun watched them rest enough, ”Still want to go back up?”
