Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 765: 765 goes up the mountain

Feifei and Jianbin were certainly willing. However, today Wei Kaiyun was frightened, so he didn’t agree to his son’s request.

When going downhill, the three adults pulled from behind, making it much easier.

They only finally reached the foot of the mountain after dark.

Both the children and the adults felt extremely tired.

Jiang Xinyu hurried home with the kids, worried about the trouble caused by the two little ones at home, especially the little tyrant, Shi Xian, who surely wouldn’t behave.

Shang Zhenkun stayed behind to watch the items, while Wei Kaiyun went back up the mountain, as his daughter had picked some medicinal herbs.

When Jiang Xinyu got home, Sister-in-law Liu had already prepared dinner. She was very anxious because it was dark and they hadn’t returned.

Seeing Jiang Xinyu come back, she finally breathed a sigh of relief.

”Sister-in-law Liu, can you push the cart to the foot of the mountain?”

”Sure, I’ll go right away.”

Jianbin and Shi Jing also went along.

”Mom, next time let’s go by ourselves, I’m glad I managed to gather a lot.”

”There’s no way to explain where it came from.”

”You’re right, you three worked so hard to get these things down.”

After Jiang Xinyu finished freshening up, seeing the two little ones still asleep, she felt relieved. As long as the little tyrant wasn’t causing trouble, she was satisfied.

She washed her clothes, and Wei Kaiyun also returned, pushing the cart onto the cement ground.

”Wow, you had quite the harvest today.” Sister-in-law Liu was happy to see bags of chestnuts poured onto the ground.

”Not bad, no one has been up the mountain yet, so we got them easily.”

Wei Kaiyun made three trips altogether to bring them all back.

The family hadn’t had dinner when Chaoyang and Xiang Dong arrived.

”Master Wei, we’re going to Jin Family Village to plant wheat tomorrow.”

”Hmm, take a couple more people so it’s not too tiring.

Also come here in the morning, take a bag of chestnuts to Old Yang.”

”Master Wei, did you go up the mountain?”

”Yes, you two can take some back with you.”

”No need, we’ll go up the mountain ourselves.”

”Do you have time?”

”Well, but what about your brothers?”

”Take some back to eat first.”

Both of them carried half a bag of chestnuts home.

”Are the dormitories finished there? Are they going back?”

”It’s not easy for them, I’m thinking of organizing a trip for them into the deep mountains.”

”Is it doable? Won’t there be any danger?”

”Be careful, as long as we don’t provoke any big animals, it’s fine. It won’t be too difficult for them.”

Jiang Xinyu wouldn’t argue against Wei Kaiyun’s decisions, knowing he must have thought them through.

After the family finished dinner, the two little ones woke up. Today they had milk powder, initially refusing it, but they were so hungry they ended up eating.

However, lying in their mother’s arms at night, they were quite excited, especially Little Shi Xian, whose eagerness amused Wei Kaiyun.

After Chaoyang carried the chestnuts home, ”What’s this?”

”Today, Master Wei went up the mountain and picked a lot of chestnuts, asked me to bring some back to eat. Xiang Dong has some too.”

The four boys were immediately excited upon hearing the news, eager to go up the mountain.

But Li Yungui said something that dampened their enthusiasm. Yet, they remained persistent. ”Uncle, can we go with Master Wei?”

”Master Wei doesn’t have the time to take care of you. He will be leaving soon, and is busy preparing firewood. Don’t add trouble.

Wait until the village organizes an outing during the farming off-season, then you can go.”

That works too, as long as they can go up the mountain.

Li Xue also yearned to go, knowing she could, a smile appeared on her face.

After dinner, the family gathered on the bed, peeling chestnuts together.

”We should seize the chance and gather more chestnuts, grind them into flour, and at the New Year, make steamed chestnut buns for you. They’re sweet and soft, very tasty.”

”Mom, tell Dad to let us go up the mountain, otherwise others will pick the chestnuts.”

”Changhe, if you dare, just go tell him yourself. You know why Hunter Li hasn’t been out? Dare to go into the mountains? If you dare go, forget about your leg, and you must ensure your brothers stay here. You can’t go.

We’ll definitely take you all up the mountain this year. Don’t make things difficult for yourself.”

”Fine, I won’t go, definitely won’t go.” Changhe thought if Mom said something, Dad might agree.

”You’re all the same, must listen, don’t even think about going up the mountain, got it?”

Two hours later, the family had finished peeling all the chestnuts.

”Let them dry for two days. When your elder uncle returns, we’ll stew meat with chestnuts.”

”Mom, is there any meat left?”

”Yes, borrowed from Teacher Jiang’s place.”

Chaoyang finally got a good nap, then woke by five the next morning, and went out to cuddle with Mom to make a fire.

”Chaoyang, why didn’t you sleep a bit more?”

”I’m used to it. Mom, I’m going to J Village today.”

”You and Xiang Dong need to be careful.”

”Mom, don’t worry. We’re grown up.”

Qu Xiaoli made noodles with eggs for her son, which was quite a treat.

”Dad, will you be coming with us?”

”Yes, to discuss the price. Do you think six yuan per mu with the rotary tiller and seeder included is okay?”

”That’s too low, it shouldn’t be less than eight yuan per mu.”

”Eight yuan?”

”Yes, it’s much cheaper than spring planting.”

”Alright, we’ll negotiate.” After breakfast, Li Yungui went along.

At home were Li Xue and Qu Xiaoli.

”Second Aunt, can us women also go?”

”Of course. We’ll definitely take you siblings to see the mountain.

Xue’er, your dad will come visit on Sunday.”

”Whether he comes or not doesn’t matter, being here feels just like home.”

The two tidied up the house, Qu Xiaoli fed the three pigs, then went to work. The men were harvesting soybeans, while the women picked peanuts in the fields.

Most of the scattered grains were gathered, only the corn left, which was easier.

Li Xue followed Qu Xiaoli, receiving plenty of praise from the aunts, aunts-in-law, and neighbors.

Of course, there were some with ill intentions, thinking perhaps the once capable Li Family is struggling now.

For the farmwives used to labor, picking peanuts was light work.

A group of girls gathered, chatting away. They asked Li Xue about differences between city and rural areas.

”Actually, I feel rural life is better than city life. In the city everything has to be bought, here as long as you work hard, you can grow your own. Cities can’t compare to that.”

”But the city has lots of tickets.”
