Wizard starting from shoeing donkeys

Chapter 135 – 124: The New Transcendent Profession

A willpower trial?

It seems the previous one must have been some kind of Illusion Technique?

But that was almost too realistic!

Without pondering for too long, Rein and Anna gazed intently down at the next page.

After a long while, Rein finally exhaled deeply, a look of joy on his face, but in the next second, his brows furrowed.

It turned out that the willpower trial was a method used by the Druid Circle to select and test newcomers, and those who passed the willpower trial were deemed ready to begin practicing the basic meditation method.

What followed was indeed a record of the basic meditation method.

However, Rein was a bit troubled by the fact that Anna could trigger the Wooden Amulet but he had no reaction at all. Would he be able to practice the Druid Circle’s basic meditation method?

At this point, Anna turned her head to look at Rein with a gaze that was passionate yet somewhat anxious. “Rein, can I practice this meditation method?” she asked.

As Rein’s power rapidly increased, Anna had always felt a sense of anxiety, as if Rein was growing further and further away from her.

This feeling peaked today when she saw Rein chatting and laughing with that elegant noble lady through the crack of the door.

Now, with the meditation method laid out before her, she was eager to learn it, even though she was not sure how powerful she would become after mastering it. However, she had heard various legends from the mystical side.

Regardless, she would certainly be much more formidable than she was now if she learned it, thought Anna.

“Of course, you can,” replied Rein without hesitation.

If there was a chance he couldn’t practice the Druids’ basic meditation method, clearly Anna had a high likelihood of being able to.

In fact, even now, Rein wasn’t sure whether the change in the ‘Trial Book’ was triggered by the moonlight alone, or whether Anna’s touch was also an essential part of it, or if there were other triggering conditions.

But from what Rein guessed, this time it might still be because of Anna, just like with the Wooden Amulet.

When they turned to the next page, suddenly, the Trial Book emitted a green glow.

As the green light shone upon them, their minds abruptly received content and methods for practicing the basic meditation method.

Faced with this magical phenomenon, both Anna and Rein exchanged glances, seeing surprise and admiration in each other’s eyes.

After some time, Rein studied the contents and methods of the basic meditation method several times before he confirmed that it seemed he could also practice the Druidic basic meditation method.

He didn’t yet know how effective it would be.

But he was fairly certain he could learn it.

According to the instructions, the prerequisite for practicing the basic meditation method was to have spiritual power beyond that of an ordinary person, a criterion both Rein and Anna met, and that was the purpose of the willpower trial.

Rein roughly estimated that this threshold was around 10 Spirit Attribute points, nearly twice that of an average person, while he had 12 Spirit points, making it much easier for him than Anna.

Additionally, after observing the content of the basic meditation method in his mind, Rein started to understand why Endri’s diary had no such records.

That was because the content of the basic meditation method turned out to be a series of three-dimensional symbols, and they became more complex the further one got.

No wonder the Druid Circle transferred knowledge through that method of green light.

Just as Rein was about to try practicing the basic meditation method, the knocking on the door sounded again.

“Knock, knock, knock!”

However, before Rein could call out to come in, the door was opened from the outside.

There stood Lagaray with a teasing expression looking at them both.

Sensing Lagaray’s peculiar gaze, Anna looked down to inspect herself, and only then she realized that because she and Rein had been watching the ‘Trial Book’ together, their hands were still intertwined, bodies pressed closely to each other.

Immediately, Anna’s face flushed red, and her fair little hand quickly withdrew from Rein’s, her body springing away like a startled bunny.

In truth, Lagaray was falsely accusing Rein and Anna. Honestly, their experience had just been too magical for them to have considered anything romantic; their hands were intertwined because Rein was protecting Anna during the trial.

And their bodies were pressed closely together because they were both attracted to the magical changes in the ‘Trial Book’.

“What exactly are you two secretly doing? I’ve knocked twice now,” said Lagaray, glancing at them both with a peculiar look.

Anna immediately lowered her head in embarrassment, her face burning red.

But Rein was stunned. It seemed that during the willpower trial with Anna, Lagaray had already been by once. No wonder she knocked and then just pushed the door open without waiting this time.

“Anna, do you even know what time it is? Do you plan to sleep here tonight?” Lagaray asked Anna, smiling mischievously.

“No, no!” Anna’s face became even redder, as if about to bleed, and she waved her hands frantically.

“Rein, thank you for today. Well… I’m going to sleep now. You should rest early too,” Anna said, and quickly pushed Lagaray out of the room.

Before leaving, Lagaray gave Rein a meaningful glance.

Then, their footsteps descending the stairs followed.

Rein shook his head, dispelling the romantic thoughts from his mind.

At that moment, having just acquired the basic meditation method, he was like a boy deeply engrossed in a video game, with no mind to pay attention to a girlfriend.

Soon, Rein began to visualize the first three-dimensional symbol in his mind according to the method of practicing the basic meditation method.

These three-dimensional symbols, as described in the basic meditation method, were known as will runes.

The will rune was a rather intricate three-dimensional pattern that had to be vividly imagined in the mind.

According to the introduction in the meditation technique, if one could visualize all eight Will runes at once, that would be considered stepping into the first stage.

Of course, the primary function of the meditation technique was to enhance spiritual power gradually through the visualization of Will runes.

After several attempts, Rein was pleasantly surprised to discover that on his best try, he had successfully visualized seven Will runes at once—just one short of reaching the first stage described in the meditation technique.

However, at that moment, Rein felt a throbbing pain accompanied by a slight headache at his temples—evidently, this was likely due to the length of the meditation practice approaching his current limit.

Indeed, this was very similar to the Knight Breathing Method, with an implicit time restriction each day; once one reached the physical limit, it was necessary to rest and recover gradually.

At the same time, although he had yet to trigger a job change or anything of the sort, Rein had a vague premonition that something might change once he reached the first stage of the meditation technique.

For now, what he needed to do was to quickly resolve this final step; after all, he had already succeeded in visualizing seven Will runes at once—only one more was needed.

It didn’t take long for Rein to think of the simplest method, which was naturally to add points.

If one point wasn’t enough for the Spirit attribute, then two points—he was confident that he could easily handle the eighth Will rune with the additional points.

Of course, the approach most people took was to enhance their spiritual power slowly through practice with the first seven Will runes, even though it was a bit slower.

That night, feeling somewhat mentally exhausted, Rein fell into a deep sleep.

The border of Mingster Province.

In a certain forest.

A tall figure wearing a grey robe and a hooded cloak was heading south through the forest, the occasional glimpse of jet-black hair indicating that she seemed to be the female Elf who had rushed there from Ferdinand Forest.

Suddenly, she stopped, lifting her head slightly, revealing a delicate face beneath her hood. As she drew closer, she clearly sensed the fluctuations from the activation of the Trial Book.

Frowning, her eyes flickered, and in a low whisper, she muttered, “How is this possible?”

“The amulet being triggered could be a fluke, but activating the Trial Book requires fulfillment of….”

…

The next day after waking up, Rein’s first thought was about how to tackle the basic meditation technique because he was agonizing over being so close to reaching the first stage.

After some thought and checking his panel, he found that the Dog Trainer job was the easiest to level up, currently at lv2 (292/300).

Although he hadn’t been taking ‘Cookie’ on night patrols recently, he managed to raise his Dog Trainer level to this point by crafting premium ‘dog food’ and feeding it.

So, first thing in the morning, Rein took the Greyhound ‘Cookie’ out for a walk.

After coming back, he prepared a lavish feast for ‘Cookie’ and successfully raised his Dog Trainer level to lv3 (1/500), gaining one Skill Point and one attribute point.

Having sorted out the Dog Trainer upgrade, Rein handed ‘Cookie’ over to Bo He and, without any hesitation, returned to his room.

Without any hesitation, Rein added an attribute point to Spirit, instantly raising it from 12 to 13.

Rein immediately felt a sense of clarity in his ears and eyes, although the improvement was not huge.

Right away, Rein started to try the first eight Will runes of the basic meditation technique again.

The additional increase in Spirit made Rein realize that his perception of the surroundings had changed.

This was not just an improvement in eyesight, but an all-encompassing enhancement of hearing, smell, and other senses, including an even deeper change—he became more sensitive to perceptions.

Rein could faintly detect various energy particles floating in the air around his body.

When he closed his eyes, this sensation became especially intense.

However, when Rein looked at the Wizard Apprentice job panel, he couldn’t help but twitch at the corner of his mouth.
