Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 758: 758 Autumn Harvest

Within a few years, Sister-in-law Wu will be living here, which isn’t good for her.

”Has Xiao Wei finished harvesting everything?” Zhao Xiaoli asked in the evening.

”Everything should already be planted with wheat.”

”Will they come to our place too?”

”Yes, Village Chief Wang and Village Chief Li have already agreed, so we can plant more wheat.

Xiao Li, make sure you don’t tire yourself.”

”I know, don’t worry, I can handle it. Besides, Sister-in-law Wu is next to me to remind me.”

Ding Xiaojuan is also working in the wheat field; since the food has improved, she’s been much better.

Chen Hui instructed her to work slowly; it’s not critical for her.

”I know, hurry up and eat, you’ve lost a lot of weight these past few days.”

”That’s right, Xiao Ping and the others too. They’re worse off than us; I follow you and eat well, while they have it tougher.”

Even so, we didn’t invite them for a meal, as they’re really having a hard time now. Ding Xiaojuan is pregnant and still has difficulty, so good food should be kept for her.

”Wu Hong has been performing really well this year, always working in the field and not going to the wheat threshing place.”

”Has Huang Ying’s situation affected her a lot?”

”I think so too. Where do you think Huang Ying went?”

”She must have escaped far away; I don’t think she’ll ever return.”

”Yes, if she came back, she’d be executed.”

The couple rested for a while and then went back to work when they heard the bell.

Wang Shulin was full of fire and his throat became hoarse. There’s no choice, he has to speak a lot every day.

I wonder how Li Yungui’s progress is going now? The village has sorted out a hundred acres according to the previous estimate; there’s still a week, and others will finish planting wheat. We need to hurry.

With this decision, more people worked in the fields; the maize cobs at the wheat threshing place piled up since the workers here were old and weak.

Wang Shulin plans to sort out two hundred acres within this week. This way, we can keep up with the timeline.

The other villages are also harvesting in the autumn, and they don’t know they can lock the maize stalks directly, so their speed is slower.

You can’t blame Li Yungui for this; everyone is busy with the autumn harvest, so there’s no time to notify the idle people.

Now Chaoyang and Xiang Dong, the two brothers, cooperate very smoothly. The village plans to plant several hundred acres of wheat, and still a third hasn’t been planted.

The building is already topped out, now it’s just about ventilation. It’s already become a beautiful sight in Li Family Village, the most iconic building.

Wei Kaiyun has agreed with Li Yungui that these twelve people won’t require salaries, but they will work here in the future.

”Xiao Wei, how do we arrange so many people from the village?”

”Village Chief Li, they helped in building the houses, which is already a contribution. As for the arrangement of the villagers you worry about, we will have one person from each family, and not unmarried young people; this is a prescription, harmful to people’s health.”

”Can so many people be arranged?”

”Blending medicines, changing costumes, delivery, procurement, sales—you can rest assured, it can certainly be arranged. Do you think Old Yang provided the blue bricks and laborers for nothing?”

”Alright, I agree.”

”Village Chief Li, don’t worry, you won’t be put in a difficult position.

Since they are going to work, shouldn’t we build dormitories?”

”Do we need to build this?”

”You just need to give a plot of land; they can build dormitories themselves.”

”Okay, is it alright to build beside the factory?”

”Sure, I’ll inform them to start tomorrow, though we have to spend money on stones; if the village lacks funds, I’ll advance it.”

”We have money for stones.”

Thus, Shuanzi and the twelve people didn’t return home, and continued building houses.

Li Yungui specifically gathered everyone to inform them about this.

Villagers heard about one person per household; although a bit dissatisfied, they didn’t strongly oppose it. This matter was decided just like that.

The next day, Li Yungui went into town to report to Xing Xiangzhang.

”Good, I’ll go to the city with you tomorrow. After we complete all procedures, we’ll go to the bank to apply for a loan.”

Li Yungui felt relieved. There’s finally a path forward without worrying about money.

Actually, Wei Kaiyun had mentioned that if money’s really tight, he and Old Yang would find a way. The pesticide factory can definitely be built.

But Li Yungui felt insecure and hoped to go through official channels.

He rode back to the village and went straight to see Wei Kaiyun.

”That’s great, Village Chief Li, don’t feel pressured; it’s no problem. If Old Yang and I are funding, it’s like a loan to the village; don’t worry, nothing else is involved.”

Li Yungui felt a bit embarrassed by this. He immediately changed the topic.

”Xiao Wei, do we have anything besides herbicides?”

”We have insecticides too. It’s relatively simple; agricultural provinces already use it, such as cypermethrin and similar chemicals. I have some formulas here; you can take them to show the city leaders and bank staff.”

Li Yungui could read, but looking at those formulas made him feel confused.

”Wouldn’t showing these formulas to others cause leaks?”

”These are just general formulas; I won’t reveal the core technology. Originally, I wanted to share it with Chaoyang or Xiang Dong, but they’re quite young, and I worry about affecting their health later, so I arranged them in the procurement department; this is why I plan to take them with me for outings.”

”Xiao Wei, rest assured, I won’t disclose these formulas to anyone.”

”For Village Chief Li, I certainly feel assured. Entrusting them to you is the safest choice.”

Li Yungui was delighted; Wei Kaiyun had paved the way for his son, which was the best outcome.

That evening, Li Cunshan came to see Li Yungui ”Are we sowing wheat artificially in our empty sorghum fields?”

”Brother Cunshan, I think we should not; we’ve already got seven hundred acres of wheat, that’s plenty, and the hardest part will be next year’s wheat harvest. If we don’t harvest them, it’ll be a waste.”

”How could we not harvest them?”

”Then we’d miss planting sorghum. This year, our village’s sorghum yield is fifty thousand jin; after paying the dues, we have thirty thousand jin, leaving us with twenty thousand jin, so we absolutely can’t delay sorghum planting.

Besides, we need to let the field recover, right?”

”Alright, I just saw everyone idle and felt uncomfortable.”

Li Yungui laughed heartily ”Brother Cunshan, who’s idle? Just now strong folks started drying grains. We’ll deliver the grain early this year.”

”Alright, got it.”

”Brother Cunshan, assign three reliable people to help Xiao Wei pick cotton. If the yield is high, we should save some seeds, and next year at least plant dozens of acres of cotton, so we don’t use five jin of sticks to hand over one jin of cotton.”
