Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 702: 702 Learning

Jiang Xinyu thought to herself, ”Even if it’s boiled meatballs, there’s not much flavor.” But since it was a kind gesture from Sister-in-law Liu, she nodded.

Sister-in-law Liu sat on the edge of the bed, smiling at the two children.

”Xiao Jiang, you will definitely grow up to be pretty. You might not be as beautiful as Feifei, but you’ll certainly be prettier than other girls.”

”Her parents are quite good-looking, so she won’t be ugly.”

”Why didn’t I think about adopting a child back then? Otherwise, I wouldn’t be lonely now,” Sister-in-law Liu sighed.

”Haha, even if you wanted to adopt, your husband’s family wouldn’t have agreed, right?”

”True, they didn’t care for girls in the family, let alone an adopted child.

I’ll go back for Mid-Autumn Festival, at most for two days.”

Jiang Xinyu knew she was going to give holiday gifts and money to her mother-in-law.

It was their business, and Jiang Xinyu would definitely not meddle.

”We’ll make mooncakes then.”

”I don’t know how, but if you show me, I’ll do it.”

In Sister-in-law Liu’s eyes, Jiang Xinyu could do anything. Especially the milk-flavored twists she made were perfect. She’d never had such delicious twists before.

”Alright, I know how. We’ll make plenty and use homemade mooncakes for gifts.”

On the train, Wei Kaiyun talked to them about various things outside, broadening their horizons.

”Master Wei, Uncle Yang said that the wheat during the famine year was brought back by Teacher Jiang?”

”Yes, your Teacher Jiang went to Russia three times.”

”Can Teacher Jiang speak their language?”

”Not well, but she can understand.”

”Wasn’t our Teacher Jiang quite young then?”

”She was. I was really worried but couldn’t do much. Every day was full of anxiety.”

”Our Teacher Jiang is indeed impressive, a college graduate.”

”Yes, I offered her a spot, but she turned it down to take the exam herself. You wouldn’t believe how, back then, your Teacher Jiang would come home from work and be engrossed in her books.”

”I truly admire Teacher Jiang.”

”There’s hardly anyone who can compare to her,” Wei Kaiyun sighed, grateful for his foresight. He felt he had accumulated a lifetime of good fortune by finding a wonderful wife.

”Master Wei, if things get cleared up, will your family leave?” Chaoyang asked.

Wei Kaiyun was intrigued; there must be some news. Otherwise, Chaoyang wouldn’t ask like this.

He replied nonchalantly, ”We won’t leave. Your Teacher Jiang and I have discussed living here for a few years. She intends to leave once everything settles down.”

”Master Wei, will it really settle down?”

”Of course. You two should be confident. Society and humanity are progressing continuously. Most people are just confused right now.”

”Really?”

”Yes, absolutely. If you want to succeed, don’t give up on learning. Even if it takes ten or twenty years, keep at it.”

”I will. Having Teacher Jiang in the village has benefited us greatly. I will study hard,” Chaoyang said determinedly.

”I will too. Before, there was no one to teach us, but now we have Teacher Jiang. We definitely won’t miss this opportunity.”

”Good, having ideals is great. Keep working hard; the future world belongs to you young people.”

Through a few days of conversation, they began to have a vague sense of direction for their future.

”Master Wei, you’re the director. Aren’t you going back to continue being director?”

Wei Kaiyun shook his head. ”Actually, before any issues arose, I was already thinking of resigning. It’s just that the higher-ups didn’t approve. After being busy for so many years, I’m taking this chance to rest and spend time with Shi Jing and the others since they’re still young.”

The two were deeply impressed with Wei Kaiyun. Not everyone can easily let go of power.

”We’ll arrive tomorrow night. I’ll give you just one day. I’ll talk with the engineer and see how well you two can grasp it.”

”Yes, Master Wei, we will make the most of it.”

This was their opportunity; if they didn’t seize it, it would be their own fault.

When they got off the train, it was 3 AM.

”We won’t go anywhere, just stay in the waiting lounge. You two sleep; I’ll keep watch.”

”Master Wei.”

Wei Kaiyun waved his hand, knowing young people need more sleep. Moreover, he wasn’t comfortable leaving them alone.

The three stayed in the waiting lounge until 6:30 when Wei Kaiyun woke them up, ”Go freshen up, and I’ll go in a while. After breakfast, we’ll head to the tractor factory.”

By 7:30, Wei Kaiyun led them into the tractor factory to find the director.

”Mr. Wei?”

”Director Zhao, I’m here to pick up another tractor.”

”Sure, there’s one ready. It’s for H Province; I’ll squeeze one out for you first.”

”Thanks, Director Zhao. Also, about the diesel, I’d appreciate your help.”

”No problem at all. When do you plan to leave?”

”Tomorrow. I’d like my two apprentices to learn maintenance with the factory’s masters today. After all, they’re young and learn fast; they’ll be able to repair any issues in the future.”

”Alright, that’s no problem. I’ll arrange for your stay.”

”Thank you, Director Zhao. I’ll pay first; otherwise, I won’t sleep well.”

The two laughed, then arranged for their accommodation. Wei Kaiyun took them to find Mr. Xu.

The three took a break only during lunch; the rest of the day was spent learning, making the two more familiar with tractors and how to repair common issues.

”Master Wei, we should take more spare parts that tend to break.”

”Good thinking, you two are thorough.”

During dinner with Mr. Xu, ”Xiao Wei, I’ve further improved the seeder machine. The new product is better than before; take one back.”

”Great, thank you, Mr. Xu.”

Xu Wenshan waved his hand, ”The higher-ups have already rewarded it. Although there’s no material reward, there is a certificate. Take it back; it’ll be beneficial for you in the future, along with a commendation letter.”

”Thanks, Mr. Xu, I really need this.”

Chaoyang and Xiang Dong admired Wei Kaiyun even more, determined to learn more from him in the future.

At night, the three lay in the dormitory. Although it was summer and hot, it was still better than cold.

”Master Wei, are we leaving tomorrow morning?”

”Yes, the diesel arrived today. We’ll set off bright and early tomorrow; the journey will be tough.”

”I don’t mind—just let me drive the tractor.”

”Haha, I’ll let you drive to your heart’s content.”

”Master Wei, is the money enough? We still need to take the seeder back.”

”I brought extra money; don’t worry.”

The two felt touched. If there wasn’t enough money, they wouldn’t be able to bring back the new seeder.
