Chapter 138 – 126: Why can muscles get so big! (Two-in-one big chapter)_2

At this moment, the pair of blue-capped pigeons stayed quietly in a birdcage at her feet.

Hearing the nearby commotion, Jenny peered through the carriage window and saw the bustling scene in front of the town hall of Flashgold Town. Four uncommon Lady Knight Templars of the Goddess Church piqued Jenny’s curiosity, and she scrutinized them for a while.

“Hey, isn’t that Rein?” Jenny spotted Rein greeting the Viscount.

Rein, out of politeness, had already removed his knight’s helmet, so Jenny recognized him at a glance.

“Caso, pull the carriage over to the side,” Jenny said to the coachman, Caso.

“As you wish, Miss Jenny.”

The carriage came to a steady stop by the roadside, and Jenny listened attentively.

Since Rein and the others were knights, their voices were not deliberately concealed; Jenny could hear them clearly from twenty or thirty meters away.

‘Deputy officer of town security in Flashgold Town?’ Jenny’s beautiful eyes sparkled upon hearing this.

As a noble lady, she naturally understood the imperial administrative system’s appointments.

Despite the title “deputy,” considering Rein’s current age, this was quite impressive.

In the imperial administrative system, competition was inevitable, with its share of pettiness, but there was one type where military merit was most valued. As long as one’s military deeds were sufficient, promotion would be smooth sailing.

The background-less Rein becoming deputy officer indicated that he must have accrued substantial bona fide achievements; otherwise, he would have never received the appointment.

“Mother’s judgment is as excellent as always!”

“However, is Rein about to leave?” Jenny frowned.

She had come to Flashgold Town specifically to find Rein, but given the current situation, it seemed that he might have some important mission to undertake with the Goddess Church.

This caused an inexplicable irritation in Jenny’s heart.

…

“So you are Rein, truly a promising youth!”

“I’ve reviewed your records; I had no idea that you, having joined Lord Hamilton’s ranks not long ago, had completed many challenging tasks. With your capabilities, Flashgold Town is indeed too small for you. Have you considered coming to the County Town?” Hamadi, the Viscount, said smilingly.

Somehow, Rein always felt that this superior of his superior had a disingenuous smile.

The smile was very insincere!

“Thank you for the compliment, Viscount, but the cost of living in the County Town is too steep. If I were to move there, I’m afraid I couldn’t afford a house,” Rein said with a laugh, tactfully declining.

Rein’s response triggered hearty laughter from the others.

“Viscount, although Rein has completed many tasks, he is still much too young and needs more training. Let him stay with me a little longer,” Lord Hamilton chimed in to defuse the situation.

Prior to this, Rudolph, the preacher, had not paid much attention to Rein, but after sizing him up carefully and hearing from Lord Hamilton that Rein was under fifteen years old, he became quite interested in him.

Rein certainly noticed the preacher Rudolph’s gaze. Although the eyes were gentle, they had a penetrating quality.

“Rein, would you be interested in joining the Church and embracing the Goddess? I believe with your qualifications, you have a good chance of vying for the next Meister in the County Town.”

As soon as Rudolph, the preacher, opened his mouth, he made a grand proposal, shocking Viscount Hamadi and Lord Hamilton, who were nearby.

They knew Preacher Rudolph all too well. As the one responsible for demon hunting and exorcism in the County Town’s Church of the Sea Goddess, he was usually serious and had a rather old-fashioned demeanor.

To their surprise, he showed a particular fondness for Rein.

And the four Lady Knight Templars couldn’t help but turn their heads slightly to look at Rein.

The others might not be members of the Church and might not realize the weight and significance of the term ‘Meister’ within the Church.

But they knew it all too well.

Every Meister was a candidate for the district’s bishop.

Which meant that if Rein became a Meister, he would have a strong chance of succeeding the Meister of the County’s Church of the Sea Goddess.

Preacher Rudolph’s words also left Rein feeling flattered but overwhelmed.

However, Rein never considered himself wholly devoted to a single deity. If he joined the Church, he guessed it would be only a matter of time before he became a Blasphemer.

After thinking it through, Rein politely declined, “Thank you for your kindness, Preacher, but Lord Hamilton has been very caring towards me. Please forgive me for not being able to join your esteemed Church.”

At that moment, Viscount Hamadi spoke, “It’s getting late, Hamilton, with the Preacher personally making the trip, I think you should accompany us to the Nightingale Forest.”

“This… What about Flashgold Town?” Lord Hamilton hesitated.

“Ahaha, isn’t that a simple matter? Just leave Rein to watch over Flashgold Town!”

“Alright! I’ll follow the Viscount’s arrangement,” Lord Hamilton said, nodding after a brief reflection.

“Rein, you’ll stay and guard Flashgold Town. If all goes well, we should be back by evening, at the latest by tomorrow. While I’m away, I’m entrusting you with the town’s security,” he said.

Rein was stunned by these words.

No, please! I was planning to harvest a wave of experience… How could this…

Rein inwardly screamed; he desperately wanted to refuse.

But clearly, it was not the place to do so.

After all, this order had come from the superior of his superior, and moreover, his direct superior, Lord Hamilton, had agreed.

Consequently, Rein could only respond, “By your command, Lord Hamilton.”
