Wizard starting from shoeing donkeys

Chapter 122 – 113: It’s Not Heavy Metal Exceeded, Is It?

With the second and third bites taken,

the warmth grew hotter, spreading to all the organs of the body. As it was transported along with the blood, it seemed to also transmit a strange energy into the muscles, fascia tissue, organs, and bones.

Soon, the entire bear paw was consumed by Rein.

Not long after, the cozy warmth all over his body abruptly underwent a drastic and rapid change. The initial cozy feeling was now overwhelmed by the stinging pain in his muscles and fascia tissues.

But following Hamilton’s earlier admonition, Rein had to immediately start practicing the Giant Bear Breathing Technique.

Starting from the first move, Rein could clearly feel the strange energy being drawn by his Giant Bear Breathing Technique. Under the orderly guidance of the breathing technique, his muscles and fascia tissues began to grow more rapidly.

If the earlier practice of the breathing technique was like a seed slowly sprouting from the earth, then slowly growing into a small, green sapling,

then at this moment, after taking the advanced Magic Potion, Rein’s muscle and fascia growth seemed like a sapling quickly growing into a small tree, beginning to sprout its own branches and green leaves.

Half an hour passed, and Rein felt his muscles and fascia still ‘developing’ and ‘regenerating’ endlessly.

As Rein felt his strength continuously increasing, a violent and mad notion suddenly burst from the depths of his body, urging him to destroy everything within his sight.

For the average would-be Knight, this was an extremely dangerous juncture; if they managed to get through it, they could successfully step into transcendence. If not, it meant failure, manifesting as either a decrease in strength or even death!

However, for Rein, this advancement process was bound to be successful, so he took this opportunity to carefully experience this overwhelming wave of negative emotions.

After a while, the violent and mad notion gradually disappeared, and Rein’s personal Will also underwent a certain tempering; the entire transformation process seemed to be gradually coming to an end.

Rein felt a peculiar change in his heart; with each beat, it pumped out strands of strange energy, circulating it throughout his body with his blood.

This should be the source of a true Knight’s transcendent power.

[Ding! Job change to Knight (Transcendent) successful! Constitution +3, Strength +3, Agility +2, Spirit +1!]

Constitution: 16

Strength: 15

Agility: 14

Spirit: 12

Remaining attribute points: 1

Remaining skill points: 2

[Gained Transcendent Knight Trait: Huge Strength lv1 (Active)]

[Gained Transcendent Knight Trait: Iron Skin lv1 (Passive)]

[Ding! Host has stepped into transcendence, total number of job panels +1, current job panel upper limit is 4.]

Wow! Four attributes added!

Moreover, two transcendent traits really triggered!

This made Rein clench his fists, unable to hide his excitement!

The difference between one trait and two traits is almost like the difference between an ordinary person and a genius.

Honestly, this was somewhat unexpected for Rein, for his level 5 Giant Bear Breathing Technique wasn’t especially high; from this, it seems that the advanced Magic Potion made from the King Ironmane Bear’s ‘Giant Bear’s Paw’ must have played a special role!

The original Night Watchman panel now saw the words ‘Night Watchman’ disappear, replaced by the four characters ‘Knight (Transcendent)’.

In the bottom right corner of these four characters, there was also a line of small text: Physical Breakthrough Limit (3%) +.

The entire panel also flashed a special green light, showing a clear difference from the previous white job panel.

Below the panel title, above the skill icons, there were two additional lines of text:

[Transcendent Trait: Huge Strength lv1 (Active)]

Huge Strength lv1 Effect: Slightly increases strength.

(Note: The degree of strength increase from the Transcendent Trait Huge Strength is positively correlated with the Breakthrough Limit; the higher the degree of breaking the limit, the greater the increase in strength.)

(Note: To advance to the next level, a Breakthrough Limit of over 30% is required.)

[Transcendent Trait: Iron Skin lv1 (Passive)]

Iron Skin lv1 Effect: The body automatically absorbs free metal elements, slightly enhancing skin defensive power.

(Note: The increase in defensive power from the Transcendent Trait Iron Skin is positively correlated with Spirit and Breakthrough Limit; the higher the Spirit and Breakthrough Limit, the stronger the absorption ability, the greater the enhancement.)

(Note: To advance to the next level, a Breakthrough Limit of over 30% and a Spirit of 12 points or more is required.)

(Note: Transcendent Traits cannot be directly enhanced with skill points.)

After stepping into the official Knight level, Rein seemed to feel every cell in his body rejoicing.

Rein casually moved a few times, then held the bastard sword issued by the Night Watchman in his hand; with further enhancement of his muscles and fascia, swinging the bastard sword felt as light as a feather. Only the sharp sound of breaking wind could be heard repeatedly, though the sword shadows were invisible, only flashes of light passing by.

The transformation was astounding!

The substantial enhancement of Rein’s physical attributes allowed him to perform more precise movements with his weapon, naturally boosting his combat strength.

Furthermore, Rein had a strange feeling, as though he could extract some sort of substance from the Bastard Sword.

It seemed it was….

With a thought, Rein immediately began to control it.

Indeed, a faint, almost imperceptible pale-silver mist spread from Rein’s right hand, which was holding the Bastard Sword, rapidly spreading up his arm and across his whole body.

Rein could feel that this was seemingly an effect of his Knight Transcendent trait—Iron Skin.

It seemed he could accelerate the combination of certain or multiple free metal elements with the keratin layer of his skin, thus providing formidable defensive power.

Out of curiosity, Rein used the Bastard Sword in his right hand to lightly touch his left forearm.

There wasn’t a single mark!

“Sss…..”

Only after applying a bit more pressure did he manage to leave a faint white mark.

This delighted Rein immensely.

Such defense was akin to wearing a suit of plate armor, though it was unknown whether it could defend against the sinister black flames of the Black Flame monks.

However, Rein also noticed that the original metallic luster of the Bastard Sword had dulled quite a bit.

Upon careful consideration, it was clearly due to his Transcendent trait, Iron Skin, which seemed to have drawn some of the metal elements from the Bastard Sword to his body, thus affecting the weapon itself.

“Eh! My body is absorbing metal elements?”

“This… won’t I be overloading on heavy metals?”

Suddenly, Rein thought of a very alarming modern-day issue.

This made him immediately lift his arm to carefully examine his skin’s surface.

Upon close inspection, Rein found that the metal attachment and fortification were merely affecting the outermost layer of his skin, specifically the stratum corneum of the epidermis, and did not at all involve the dermis.

This immediately relieved Rein!

“It’s great to have increased strength, but if it leads to heavy metal overload and premature death, then it would not be worth it!”

Additionally, Rein checked the Knight (Transcendent) panel and found that the original Night Watchman core Skills ‘Danger Perception lv2’ and ‘Dark Vision’ still existed and had been inherited.

This brought Rein double joy!

Thinking back, Rein realized that not advancing from the Knight Attendant vocational panel to Knight (Transcendent) might not necessarily be a bad thing.

Because, from a logical guess, the core Skill of Knight Attendant would likely be something that enhanced attack or fortified defense.

But he already had the ‘Strength Burst’ Core Skill and the secret technique ‘Roaring Strike’ from the Blacksmith vocational panel, making him strong in terms of attack. Thus, in Rein’s view, ‘Danger Perception lv2’ and ‘Dark Vision’ were quite suitable for him at the moment.

Another thing that delighted Rein immensely was the system notification of an additional vocational panel slot.

This meant that if he was truly able to trigger some occupation involving controlling mysterious side energy particles in the future, he would not face a shortage of vocational panel slots.

Just as Rein was about to try out the effect of the Transcendent trait ‘Huge Strength,’ he heard voices coming from the office next door belonging to Hamilton.

Judging from the unfamiliar voices, there were clearly one or more visitors there.

Rein initially did not pay much attention, but he quickly picked up on a keyword, ‘Giant Bear Magic Potion,’ which immediately stopped his actions and made him listen intently.

“Colonel Connor, Sheriff Hamilton, I simply wish to ask you gentlemen to introduce me to the lucky individual who acquired the advanced Magic Potion made from the ‘Paw of the King Ironmane Bear.’ I think such a small request should not be too much for you to refuse, right?”

“Lord Gordon, the advanced Magic Potion has already been used. So, I do not think there is any need for you to meet the person now,” replied Colonel Connor.

“Colonel Connor, you only arrived in Flashgold Town this afternoon, and there’s no need to deny that; I am well aware. Furthermore, from what I understand, a Knight-in-training would take at least several days to prepare before taking an advanced Magic Potion, even longer, correct?”

“So, I am certain that even if the advanced Magic Potion is not with you, it must be on that lucky individual, isn’t it?”

“Besides, gentlemen, just by making an introduction, you could earn the friendship of Lord Marquis Fritz; isn’t it worth serious consideration?”

At this point, the room fell briefly silent.

It seemed due to Connor and Hamilton not speaking, the male named Gordon continued:

“Gentlemen, one of Lord Marquis Fritz’s descendants practices the Giant Bear Breathing Technique, which is why he requires this advanced Magic Potion this time.”

“Furthermore, I can assure both of you that I will offer the lucky individual a compensation that will surely satisfy him.”

Hearing this, Rein knew that trouble was at the door!

And he had made a very wise decision earlier by choosing to take the advanced Magic Potion directly in Hamilton’s lounge.

Had he decided to take the advanced Magic Potion home, he could have been intercepted by the opposing party the moment he stepped out of the administrative hall’s front doors!

However, now that he had successfully advanced into the Transcendent, then….

Suddenly, Rein opened the lounge door and walked out calmly.
