Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 705: 705 Rectification

All day long, Wei Kaiyun was absent-minded, just hoping to resolve the matter quickly.

In the evening, he played with his child, gazing at his adorable son, feeling soft-hearted to the extreme.

Early the next morning, Wei Kaiyun rode his bike carrying Li Yungui. The two arrived at the township, left the bicycle at the township government, and then took a bus to the city.

Honestly, Wei Kaiyun’s issue was really very easy to solve, it just needed a document from the higher-ups, along with a commendation letter and certificate, placed together in Wei Kaiyun’s file.

Consider it done; now Wei Kaiyun was a free man, no longer bearing the reputation of being relegated for making mistakes.

After finishing the task, Wei Kaiyun invited Li Yungui to a meal.

”Village Chief Li, don’t be modest, I’m happy.”

”Congratulations, Xiao Wei.”

”Thank you.”

”Xiao Wei, is your family planning to leave?”

”No, with things so chaotic now, our family will stay in the village for a few years.

Village Chief Li, to repay you, and the villagers for their kindness to our family, I’m thinking of starting a pesticide factory in our village next year.” This was discussed by the couple the day before.

”Really?”

”Yes, but at most we can just blend; many chemical medicines still need to be purchased, we can’t produce them ourselves.

We’ll take it slow, and try things out next summer.

I’ll go out for inspections after the fall. By then, we’ll be operating under our village’s name, and everyone’s life will become much better.

Yet, this isn’t a long-lasting solution, since all these chemicals are toxic and aren’t good for our health.”

”As long as there’s no danger to life and money can be made, nobody will mind.”

After finishing their meal, they went to catch a bus.

Returning home before sunset, Li Yungui directly rang the bell, and the village folks gathered at the brigade headquarters.

”Let me tell everyone, Comrade Wei Kaiyun has been vindicated, from now on, his family will live in our village.

Everyone knows the contributions Xiao Wei has made to our village.

We should all thank him. More benefits await us in the future.”

The villagers congratulated Wei Kaiyun.

”Thank you all, in the village, I have felt your kindness, sensed the goodwill toward our family, and so I am deeply grateful to everyone.”

”Mr. Wei, you and Teacher Jiang have given us so many benefits. Without your loan, we couldn’t have bought the tractor, let alone the rototiller and seeder. And thanks to your herbicide, this year we didn’t suffer, even the newly cleared lands had almost no weeds. In ordinary years, we wouldn’t have been able to finish weeding,” Li Yunqiang exclaimed excitedly.

Wei Kaiyun smiled and declined, saying it was to repay everyone.

Wei Kaiyun felt genuinely relieved. He felt no pressure at all.

Jiang Xinyu was, of course, happy for him. Now their family was upright and honorable here.

Life continued. Every day Wei Kaiyun worked in the fields, meticulously caring for the cotton.

Li Yungui also often came over to check; Wei Kaiyun told him the cotton was a new variety they were experimenting with, and if it yielded well, the village could plant it next year.

Thus, Li Yungui sent his son and nephew to help daily, as cotton is quite troublesome and requires pinching the buds.

Chaoyang and Xiang Dong were also willing to come. Being with Wei Kaiyun, they learned a lot.

The family didn’t expect their work points, but Wei Kaiyun wouldn’t let them help for free. He provided them with some useful items, albeit not edible.

Relationships are like this; mutual contribution can sustain them long term.

”Master Wei, the mustard greens in the field are quite big, it’s time to thin them out. My mom says we need to start thinning them tomorrow.”

”Chaoyang, let your father issue a letter of proof, then you can send the mustard greens to the supply-and-marketing cooperative in the county or city to sell. Our village doesn’t lack vegetables now; selling them for money would be great. Besides, we have a tractor and don’t worry about transportation.”

”That’s right, Uncle Wei, I’ll go find my dad now.” Chaoyang dropped the bucket and ran off.

Xiang Dong continued watering the watermelons. ”Uncle Wei, are these watermelons ready yet?”

”Almost, Feifei is waiting to eat watermelons.”

”Uncle Wei, are these watermelons also to be sold?”

”We’ll keep some at home, sell the rest, and see how long they can be stored in the cellar this year.”

”Where will the watermelons be sold?”

”To be safe, just ask at the supply-and-marketing cooperative.”

”True, it’s risky to go to the city now,” Xiang Dong muttered. A few days ago, he and Chaoyang went to the city to buy books but were stopped and questioned for a long time, making them frustrated. None of them seemed to be serious about studying, working, and daily indulging in useless things.

The ones who should be arrested are them; the two did not manage to buy books and came back annoyed.

”Things will be better in the future. I’ve called Mr. Xu to help you find books.”

”Thank you, Uncle Wei.”

”It’s nothing. As long as you want to learn, the couple will surely help.”

”Uncle Wei, tell Teacher Jiang that you can trust us. We definitely won’t give up halfway.”

”That’s the spirit; young people should be like that.”

Wei Kaiyun was very gratified, seeing the drive in the two youngsters. This is indeed very valuable.

Being able to forge ahead in adversity is absolutely worth supporting.

In just over ten minutes, Chaoyang and Li Yungui came over together.

”Xiao Wei, Chaoyang didn’t explain clearly. Are we going to sell the mustard greens?”

”Village Chief Li, there are too many mustard greens, we can’t eat them all. It’s better to transport them to the county or city to sell. Even if the supply-and-marketing cooperative doesn’t accept them, since it’s a collective matter, we can set up our own stall; that should be fine, right?”

”I don’t know about that.”

”There’s a regulation against private profiteering, but this isn’t personal; it’s a village, brigade, collective action. You issue the letter, let the township, county, city stamp it, and we should be fine.”

”Where to get the stamps, township, county, sure, but what about the city?”

”Just go to the Revolutionary Committee. Village Chief Li, you should cycle over to handle it; it should be done today.”

”Alright, I’m off now.” Li Yungui left eagerly.

Once the proof is done, inform Li Yunqiang to organize people to thin the mustard greens.

It’s a good thing; villagers hardly see money all year round. Selling mustard greens, even if there’s no distribution, at least repays debts. Being debt-free feels great.

The whole village mobilized, even the children helped stack the greens neatly.

The elderly were tasked with tying them into small bundles for easier sale. But the weather was too hot, the mustard greens wilted a bit, and Li Yunqiang decided to rinse them with clear water so they looked clean.
