Global Awakening: I'm the Only One Ready

Indeed, Awakened were far stronger than the common folk. They gained extraordinary powers and an enhanced physique. The stronger ones could even resist bullets with their fleshly bodies and not sustain a single scratch.

But that was all there was to it. As a member of Longevity Genetics, Wang Tao held that much understanding as well. Ordinary grenades and bullets might not suffice, but what of heavy thermal weapons?

Field tests had been conducted. Even his elder brother, with an incomparably strong bloodline, could do nothing against the heavy firepower.

This was the reason why, despite the increasing number of Awakened, they still bent their knees to the major powers and the official authorities.

Without sufficient firepower and heavy weapons, under certain circumstances, annihilating an entire legion of Awakened was as easy as a piece of cake.

Even now, with mutated beasts running rampant, it was still the official military that kept them in check. Just like the destructive might of that sword earlier, heavy weapons could achieve the same.

Of course, no matter how stupid a person was, they wouldn’t simply stand still when attacked.

As such, Wang Tao had a plan: to set his ambush in advance and strike Lu Yuan by surprise.

Sure, he couldn’t do anything against that sword. But he truly believed that with appropriate arrangements, he could greatly increase the chances of slaying Lu Yuan on the spot. And if all else failed, he could rush for the helicopter and make a safe escape.

He hadn’t entered the Mausoleum. Neither was he going to leave. He was planning to spend these few days making his preparations.

”Enough. If there’s nothing else, you can head back first. As for this, don’t you dare tell my brother,” Wang Tao turned and said to the old man. ”You serve my brother, yes, but don’t forget that you also serve the Wang Family.”

Wang Tao believed with all his heart that as long as he seized the sword, it would greatly elevate his standing within the family. Thus, this matter must be kept hushed and under the carpet, at least for the time being.

”Second Young Master, what are you saying? If you aren’t leaving, naturally, I’m staying with you,” the old man said with a smile.

At the same time, his heart stirred in shock. He hadn’t anticipated that the Second Madam would fully support her son to the extent of mobilizing heavy weapons. Of course, he believed that the Second Madam would have informed the family head in advance. In such a situation, it was best for him to tread cautiously.

After all, this was a power struggle between the First Madam and Second Madam. He was but an outsider. Should he offend either party, the family’s internal resources would then be out of his reach in the future.

More importantly, he held another thought deep in his heart. Perhaps, he could lend some support to the Second Young Master. After all, if he truly got his hands on the sword, then the power gulf between the First and Second Young Master would instantly be narrowed.

It was akin to placing an egg in both baskets. Everything said, the final heir of the Longevity Genetics could only be one of the two.

With this train of thought in mind, the old man added, ”Second Young Master, if you require any assistance, I will gladly be of help.”

”Oh?” Wang Tao was slightly taken aback.

The old man was no simple figure. Within Longevity Genetics, he was considered one of the experts, his strength at Foundation Realm VII.

Coupled with himself at the sixth-tier, and bolstered by heavy weapons, Wang Tao believed that there was a higher chance of killing Lu Yuan and seizing the divine sword.

”Great. I understand your intent. If we succeed this time, I won’t hold back on your rewards,” Wang Tao replied with a nod.

He then unlocked his phone and sent out a few messages.

Not long after, squads clad in combat uniforms appeared. With rifles in hand and armed to the teeth, they went into hiding in the vicinity.

High-caliber blackened barrels were locked onto the mausoleum gateway. Some of the men even possessed powerful explosives.

Overhead, planes outfitted with snipers circled from a distance.

There were even those armed with grenade launchers, heavy machine guns, and more. All of them lay in ambush in the surrounding mountains and woods.

All combined, they were equivalent to a small-scale army. More importantly, these people, armed with heavy weapons, were also Awakened. They were one of the ace teams of Longevity Genetics.

Now, everything was ready. They just had to wait for the target to appear, and they would strike as one.

True to the word, the Second Madam really went all out in supporting her son.

Even for the Longevity Genetics, deploying manpower of such extent was a ruthless move. To achieve this, they would even have to make the necessary arrangements to evade the eyes of the authorities and the Aurora Academy. Else, once discovered, it would be troublesome to justify their mobilization.

”Come out quickly, Lu Yuan. I can’t wait any longer,” Wang Tao whispered. A cruel smile spread across his face as he fixed his gaze upon the Mausoleum gateway.

Meanwhile, on the other side, Polaris Biotech’s forces led by the Ice Fairy were preparing to depart.

”Is Mr. Lu not out yet?” the Ice Fairy asked as she watched her men doing the final wrap-up.

Among the Five Supremes, she was the only one who had not left. Her original intention was to wait for Lu Yuan. He was a talent and she wanted to recruit him into Polaris Biotech.

”No,” a subordinate standing next to her replied. ”The higher-ups are urging you to return.”

”Are things that urgent?” The Ice Fairy was slightly surprised. ”Did something happen outside during those few days I was in the Mausoleum?”

”Yes,” the man replied. ”Mutated beasts across the land are growing restless. Beast tides have struck several places. Shuntian City was attacked two days ago. The tide is led by a giant serpent that had mutated into a flood dragon. It was so terrifyingly strong that they eventually resorted to using missiles, but was only able to make the beast tide retreat temporarily.

”The same thing is also happening in Shu Region, the Snow Region and other areas. Now, the various powers are working together with the Aurora Academy to relocate more people into the supercities.

”Also, the higher-ups predict that the same threat might soon strike Chang’an. They detected unusual movements in Qinling.”

The subordinate gave his report, and among all the incidents, the most dire were the relentless city sieges launched by mutated beasts. Humanity was being pushed into a perilous state, as their greatest enemies—the mutated beasts—grew increasingly restless.

”I see... it seems like we can’t delay things further here.” The Ice Fairy let out a sigh, her visage tinged with worry.

Polaris Biotech maintained close ties with Aurora Academy; they were considered allies. Being backed by the authorities, this was the reason Polaris Biotech had been able to establish itself in Shuntian City. Both shared the same ultimate goal: to stabilize the nation in these chaotic times. Though, few knew of their relationship.

Looking at the recent progress of events, she knew it was inevitable for humanity and the mutated beasts to clash in a full-scale war.

As such, she needed to enhance her strength.

Nearly all of the Five Supremes had reached Foundation Realm IX. Their next step was none other than the Awakened Realm.

The Northern Emperor, the Southern Sovereign, and the others had departed so quickly for this very reason—to complete their breakthroughs in the shortest time possible.

The Ice Fairy understood that she also had to keep up with them to not shake the balance among the great powers.

”Alright, let’s head back. But remember to have someone stay behind. If there’s a chance, try to get in contact with Mr. Lu. Convey him the message that Polaris Biotech genuinely wishes to work with him. We can even help him resolve some unnecessary troubles,” the Ice Fairy instructed. Clearly, she regarded Lu Yuan with great importance.

The man gave a firm nod in acknowledgement.

With that, the Ice Fairy boarded a helicopter and departed for Chang’an. The next time she would appear, she would have stepped into the Awakened Realm.

Outside the Mausoleum of Mount Li, most people had departed, leaving fewer than a hundred behind. They stayed back for one simple purpose—to see if there would be further changes to the Mausoleum and seize any boons the moment it appeared.

At the same time, deep within the Mausoleum, inside the Primordial Dragon Hall, Lu Yuan sat cross-legged before the imperial throne.

Streams of immense power surged out of his body. With each breath, qi congealed into dragons and flowed into his nostrils.

After three days of refining the energy from the Nine-leaf Golden Resonance, the Primordial Dragon Breathing Technique was finally starting to show results.

Currently, a pitch-black vortex had appeared behind Lu Yuan. Like a black hole adrift in cosmic space, it exuded a powerful suction force as it devoured the surrounding energies.

More importantly, as the torrent of energy poured into the depths of the black void, a figure sat cross-legged in the dark silence. Though his features couldn’t be seen, the silhouette mirrored Lu Yuan’s own.
