Global Awakening: I'm the Only One Ready

”Hmm?”

Lu Yuan, however, paid no attention to the rippling shockwave his actions had caused. Instead, he sounded surprised as he focused on the barrier around the Southern Sovereign. He had only used twenty percent of his true power, but it was more than enough to crush even an Awakened Realm expert.

”How can this be?” The Southern Sovereign was profoundly shaken, his eyes going blank with terror. He felt as if he were facing a terrifying demon king, an entity that he absolutely couldn’t resist. Had it not been for the life-saving treasure gifted to him by his family, he knew he would have become a cold corpse just now.

Run! This single thought consumed the Southern Sovereign’s mind. The next moment, he vaulted to his feet and began fleeing desperately toward Chang’an.

The major forces and government officials had established strict rules, stating that battles between the Awakened were forbidden within supercities. Violators would have to face severe punishment, as it was the law!

”You can’t run.” A cold smile tugged at Lu Yuan’s lips as he began his pursuit. An indescribable wave of dread washed over the Southern Sovereign, making his skin stand on end. He knew he had to do something, or he would certainly die.

In desperation, he pulled out a red furnace from his chest pocket and hurled it behind him. The furnace was only the size of a fist, but after leaving his hand, it unleashed towering blue flames that spread in every direction.

These flames burned with such intensity that the air around them distorted. They were hot enough to melt steel beams in an instant.

”Mr. Lu, watch out!” the Ice Fairy unknowingly called out. ”That is an ancestral artifact of the Wang Family, the Enflamed[1] Flames Furnace! It’s an extremely dangerous artifact!”

The Five Supremes represented their major forces and were famous for more than just their formidable might. Each one had a life-saving trump card. The Ice Fairy knew that better than anyone, which was why she shouted to warn Lu Yuan.

However, Lu Yuan showed absolutely no concern whatsoever. He charged straight into the roaring conflagration and snatched the furnace out of midair.

The Primordial Qi Robe unleashed a barrier of light, shielding him from head to toe. The powerful flames burned fiercely around him, but he remained completely unharmed.

”You said this is an ancestral artifact? Why is it too weak?”

Lu Yuan stared at the Enflamed Flames Furnace with clear disdain in his eyes. He could tell it was decent and could certainly threaten an Awakened Realm expert.

However, it wasn’t enough to threaten him. Without another word, his five fingers gripped it tightly.

Crack!

The red furnace was crushed with a loud crack. Then, it cascaded down Lu Yuan’s hand as mere fragments. The towering flames vanished as if they had never appeared in the first place.

He crushed the Enflamed Flames Furnace with his bare hand? The crowd was left shocked once again. What a monster...

Without a moment’s delay, Lu Yuan resumed his pursuit. By now, however, the Southern Sovereign finally reached the gates of Chang’an, where reinforcements from the Longevity Genetics branch were waiting for him.

However, the reinforcements were too weak to be called reinforcements, but this was understandable, as the elites had died just mere moments ago.

A sigh escaped Lu Yuan. The Southern Sovereign’s strength was nothing much, but he was exceedingly talented at escaping.

However, could he truly escape?

”This is bad.”

The Ice Fairy’s heart jumped, realizing that Lu Yuan had no intention of letting his target go.

Upon stepping into Chang’an, the Southern Sovereign stopped running. His face twisted into a vicious sneer as he shouted, ”Lu Yuan, I’m inside Chang’an! If you dare to attack me, the government officials and the major forces will definitely punish you!”

The Southern Sovereign spoke smugly, threatening even, as his confidence was bolstered by the firm belief that Lu Yuan wouldn’t dare to attack him inside Chang’an.

”Cut the crap,” Lu Yuan remarked. The next moment, he appeared within the city’s boundaries. Then, he raised his foot and kicked the Southern Sovereign in the chest.

The Southern Sovereign was no match and was sent rolling across the ground. He tried to resist but found himself pinned by an immense, powerful pressure. It was like a massive mountain was pressing down on him.

He couldn’t even move his hands.

”Mr. Lu, stop it!”

”Mr. Lu, you mustn’t!”

The middle-aged man wearing a suit and Ice Fairy cried out in alarm.

Everything they had just witnessed made them certain that Polaris Biotech needed an expert like him. However, they knew with chilling certainty that if the Southern Sovereign were killed here, Longevity Genetics would use every means at their disposal to seek revenge.

Humanity’s greatest enemy in this current era were the mutated beasts; internal strife would only weaken humanity. Most importantly, killing the Southern Sovereign meant Lu Yuan would be violating the laws concerning the Awakened!

”What I dislike the most is being threatened,” Lu Yuan said, ignoring their pleas. ”Longevity Genetics has provoked me three times now. I’m here to collect some interest.”

With that, he pressed down lightly with his foot.

Crack!

The Southern Sovereign’s chest cracked open, and his blood scattered into the air. Even with his special bloodline, he couldn’t withstand such a tremendous force coming from Lu Yuan’s foot. He struggled briefly, but his head ultimately tilted to the side. Before long, his aura vanished, telling everyone that he was dead.

The shocking scene had unfolded before the eyes of everyone present.

The Southern Sovereign was dead. He was one of the Five Supremes and the eldest son of the head of the Wang Family. Despite his grand status and authority, he was killed so easily.

And he died inside Chang’an, which was under the laws of the nation.

A profound and complete silence descended. No one spoke; everyone was rendered utterly silent by the sheer audacity of Lu Yuan’s decision. Everyone present had many different thoughts going through their head, but they all agreed with one thing—there would soon be trouble, and it would be a major one at that.

”Domineering, oppressive, and wild... he’s utterly wild!” the high-level executive from Polaris Biotech muttered to himself.

In the eyes of every spectator, Lu Yuan was a wild demon king. He was the type to ignore all laws, rules, and regulations. He couldn’t care less about what trouble his actions could bring, and he moved only according to his free will.

Ignoring their reactions, Lu Yuan turned his oppressive gaze on the other members of Longevity Genetics. They all retreated as one with fear etched on their faces upon being subjected to Lu Yuan’s cold gaze.

Fight? Avenge the young master? How could they do that? That would be completely suicidal!

”Tell the Wang Family that I merely collected some interest. In the future, I’ll surely visit them. Now, get lost!”

Lu Yuan’s words were cold and final. Both sides were already locked in a fight to the death, so there was no longer any need for courtesy. Besides, he had already expected this outcome and had fabricated plans concerning it.

As for the terrified people before him, they were mere rabble, not worthy of his concern. Once the Wang Family was destroyed, their people would scatter on their own. Of course, if any among them harbored thoughts of defiance, Lu Yuan would instantly deal with them.

He was no saint and would never hesitate to make a move.

The brand-new era’s fundamental law was the survival of the fittest, and strength reigned supreme here. If he were weak, their roles would undoubtedly be reversed.

The remaining people from Longevity Genetics exchanged terrified glances, and then they scattered in all directions. They knew that staying here meant certain death. Besides, they couldn’t even say for sure if they would stay with Longevity Genetics after this incident, so why would they sacrifice their lives for it now?

Once the people from Longevity Genetics were no longer around, Lu Yuan glanced at the Southern Sovereign’s corpse and retracted his overwhelming aura until he seemed like an ordinary person.

He then looked at the middle-aged man and the Ice Fairy from Polaris Biotech.

”You two, what were you trying to say earlier?” he asked, smiling faintly.

The Ice Fairy and the middle-aged man exchanged glances. The Southern Sovereign was already dead. What could they even say? Moreover, Lu Yuan’s declaration was an undeniable declaration of war against Longevity Genetics.

Where was his confidence coming from? This was the reigning question in their hearts, but they immediately realized that Lu Yuan’s overwhelming strength had to be the source of his self-confidence.

With that in mind, the Ice Fairy opened her mouth to speak, but she sensed something that made her turn her head toward the city.

Lu Yuan also turned and saw Dean Zheng Wenyuan of the Aurora Academy. A group of people in military uniforms accompanied him. They were from the military, and they represented the authority of the government officials.

1. Original is 离火炉. It was extremely hard to translate 离火 as it refers to a concept from the I Ching (Book of Changes). ”Li” (离) is one of the eight trigrams (Bagua) and symbolizes fire, brightness, and clarity. But it isn’t just regular fire. It is often interpreted as an intense, transcendent flame, one that burns with spiritual force. I think the word ”enflamed” captures the overwhelming and consuming quality of such a flame, so I decided to use enflamed ☜
