Global Awakening: I'm the Only One Ready

Chapter 86. Deep Into Qinling, an Unfettered Realm Mutated Beast, That’s It? (2)

Indeed, those present relaxed upon hearing Commander Xu’s words.

Still, ten mutated beast kings were terrifying enemies to defend against.

”Since a beast tide is led by the mutated beast kings, we just have to fight those beast kings. If possible, it’d be great if we somehow managed to kill them. Once they are dead, the beast tide will lose its threat by then.”

Chang’an’s Defense Forces had clearly done extensive research, and it was proven by how they directly addressed the root of the beast tide.

Everyone present strongly agreed with their plan, but they remained uneasy.

Eventually, Little Liu introduced the mutated beast kings in question. He revealed a photo depicting a leopard and tiger-like beast wreathed in flames. It had clearly awakened a special bloodline, bestowing upon it control over flames capable of melting steel beams.

The mutated beast king was aptly named, ”Tiger-Leopard King.”

Little Liu pointed to a large red dot on the screen. A huge circle surrounded the dot representing the Tiger-Leopard King; the circle indicated its territory.

Unfortunately, the Tiger-Leopard King was just the first mutated beast king; there were nine more of them out there.

However, no photos of the remaining nine were revealed, and information about some of them was so scarce that it was limited only to their appearances. Of course, there was one thing in common—every single one of them was formidable both on the ground and in the skies.

If there were just one of them, these people wouldn’t be so anxious. However, there were a whopping ten of them! Clearly, the upcoming beast tide was far more dangerous than any other beast tides so far.

Many nations had suffered heavy losses from such formidable beast tides, resulting in a myriad of casualties. Could it be that it was their turn to suffer such a tragedy?

”Mutated beasts comparable to an Unfettered Realm expert are just too strong for us to handle. An Unfettered Realm beast is already stronger than a human of the same rank,” someone commented.

”We’ll have no choice but to use weapons of mass destruction against them. Otherwise, we will never be their match.”

”Even if we do that, the city’s defense forces don’t have the firepower to kill all ten mutated beast kings,” someone chimed in.

Everyone’s face became solemn, realizing that even a bombardment wouldn’t possibly kill every single one of those mutated beast kings at once.

Moreover, those beasts were bound to be intelligent. They wouldn’t just stand in place and allow themselves to be bombarded.

In the end, someone proposed talking to the higher-ups about using thermonuclear weapons. Without thermonuclear bombs, they believed it would be difficult to reach Chang’an.

Even if they were successful, the price to pay would be too expensive.

The idea was immediately opposed. Thermonuclear weapons were humanity’s last resort, and deploying them prematurely could enrage the entire mutated beast population, triggering a full-scale war.

The fates of some nations had already taught them that lesson. Hence, they planned on using such weapons only in the direst situations.

A heavy silence descended. Even the powerful, white-robed elders admitted that they could not fight a single beast king on their own; the gap in power was simply too vast.

The only thing they could do to defend the city was to support the city’s defense force against the beast tide, but even then, success was not guaranteed.

The pressure was immense. ”Beast King”—the title alone felt like a crushing weight.

Dean Zheng was silent as he stared at the large red dot representing the Tiger-Leopard King. All of a sudden, his face shifted from grim to utter shock as he cried out, ”Look! That beast king’s life signature... it’s fading away!”

Upon hearing that, everyone in the conference room looked up, and their eyes widened in an instant. Just as Dean Zheng had said, the large red dot was flickering.

The red dot represented the Tiger-Leopard King’s life signature, and it had become unstable for some reason.

Could the equipment be malfunctioning? Or had something killed the Tiger-Leopard King?

Everyone looked at each other in bewilderment.

While everyone in the conference room stewed in disbelief and confusion, a massive clearing was made somewhere in the depths of Qinling. At first glance, it was clear that a great battle had just occurred here.

Every giant tree and vine within a kilometer of the clearing had been reduced to mere ashes. Ravines crisscrossed everywhere, and in some places, the rocks emanated an ominous orange sheen as they melted away.

Mutated beast corpses were also strewn haphazardly across the clearing.

The mutated beast king that brought enormous pressure to Chang’an’s higher-ups and was named ”Tiger-Leopard King” was sprawled out on the ground. It was split into two and was bleeding profusely. It looked utterly miserable. Its flames had all disappeared, and it was barely clinging to life. Its eyes were wide in despair.

”I thought Unfettered Realm mutated beasts would be strong, but... that’s it?” Lu Yuan’s voice echoed as he appeared before the Tiger-Leopard King. He had a face full of dissatisfaction.

The heat wave earlier had come from this mutated beast king, so he immediately sought it out, and a battle ensued in short order. He’d thought it would be strong. After all, it looked intimidating. Who knew it would die in less than ten minutes?

I hadn’t even used my full strength!

”All right, for my stomach’s sake, just go ahead and rest in peace.”

Lu Yuan shook his head and stomped. The Tiger-Leopard King’s head shattered. He took out the Great Luo Sword Embryo, extracting the most essential flesh and blood from the mutated beast. Then, he started a fire to roast the flesh.

Soon, a strong but fragrant aroma of meat pervaded the air. Even though no seasoning was added, the aroma of the meat was still mouth-watering.

Lu Yuan took a bite and was satisfied. ”Not bad, not bad.”

He could feel power surging throughout him, nourishing his limbs and bones. Although the mutated beast king was weak, the quality of its meat was surprisingly good. It was much better than that Giant Wolf King.

”I should be deep inside Qinling by now. Given the commotion from the fight just now, ordinary mutated beasts won’t dare move against me. However, the same can’t be said for its fellow mutated beast kings.”

Lu Yuan ate as he pondered. Qinling had a myriad of mutated beasts, but there had to be only a few beast kings at the moment. However, the demise of a mutated beast king couldn’t possibly be hidden from a fellow beast king.

Of course, Lu Yuan hadn’t come here just to hunt mutated beasts; he wanted to find that flying beast that he considered to be a pretty good mount. Unfortunately, Qinling was too huge; finding it was like finding a needle in a haystack.

Lu Yuan felt helpless. Would he have to rely on his feet once again? No, Qinling was too massive for him to scour it all on foot. He needed someone to guide the way.

Boom!

A wave of powerful aura erupted from behind Lu Yuan, interrupting his train of thought.

”You killed one of my kind, human! For that, you must die!”
