Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 710: 710 left behind

Huang Ying walked straight into the fenced yard. She knew it was safe here, and with that thought, she felt completely drained of energy, collapsing directly to the ground.

All the tension, fear, and exhaustion flooded in at that moment.

She didn’t even have the strength to speak. She lay directly at the doorstep, waiting for that man to find her.

Li Chenggong had already lain down; working during the day was still very tiring. But before he fell asleep, he heard some noise in the yard. Thinking it might be a small animal, he didn’t pay much attention.

But his hearing was exceptionally sharp, and after a while, he could still hear moaning from the yard.

Moaning? And it was a woman’s voice?

Li Chenggong sat up abruptly, picked up the hatchet from the head of the bed, and carefully walked out.

At this time, there was still a large moon in the sky, so he could clearly see someone lying at his doorstep.

Li Chenggong approached Huang Ying with the hatchet in hand and nudged the person on the ground with his toe.

”Who?”

At this point, Huang Ying was already delirious with fever. She just moved a bit and moaned; everything hurt too much, her whole body ached, and she felt her throat was so sore she couldn’t speak.

Li Chenggong saw the woman on the ground move and knew she was alive. He immediately squatted down to help her up, but as soon as he touched her, he realized she had a fever.

”Can you hear me?”

Huang Ying had already lost consciousness. From being reborn, to killing those five beasts, to running away and reaching here, her nerves had been constantly on edge.

Once she reached here and relaxed, she couldn’t hold on and immediately developed a fever.

Li Chenggong saw the woman on the ground in such a sorry state and quickly picked her up. So light?

He hurriedly carried her into the house and laid her on the bed, knowing she had a fever, and quickly began brewing some medicine for her.

Huang Ying chose Li Chenggong because he was knowledgeable in medicine and highly respected in this small village of just over fifty people.

Li Chenggong brewed the medicine and propped up Huang Ying, seeing that she could swallow, he felt more at ease.

After feeding her the medicine, he wiped her face clean with fresh water. This girl was quite pretty, though too thin.

After an hour, Huang Ying still hadn’t recovered from the fever and was already talking nonsense, though he couldn’t clearly hear what she was saying, but he knew she was very angry, aggrieved, and scared.

Li Chenggong gave her another dose of medicine, staying by her until the latter half of the night when she finally settled down.

She began to sweat, and seeing her discomfort, Li Chenggong tended to her throughout the night.

By dawn, Huang Ying finally calmed down and slept deeply.

Li Chenggong immediately made porridge, grabbing a handful of rice, which was harvested from his own drought-resistant crop. Normally, he wouldn’t even bear to eat it. Patients need nourishment; he cooked it till it was soft and yielded rice oil, which was nutritious.

There was finally a thick bowl of rice porridge. Li Chenggong brought it to the bedside and woke Huang Ying.

”Miss, get up and have some porridge. You’ll recover faster if you eat well.”

Huang Ying hurriedly opened her eyes to look at Li Chenggong.

Seeing the young girl staring blankly at him.

”Miss?”

Huang Ying took a while to register that she was safe and had finally reached this idyllic place.

Tears flowed like a broken string of pearls, filled with relief and liberation.

She sobbingly took the bowl, and seeing the rice porridge made her cry even harder.

Li Chenggong was frightened. What was going on?

Before he could say anything, the young girl began gulping down the porridge, though her tears didn’t stop.

”Eat slowly, it’s still hot.”

After seeing the young girl finish her meal, he took the bowl and used it to serve himself a bowl of mixed grain porridge. He also finished it in a few bites.

”Even though you’ve recovered from the fever, your body is still weak. I’m going to work now, you just rest.”

Watching the tall figure, Huang Ying’s face brightened into a smile.

But since the tense emotions had eased, she soon fell asleep again.

Li Chenggong did not go directly to the fields but went to the village chief’s house instead.

”Uncle San, a girl came to my house last night.”

”What?”

”I said a girl came, but she had a fever last night. Although it’s gone, she’s still resting at my house.”

”How did an outsider come in?”

”I don’t know, but she’s just a frail girl.”

”Hmm, later, when she’s better, you can ask her. It’s not usual for outsiders to come here.”

”Okay, I understand. I’ll go to work now.”

Li Chenggong went to work in the millet fields. This was when crops were growing, and there were a lot of birds in the mountains. So, he had to keep watch. The net was set up today, so he wouldn’t need to come by later to keep an eye on it.

Seeing many sparrows caught in the net, he picked them. They could be eaten for lunch today.

It didn’t take him all morning to set up the net; thinking of how light the girl he carried yesterday was, he walked into the mountains a bit and caught two rabbits.

Upon returning home, he saw the girl drying clothes.

Li Chenggong was pleased, ”Miss, are you feeling better?”

”Yes, thank you.”

”No problem, I’ll make lunch, you should rest.”

Yesterday, the girl looked so disheveled. Now that she was clean and changed, she looked quite pretty.

Li Chenggong was very quick; he dealt with the two rabbits efficiently, tossing the rabbit skins into the pit under the board – they were curing the skins.

Lunch was stewed rabbit meat with flatbread. Huang Ying hadn’t had a proper meal in a long time, and this stewed rabbit meat was particularly fragrant, so she couldn’t help but eat a lot.

”This is delicious.”

”Haha, as long as you enjoy it,” Li Chenggong was happy to see Huang Ying eating so well.

After lunch, Huang Ying helped clean the table; for a man living alone, his house was still very clean.

”Comrade, don’t you want to ask something?”

”If you want to tell, you can tell.” Meaning he wouldn’t ask if she didn’t want to talk.

”Comrade, I escaped here by chance. Can I live here in the future?”

”Miss, since you mentioned it, let me ask, why did you run away?”

”Sorry, I can’t say. If you take me in, I’ll marry you. If you don’t, I’ll continue to drift.”

”Marry me?”

”Yes, thank you for saving me.”

Li Chenggong was a bit excited; there were only about fifty people in the village, and though there were young girls, there were more young men, which left many bachelors.

Although Xinghua from Li Er’s family liked him, if he had to compare Xinghua to this girl, he would still choose this girl.

”Miss, you don’t know the situation here, do you?” He didn’t want to deceive the young girl.

”I don’t know, but I need a safe place to live.”

”Miss, you’re from outside, can you endure the monotonous life here?”
