Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 741: 741 Care

”Not yet? Yesterday, Master Wei gave Changjiang twenty yuan, and Er Hong and a few others went along to deliver it.”

”Alright, I get it. If they don’t return in the next few days, and if the road is easier to travel, I’ll go to the township to check. It’s really troublesome.”

”Who wouldn’t agree?”

The three children were cleaned up, and they even washed their clothes and shoes thoroughly. Qu Xiaoli was pleased seeing this. These two nephews and one niece are really likable.

Chaoyang and Xiang Dong returned at this time. ”Dad, you’re home?”

”Yeah, why are you two all muddy? What have you been up to?”

”Dad, the two of us pushed a cart to deliver watermelons to the county supply and marketing cooperative and stopped by the township health clinic to see Brother Changjiang and his wife. We even lent them twenty yuan.”

”Where did you get the money from?”

”We scraped together fifteen yuan between us. The remaining five came from selling watermelons. Dad, give me five yuan; I’ll settle the account with Uncle Cunshan later.”

”Alright, go ask your mom for it.”

”Brother Chaoyang, Brother Dongxiang.”

”Aren’t you going to school?”

”Not anymore, we three came over to harvest the autumn crops.”

”Okay, in a few days, I’ll take you to sell watermelons.”

This made the two boys happy.

Qu Xiaoli found five yuan for her son, and hurriedly started kneading dough. The son and nephews haven’t eaten yet. Might as well make more, the family will have it for dinner.

The two took the money to settle the accounts. Red Army and Hongling accompanied them.

In the evening, the Li family’s table was especially lively; there were five boys and Xiang Dong didn’t stay. Only Xue’er was the lone girl.

”Dad, Sister-in-law Changjiang is awake; her lips are white though, and it’s quite scary to look at.”

Moreover, they wanted to go to the police station today, but Sister-in-law Changjiang fell as soon as she got out of bed, and the doctor wouldn’t let them leave. Said to wait until tomorrow.”

Li Yungui sighed. If the police come, it’ll be embarrassing for the village, but if we stop them from reporting, it’s unreasonable, given the suffering they endured, almost losing their lives. We can’t prevent them from venting.

Tomorrow I’ll definitely tell Cun Shan to assign heavy work to Li Laoshu’s family, a bunch of heartless people.

”By the way, what about Changjiang’s two kids?”

”They’re at Teacher Jiang’s.”

”Alright, I’ll go over later.”

After dinner, Li Yungui went to find Wei Kaiyun.

They were having dinner at home. ”Why is your dinner late today?”

”It’s always at this time; it’s Village Chief Li’s family dining early today.”

Ga Zi saw Li Yungui coming over and immediately ran over, ”Uncle, how’s my mom doing?”

”Good kid, don’t worry. Brother Chaoyang and Xiang Dong went to the clinic today to see your parents. Your mom is awake. Everything’s fine; she’ll be back in a few days.”

Ga Zi nodded with reddened eyes, ”Good as long as my mom is alright.”

Li Yungui patted the child’s head.

”Village Chief Li, come over for a drink.”

Shang Zhenkun called Li Yungui.

”Your home always has good wine and good food. I’ll shamelessly indulge today and satisfy my cravings.”

Sister-in-law Liu quickly set up a stool and brought out utensils.

Jiang Xinyu heard the children were awake and quickly finished her last bites of food. ”Village Chief Li, you all drink slowly, I’ll go check on the kids.”

Daya’s eyes followed Jiang Xinyu, anxious as she saw her go inside.

Sister-in-law Li quickly fed her. The egg custard was something this child hadn’t tasted since birth.

Sister-in-law Liu noticed the little girl looking like she was about to cry but held back, quickly comforting, ”Your Aunt Jiang went to feed your little brother and sister. Once you’re done eating, you can go find her.”

Feifei eagerly tried to amuse her, and the child finally continued eating.

”Only you two are this kind-hearted,” Li Yungui sighed.

”Xinyu is soft-hearted. But Ga Zi is also a good child. He tackles all the chores at home, a child just six years old, yet whatever he does, is quite adept.”

”Each family has its difficult story.”

Wei Kaiyun sat with them, not drinking but conversing.

Li Yungui discussed his decision with the elder brother. ”I’m thinking of going to the township tomorrow to ask Xing Xiangzhang.”

”Vice Mayor Li is right. It’s time to build the factory. We can gather materials and catch up with the schedule to get it done.”

”Alright, I’ll take charge tomorrow when I return from the township.”

Ga Zi didn’t leave with Shi Jing and the others; he heard Uncle say he’d visit the township tomorrow. ”Uncle, can I go with you? I can definitely walk there myself; I want to see my mom.”

”Alright, I’ll take you there tomorrow.” Li Yungui sympathized with Changjiang’s family; however, it was their personal matter. But if they really reported to the police, it wouldn’t be seen that way anymore.

It was well past eight o’clock when Li Yungui finally got home. He laid on the kang.

”Did you drink?”

”Yeah, the Wei family does have good food and wine.”

”You!”

”I’m heading to the township tomorrow, taking Ga Zi along; these two children are particularly cared for at the Wei’s, just in one day’s time, the little girl, who can barely speak, is already trailing behind Teacher Jiang.”

”Children are so perceptive; they know best who treats them well.”

”Indeed. Let’s sleep.”

Wei Kaiyun held his wife, who was breathing rapidly, ”Tomorrow Li Yungui is heading to the township.”

”He’s quite capable.”

”Indeed, it’s remarkable to have someone like him in the village.”

Early the next morning, after breakfast, Li Yungui came by to pick up Ga Zi.

Jiang Xinyu made sure Ga Zi was full and prepared a bag of steamed buns, over ten of them, along with ten pounds of food tickets for Li Yungui. ”Village Chief Li, I forgot to give them food tickets the other day. Not sure how they’ve been eating lately, please take these over, and also these ten yuan.”

”Alright, thank you, Teacher Jiang.”

Jiang Xinyu waved her hand, truly feeling sorry for those two kids.

For those foolishly filial, unfixable people, she genuinely has no respect.

Li Yungui led Ga Zi, and the two headed out of the village.

”Uncle, I’ll remember the kindness of Teacher Jiang and Master Wei for life.”

”Alright, you’re a good kid.” Li Yungui looked at Ga Zi’s shaved head, patting it. It felt quite good.

Li Yungui decided to drop off Ga Zi first. He wasn’t sure how long he’d be talking with Xing Xiangzhang. By half past eight, the pair arrived at the health clinic.

They asked a nurse where Changjiang and his wife were staying, then led Ga Zi over.

Before entering the room, they heard Yu Guiying’s low voice.

”I definitely have to go to the police station today and then go home. You push me there. If you don’t go, I’ll go myself.”

”Alright, I’ll push you.”

Yu Guiying was worried about her daughter. Ga Zi was already grown, not likely to starve, but Daya was only a year old.

Li Yungui coughed once and then pushed the door open.

”Mom, mom.” Ga Zi rushed in, looked at his mom, and started crying.

”Ga Zi, why are you here? Where’s your sister?”
