Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 715: 715 Full Moon照

They arrived in the city at half-past nine in the morning. Instead of driving to the photo studio, they drove to Old Yang’s house.

Driving around in the city attracts too much attention. The watermelon was carried into the house, then Wei Kaiyun took the second son. Jiang Xinyu held Jiang Tingting while Shang Zhenkun looked after the three older ones, and the family headed to the photo studio.

”Dad, why are there so few people on the street?”

”Everyone must be working, I suppose that’s why.”

Indeed, there were very few people on the street. But this was normal; there was a group of radicals, and no one wanted trouble.

”Dad, I want to visit the bookstore,” Jiang Feifei asked Wei Kaiyun.

”No problem, let’s go after taking pictures, and we’re going to have lunch at a restaurant.”

The older three had memories of the restaurant meals, which were not as tasty as home-cooked food, so it didn’t seem novel to them.

Twenty minutes later, the family arrived at the photo studio, all sweaty from the walk. At the studio, Wei Kaiyun took out the voucher. There were also five pounds of national food tickets left.

”Comrade, we’d like to take photos. Two kids are one month old, and our family wants to take several pictures as well.”

This was an old gentleman who glanced at Wei Kaiyun. The last time this person came, he exchanged the voucher with him, and this time it was still five pounds of food tickets.

So the old gentleman nodded, ”Okay, the photos will be ready for collection in ten days.”

”Alright, thank you, sir.”

The family was sweaty, and Wei Kaiyun wiped sweat off the three little ones. They sat down to rest for a while.

First, they took individual photos of the two children. Jiang Xinyu dressed them up without wrapping them.

Just ordinary clothes, but children in clothes are always quite interesting.

The photographer took photos of both children and even took a group photo of the two.

Then it was a large family portrait, with the couple each holding a child. The two boys stood behind them, each stepping on a stool, while Shang Zhenkun hugged Jiang Feifei, seated between the couple.

After that, they took a group photo of the three children, then of the five children, with Jianbin holding Jiang Shixian and Shi Jing holding Jiang Tingting.

Jiang Xinyu adjusted them for a while, as the poses were always off.

However, the two little ones were particularly well-behaved today, without any tantrums.

Shang Zhenkun also took a photo holding the two little ones, and took a group photo with the three older ones.

Finally, the couple took a photo each holding a little one.

By the time they were done, it was already half-past eleven. They left a record of the number of photos, paid ten yuan, received a receipt, and agreed to come back in ten days to collect the photos.

Jiang Xinyu stayed in the inner room of the photo studio to feed the children and change their diapers.

”Let’s go eat.”

The family arrived at the restaurant, and today was a lucky day because they had white rice.

Everyone got a bowl, and they ordered stir-fried liver tips, fried mushrooms with meat, stir-fried black fungus with meat, and a dish of stir-fried dried tofu with meat. There was a bowl of egg soup and five two-grain steamed buns.

Every dish had meat in it. This meal cost eighteen yuan, which was more than half a month’s salary for a worker.

This changed the three children’s impression of the restaurant.

Wei Kaiyun let Jiang Xinyu eat first while he sat on the side with the two children.

Jiang Xinyu had only a bowl of rice, and after five minutes, she took over the children, letting her man have his meal.

After the family ate and rested for a while, the waitress didn’t come over to shoo them away. That’s how people are; if they think you can’t be messed with, they won’t bother you.

Wei Kaiyun worried that his wife might get tired and wanted to hold the two kids himself, but Jiang Xinyu refused. They each held one.

After returning home, the three children were especially curious about delivering watermelons to the co-op, so only Jiang Xinyu and the two little ones stayed home. The others wanted to go to the bookstore.

Wei Kaiyun took out a bamboo mat and sheets from the car for his wife, laid them down for her to rest, and they set off with the cart to go to the co-op.

The large, round watermelons looked quite conspicuous on the small cart.

With Li Yungui’s introduction letter in hand, even if the co-op didn’t want them, they wouldn’t make it difficult.

Even though the watermelons were personally grown on private land, the village provided protection, saying they were collectively owned. This way, there wouldn’t be any trouble.

At the co-op, they found the director and showed him the watermelon and the introduction letter.

Ten large watermelons were left behind. ”Your village dares to grow watermelons?”

”Director, even collective ownership is not allowed?”

”It should be allowed, but now there are unreasonable people. You should be careful, and if you have courage, bring at least ten more the day after tomorrow.”

Upon hearing this, Wei Kaiyun said, ”Director, leave me one; there are plenty in the village, and I’m thinking of also trying the county’s co-op.”

”Okay, your village’s bok choy sells well. These watermelons should sell well too. But if there are too many, you should think of other ways to sell them, or you can try selling them at factory gates.”

”Alright, thank you, Director.”

It seems it will be like selling bok choy, but the introduction letters are a hassle, requiring stamps from the township, county, city, and beyond.

Then Wei Kaiyun bought salt, candles, brown sugar, matches. He also bought pens for the three children. They didn’t want snacks as those made at home were tastier.

”You three go to the bookstore; I’ll return the cart home and come find you later.”

Wei Kaiyun wasn’t assured about his wife, so the group eventually returned home together.

Jiang Xinyu was sleeping, and since Wei Kaiyun had locked the door from outside, they didn’t need to knock.

Seeing that his wife was alright, the group pushed the cart again and went to the bookstore. After browsing, Feifei only chose a few books and was particularly disappointed.

Wei Kaiyun noticed the little girl’s low spirits and decided to cheer her up, ”Let me take you to the recycling station to have a look.”

”Dad, I’d like to go too.”

”Uncle Wei, I also want to go.”

”Okay, let’s all go. But it must be very dirty inside, so don’t complain.” However, Wei Kaiyun returned to the building and bought two packs of cigarettes.

The group didn’t return home and instead went directly to the scrap recycling station.

Wei Kaiyun handed two packs of cigarettes to the guard and let the three children go in to find books themselves.

They went to look for books with Master Shang following them, so Wei Kaiyun was at ease. He checked out the wood. There were indeed some good materials, and he picked them out. Then he chatted with the staff.

The three children stayed inside for more than an hour before coming out. Shang Zhenkun had already brought out two large bundles of newspapers and books. This time, they carried two more large bundles, each child holding a bundle of books.

The staff member was happily chatting with Wei Kaiyun, so they didn’t inspect, just weighed, and including the wood, it cost a total of two yuan and fifty cents. After loading them on the cart, the group headed home.

”After you rest at home, I’ll go to the grain station to buy some refined grains.”

The three children were dirty and unwilling to go to the grain station, so they all nodded. The happiest was Jiang Feifei, who indeed got something good.
