Wizard starting from shoeing donkeys

Chapter 136 – 125: Shouldn’t It Be Past the Growth Period?

Although the entire panel was also flashing with a beautiful green light, there was only a lonely skill icon flickering, which was the Basic Meditation Method lv1 (12/100).

There was not a single combat skill.

This gave Rein a feeling of false joy.

After a stroke of serendipity, he had triggered the Wizard Apprentice (Transcendent) job panel, but since he hadn’t learned any sorcery, it could be said that this Transcendent panel was currently not living up to its name.

Compared to the Knight (Transcendent) job panel, the difference in combat power was like heaven and earth.

However, Rein glanced at his Spirit attribute, which had at least risen to 15 points, comforting his wounded soul since Spirit concerned many of his core skills’ power or duration.

For example, “Strength Burst” was directly proportional to Rein’s Constitution and Spirit.

For example, “danger perception,” whose acuity was directly proportional to Rein’s Spirit—the stronger the spiritual power, the sharper the perception.

So, looking at it this way, Rein had successfully triggered a new Transcendent job as a “Wizard Apprentice,” which then greatly enhanced the original Transcendent job, “Knight.”

Rein stroked his chin, thinking this way, which gave him a bittersweet feeling.

Well, an inexplicable sense of joy.

Rein carefully recalled that Endri, whom Lord Hamilton called a Level 1 Wizard Apprentice—the guy who talked a bit too much—was probably at the same level as himself currently.

It seemed that he couldn’t cast sorcery independently, but could only rely on rare sorcery scrolls or other items to perform spell attacks.

Rein wondered if Endri was just too incompetent, or if there were other conditions that needed to be met.

Thinking it over, Rein began his first session of meditation practice since becoming a Wizard Apprentice.

Perhaps because his spiritual power had increased to 15 points, Rein smoothly visualized nine Will runes at once and still had energy to spare.

However, Rein didn’t rush to visualize the tenth Will rune, but as the practice method suggested, he began to sense and try to guide the free-floating mysterious energy particles around him.

Closing his eyes and fully engaging in perception, Rein gradually felt the various mysterious energy particles in the surrounding space—a sensation that was very peculiar and hard to describe in words.

But feeling them was one thing; trying to guide these energy particles was another.

After several attempts, Rein finally discovered a type of energy particle that seemed to respond more actively to him.

Rein opened his eyes, striving to guide these energy particles to converge around his palm.

On Rein’s palm skin, a very dim red light briefly glowed. If one didn’t look closely, it was hardly noticeable. This effect lasted only a few seconds before the red light vanished without a trace.

However, Rein was not discouraged but rather delighted.

After all, being able to visually observe such a magical change on his first attempt at guiding was quite exciting for Rein.

“Next, it seems I only need to follow the steps to visualize more Will runes and further increase my spiritual power. At the same time, I’ll continue to attempt to guide the free-floating energy particles,” he muttered.

“It’s a pity that I don’t have any basic-level sorcery to learn,” Rein thought to himself.

It felt like owning a gold mine but not being able to spend the gold.

It was like learning the Knight Breathing Method, but not learning any combat skills.

This couldn’t help but remind Rein of the time Cleya taught him the Giant Bear Breathing Technique and Giant Bear Sword Technique—having a guide was indeed beneficial.

Now, he felt like a wild wizard, figuring out almost everything on his own.

Unfortunately, Hamilton was a staunch knightly idealist, and it wasn’t appropriate to ask him about wizardly affairs.

Suddenly, a thought flashed through Rein’s mind, and he murmured:

“To further break through the dog’s limitations and increase the possibility of evolving into a more ferocious state, I could try a daily nutrition meal as the basis, combined with a monthly 2-ounce dose of the Mutation Growth Elixir…”

“That’s right, the Mutation Growth Elixir!”

Rein quickly opened the Book of Silver, turning to the page on enhancing dogs, “Mutation Growth Elixir formula: 1 ounce of sunflowers, a pair of nocturnal vampire bat wings, 2 claws of a carrion wolf…”

At this moment, Rein attempted to decipher the previously incomprehensible latter part.

(Akadian) When making… spell… mobilize…

“This seems like a viable path. However, I still need to solve two problems: firstly, to continue learning Akadian, as my current vocabulary is certainly insufficient. Also, dumb Akadian won’t work; I need to be able to chant!”

“Secondly, acquiring the necessary materials. For this, perhaps only the ‘Bat Market’ in County Town can address this issue. Items like ‘nocturnal vampire bat wings’ and ‘carrion wolf claws’ clearly don’t look like something a reputable pharmacy would sell.”

As Rein pondered, suddenly, a somewhat urgent knocking sound came from outside his home.

“Knock, knock, knock!”

“Is Rein home?”

Oh, that was the voice of the short Matteo.

Rein hurried downstairs to open the door, only to hear Matteo say, “Rein, Lord Hamilton wants you to immediately go to the town hall. The team that had been investigating the Evil Spirit Knights in Nightingale Forest has just arrived.” Read amazing stories on Novgo

“Also, Rein, Lord Hamilton asked me to notify that barbarian girl Lagaray; she should be staying at your place, right? Could you inform her for me?”

“Sure! I’ll be right there. I’ll notify Lagaray.” After a moment’s thought, Rein responded.

“Okay! I still need to prepare a few things, so I’ll be leaving first.”

Matteo chuckled and thumped Rein’s robust chest as a greeting, then quickly stepped away.

The approval for Rein’s appointment as deputy sheriff had not yet been granted by the county town; otherwise, Matteo wouldn’t have been so casual.

However, Rein quite enjoyed his current status.

If people he knew saw him and acted all constrained, it would make him a bit uncomfortable.

Although he had just activated his Wizard Apprentice Transcendent panel, Rein was thinking of studying it carefully. Still, he had promised Lagaray earlier and naturally didn’t want to break his word.

So, picking up his knight’s helmet—which he hadn’t had time to repair—Rein donned the five-piece set of knight armor and, carrying a sheepskin-wrapped Glimmering Greatsword, left the house.

Rein first turned left and arrived at Anna’s doorstep, where he knocked on the door.

Soon, Anna opened the door and was quite pleased to see it was Rein.

Yesterday, she had undergone a trial of will with Rein, and the scene was still fresh in her mind. Whenever Anna thought of how Rein had protected her while standing behind him, her heart couldn’t help but flutter.

She had not shared this with Lagaray; it was her little secret.

“Rein, why have you come, oh, are you about to go on a mission?” Anna, seeing Rein fully armed, couldn’t help but ask.

“Yes, later I need to join the county’s investigation team on a trip to Nightingale Forest. Oh, Anna, is Lagaray here?” Rein nodded in confirmation of Anna’s guess.

“She is.” Hearing that Rein had come looking for Lagaray made Anna feel slightly disappointed.

She had thought that Rein had come to share insights on the basic meditation techniques.

In fact, she had seriously practiced the basic meditation techniques last night and could now visualize six Will Runes in a single session, merely two steps away from eight.

“Rein, did you need me?” Lagaray’s familiar voice came from inside the room.

Apparently hearing the conversation between Rein and Anna, Lagaray emerged from the bedroom, sleep still in her eyes, wearing a thin nightgown that barely covered her voluptuous and energetic figure.

This made Anna take a few more glances at her, then look down at herself as her fair hands clenched suddenly.

“Ahem…. Lagaray, the county’s team to investigate the Evil Spirit Knights has arrived. If… you want to join, you’ll need to get ready quickly.” Rein coughed and shifted his gaze slightly aside.

“Hmm? Did you say the county has finally sent someone?” Lagaray’s entire demeanor froze, her eyes wide open.

Only just realizing, she hurriedly turned around and dashed into the bedroom, saying, “Three minutes, I’ll be ready soon.”

Shortly, Lagaray appeared in a warrior’s outfit with short-sleeved mail over a leather harness, her round, pale legs impressively flexible.

Rein merely glanced at her and felt that Lagaray’s figure was even more stunning than when he had first met her.

Lagaray was past her growing phase, wasn’t she?

“Hey! Lagaray, is your shield fixed?”

Rein was surprised to see that Lagaray carried a shield nearly identical to the previous one on her back, made of solid wood with a palm-sized, raised iron disk at the center, tightly encircled by a narrow strip of iron.

“Yes! Though I couldn’t find iron fir wood, I did find a large piece of oak, so I used it to repair the shield,” Lagaray shifted slightly, allowing Rein a clear view of the shield on her back.

Rein then remembered that Lagaray was not only a barbarian warrior but also a skilled blacksmith.

For her, fixing a shield was a simple task, provided she had the right materials.

Indeed, upon closer inspection, he could see that the grain of one large piece of wood was inconsistent with the others and the color was slightly different. However, if one wasn’t looking closely, it was quite indistinguishable.

The two bid farewell to Anna and headed towards the town hall.

When Rein and Lagaray arrived at the town hall, a mixed-style team was already stationed at the entrance.

Four knights clad in bright silver armor and draped in white cloaks were particularly striking.

Their armor was intricately patterned, different from the regular knight armor, and they had a prominent golden emblem on their chests: a long-skirted woman standing atop waves, blowing a horn.
