Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 783: 783 Corn Shaking Machine

”But this was your idea.”

Jiang Xinyu laughed at this, ”Do we need to care about such things? As long as you’re well, our family will be happy too. Actually, it’s better to give it to you than to me, don’t worry, I’m not upset.”

Wei Kaiyun embraced Jiang Xinyu, ”How is my wife so good?”

”Did you just realize that?”

”I’ve always known.”

Meanwhile, Li Yungui pushed the corn shaking machine to the threshing ground, excitedly unloading it. He then asked everyone to stop their work and demonstrated squatting on the ground.

Everyone was thrilled as they knew this was a good thing.

”Village chief, what’s this?”

”This was developed by Xiao Wei and Old Yang. It’s a benefit for everyone.”

The threshing ground was now filled with laughter, people complimenting Wei Kaiyun, and some competing to shake the corn.

Li Cunshan came over, ”Gui Zi, if we had a few more, we could directly split the corn kernels this year.”

”Xiao Wei has already brought the blacksmith back, he’s going to live in our village. I think he plans to settle here permanently; he’s staying at Xiao Wei’s house now, and I’m sure Xiao Wei will build a house for him in the village.”

”That’s great, with Xiao Wei and the blacksmith, we can have as many as we want.”

”Yeah, if Xiao Wei’s family hadn’t come, we’d be like Tangjiazhuang.”

”Hmph, how can they compare to us? We’re lucky to have such capable people in our village. Yungui, the best decision you made in your life was accepting the Wei Family.”

Li Yungui smiled and said, ”Yes, I think so too.”

”Alright, everyone, get back to work. We have hope now, but we must keep working.” With this shout, everyone returned to grinding corn.

”Second brother, this really is a good thing.” Li Yunqiang also came over.

”Yeah, big brother already knows.”

This reassured Li Yunqiang. Of course, one’s good thing should belong to them.

Li Cunshan was already shaking corn, unable to hide his smile. ”Gui Zi, help me pick up the corn cobs.”

”I’ll do it, I’ll do it.” Li Yunqiang ran over.

Li Yungui was on the side collecting corn kernels. Wet corn couldn’t be completely shaken clean, so it needed to be manually rubbed off.

”Gui Zi, this one machine can do the work of five people.”

”Yes, let Xiao Wei hurry and make more so freed up people can help the blacksmith build his house.”

Of course, everyone had no objections; this was hope.

”Gui Zi, I want to work tonight too.”

”Brother Cunshan, I’m taking the machine home; I’m afraid it’ll be stolen.”

”Yes, it should be taken home.”

Tonight, Jiang Xinyu prepared a feast to welcome Lu the blacksmith.

Braised pork, pig head meat, steamed large intestines, a hot pot, stir-fried carrots, and cabbage stewed with tofu.

Lu Tiezhu had never seen such a lavish meal. There was even enough rice to eat.

”Master Lu, don’t be shy. Our family eats simply at night. This is specially prepared to welcome you.”

”Thank you so much. My old buddy has never seen such a rich meal.”

”Then please, help yourself.”

After dinner, Lu Tiezhu was called by Shang Zhenkun to listen to storytelling in their room.

”Brother, if life is like this, I’ll never leave.”

”Haha, brother, just settle in with peace of mind.”

The next day, Wei Kaiyun and Lu Tiezhu moved their tools to the pesticide factory because hammering and banging at home with children around wasn’t suitable.

Lu Tiezhu was a bit worried if this meant he couldn’t stay at the Wei Family’s house.

Who is Wei Kaiyun? He could see Lu Tiezhu’s concern.

”Master Lu, in the future, we’ll build you a house, and you can move your tools there. You can come back for three meals a day.”

”Really?”

”Of course. Don’t worry, Master Lu, since I invited you over, I’ll take care of you.”

”Alright, I don’t just want to eat for free. I’ll pay for the living costs. If I run out of money, I have some good stuff. Though they aren’t worth much now, they were really valuable before.”

”Okay.” Wei Kaiyun didn’t refuse. He understood human nature; no one is unconditionally good to someone else. Except for parents and children.

So, the two dug in at the pesticide factory, getting to work right away.

Li Yungui simply didn’t leave, staying by the side, watching.

The lunch was delivered by Shang Zhenkun. He delivered extra solid food because he was afraid it wouldn’t be enough for the three of them.

In the afternoon, when Wei Kaiyun assembled a new corn shaking machine, Li Yungui couldn’t wait and just pushed it away. Even out of the courtyard, you could still hear his laughter.

”Master Lu, do you think it’s okay? Let my brothers stay over and work.”

”Sure, no problem. If anyone wants to learn blacksmithing, I’ll teach them.”

”That would be great. I’ll call them over.”

Lu Tiezhu saw twelve young men, ”Good, all of you come help me. If anyone wants to learn to forge iron, I’ll teach them.”

With this, Wei Kaiyun managed to free himself up. ”I’ll send some sausages over for you tonight.”

The twelve men had tasted the sausages before, and just thinking about them made their mouths water. They weren’t shy about it.

Wei Kaiyun called Lu Tiezhu to go back. It wasn’t a light day either.

At this time, Dachengzi came over to Wei Kaiyun, ”Big Brother Wei, I’m not good with words. I don’t want to go out and sell stuff. Can I learn blacksmithing from Master Lu?”

”No problem, learn well.”

Dachengzi grinned naively. Being strong, learning blacksmithing was perfect for him, and frankly, he didn’t like being outside.

Wei Kaiyun brought over three large sections of sausages to add to their dinner menu.

”Brother Shuanzi, when we catch wild boar, let’s ask Sister-in-law Wei to make sausages for us too. They’re delicious, and our families should try them.”

”Sister-in-law Wei will surely agree. When the time comes, we’ll do the labor ourselves—just let her season the sausages.”

Li Yungui pushed the second corn shaking machine to the threshing ground amid another round of cheers.

”Village chief, it’s much faster today than yesterday.”

”Everyone, work hard. Only we have such an advanced machine. You all must cherish it.”

Li Yungui’s motivational efforts were effective in boosting everyone’s morale.

That night, lying in bed, Li Yungui couldn’t help but sigh, ”I never thought I’d see such success.”

”Go to sleep. We can’t let Xiao Wei cover the expenses for the machines, right? Even if Xiao Wei doesn’t ask us not to pay the blacksmith, we should still give him work points, right? After all, people need to eat. This shouldn’t be brought up by Xiao Wei, that would be improper.”

”Right, my wife is right. I’ll call a meeting tomorrow to give the blacksmith work points.” Li Yungui was so excited these days that he forgot about this. It was a good thing his wife reminded him; it wouldn’t be good if Xiao Wei had to mention it.
