Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 704: 704 arrives home

Wei Kaiyun saw off the two young men and hurried to take a bath. It had been quite uncomfortable these past few days. He entered the room all steamed up and saw his wife changing the baby’s diaper.

”Wife, let me do it.”

”Okay. I’ll feed Shi Xian first; you wash Tingting. This little girl is fussy; if you don’t wash her, she’ll keep moving around.”

Wei Kaiyun skillfully washed the baby clean, changed to a fresh diaper, and placed the child next to his wife.

He also sat beside his wife watching their son eat contentedly, a happy smile on his face.

”Did you gain such big returns this time?”

”When I was buying straw hats in town, I happened to catch the black market.

If I hadn’t been in a rush, it could have been cheaper.”

”Hehe, there really are good things here. Let’s take the family out to have a look next time we have a chance.”

”Sure, why don’t you come with me to see the leaders?”

”We can discuss that later; it’s not certain yet.”

”Wife, look at this. It’s a commendation letter for me, a certificate. My situation is actually quite simple.”

”You should actually ask Li Yungui if it can be done now. After the autumn harvest, you might be able to go.”

”Okay, I’ll ask Li Yungui tomorrow. I don’t think there will be any problems. This time I even met the most prominent person from our village in the city, and they should be quite pleased with me.”

”Then let’s hurry up.”

After Jiang Xinyu finished feeding her son, Wei Kaiyun embraced her and kissed her for a while, ”Wife, I missed you and the children. I can’t live without you all.”

”Hmm, I missed you too, and the children missed you.”

The little girl was ignored and started to whimper because she was hungry. Wei Kaiyun looked at her dejectedly, feeling she was interrupting.

Jiang Xinyu laughed as she picked up the little girl to feed her from the other side.

”You sleep with your son.”

Wei Kaiyun lay beside the sleeping second son, ”The rash on the child has faded, and he’s quite fair-skinned.”

”Yes, his eyes look even better now. I feel they are full of spirit.”

”Of course, our son is handsome,” Wei Kaiyun said proudly.

”Look at you, so self-satisfied.”

”I’m telling the truth. Among all the kids, who could be better looking than our Shi Jing and Feifei?”

”Enough, don’t boast. Let’s sleep.”

The next day, when the three children saw Wei Kaiyun, they excitedly gathered around him.

”Dad, our watermelons have grown much bigger. Master Shang said we can eat watermelons by the end of the month,” Shi Jing proudly held Wei Kaiyun’s hand and said.

”Great, the first watermelon in our family will definitely be for you three to eat.”

”Awesome, Dad, I almost forgot what watermelon tastes like,” Shi Jing said, smacking his lips.

”I also forgot what watermelon tastes like,” Jianbin chimed in.

Wei Kaiyun watched his daughter smiling with her lips pursed, released his son’s hand, bent down to pick up his daughter, and kissed her cheek, ”Daughter, did you miss Dad?”

”Yes, I did. Dad must have suffered; you look thinner and more tan.”

”Hehe. I didn’t suffer. Dad’s a man, not afraid of hard work.”

When Master Shang approached, the three children rushed over to practice their skills.

Wei Kaiyun grabbed a hoe and went to the fields. Looking at the large area of watermelons, he felt a sense of achievement that made him happier than being named a model worker.

The watermelons had really grown a lot; the cotton had also improved significantly and seemed ready to bloom in mid-month.

This patch of cotton was an experimental field. If it yielded high quantities, the village could plant more next year.

After making a round, he returned home with a hoe on his shoulder at seven o’clock for breakfast.

With the man back home, it felt like having a backbone. Jiang Xinyu felt much more settled with him around.

After breakfast, before Wei Kaiyun headed to the fields, Li Yungui arrived.

”Xiao Wei, shall we go to the brigade office for a bit?”

”Sure, I also have something to discuss with Village Chief Li.”

The two arrived at the brigade office where several village leaders were present.

”Xiao Wei, please sit down. You’ve really worked hard.”

”It’s nothing, really. There’s nothing strenuous about it.”

”What do you mean nothing strenuous? Those two young rascals are still asleep and haven’t woken up yet.”

”Young people sleep more.”

”Xiao Wei, I saw another new seeder was brought in?”

”Yes, Mr. Xu said he improved it further, no problem with sowing wheat.”

”You paid for this, right?”

”Yes, I thought there must be some good things to bring back, and it turns out there were.”

”Haha, Xiao Wei still has foresight.”

”It’s not about foresight, this way we can save a lot of work.”

”Exactly, when the cabbages are harvested, we can try sowing wheat with the seeder.”

”We should start a few days early so that when we begin sowing wheat on a large scale, we can see the effect. If it works, we could save effort and perhaps even other villages will hire us to sow their fields, which means more income.”

Once Li Yunqiang said this, everyone was happy. Isn’t this reasoning sound?

”Xiao Wei, the money will be returned to you after the autumn harvest.”

”Alright, I’m not in a hurry to spend it.”

Li Yungui waited for Wei Kaiyun to speak up, but he kept sidestepping the conversation, making it clear he wanted to discuss something privately.

”Xiao Wei, shall we drop by my house for a bit?”

”Sure.”

The two arrived at Li Yungui’s home, and Wei Kaiyun got straight to the point, ”Village Chief Li, I’d like to apply for rehabilitation.”

”No problem. You’ve contributed so much to the village, and honestly, there’s nothing wrong on your record; it just says you supported national construction.

If there were really an issue, we wouldn’t have the authority to rehabilitate you, but your situation is different, and we can definitely clear your name here.”

”Thank you, Village Chief Li. What do I need to do?

I also have commendation letters and certificates from higher-ups; will that help?”

”They will definitely help. We aren’t busy for now, so let’s focus on this. We’ll go to the city tomorrow.”

”Thank you, Village Chief Li.”

”No need to be so polite. It’s not like I’m heartless; I know what needs to be done.”

After receiving the definite news, Wei Kaiyun felt a bit excited. Carrying the label of being sent down made him feel he was disgracing his wife and children, but now he could finally hold his head high.

Wei Kaiyun walked home briskly and saw his wife making clothes for the children. He climbed onto the kang and embraced her.

”Be careful, I’m holding a needle.”

”Wife, I’m so happy.”

”What has made you so happy?”

”I’m going to the city tomorrow with Li Yungui to handle the rehabilitation.

Their records never convicted me; it was just for rural support. So my case is quite straightforward.”

”Congratulations, the burden weighing on you is finally going to be removed.”

”Wife, I can finally show my face openly.”

”Yes, you’re about to be free.”

The couple sat on the kang, chatting endlessly about the possibilities.

Jiang Xinyu could tell that Wei Kaiyun was very happy. Indeed, carrying the reputation of being sent down would affect anyone’s mood and certainly add pressure.
