Chapter 132 – 122: Unexpected Job Change Information

After arriving at Agatha Mill, Rein threw the butler, Colm, to the ground with a single motion.

“Clang!”

A rust-covered shovel was thrown in front of the shivering Colm.

“Mr. Butler, go and dig up the remains of Agatha and her father!” Rein lowered his head, looking into Colm’s eyes, and slowly said.

“Of course, you can choose to refuse, but if you do, you’ll have to spend the night in this windmill, letting Agatha keep you company for a nice long chat.”

The previously hesitating Colm, upon hearing he would be locked in with a ghost, immediately thought of all sorts of horrifying legends and chilling scenes, his face turned pale in an instant and he quickly said, “I’ll dig, I’ll dig!”

Baron Watson, who was standing nearby, couldn’t help but shake his head at the scene.

Now it seemed almost certain that his butler Colm was the murderer.

No wonder Colm had reported to him that he had acquired the neighboring Agatha Mill for an incredibly low price; he even remembered praising him for it at the time.

Now it was clear that the mill, being Agatha and her father’s means of livelihood, wouldn’t have been sold so easily.

In no time, Colm had dug up a skeleton that had almost turned to white bones. From the clothes, it was faintly recognizable as the ghostly Agatha Rein had seen before, in her checkered dress with a white apron.

The moment the remains were unearthed, the onlookers surrounding the area burst into an uproar.

They hadn’t expected that behind the mysterious events at Agatha Mill, in addition to monsters, there was such secrecy.

“That’s Agatha, that sweet girl’s dress; her favorite was this checkered dress, I heard it was the last thing her mother made for her before she passed away,” cried a woman who knew Agatha well, recognizing her clothes immediately, unable to hold back her tears.

“Yes, Agatha was a kind-hearted girl, every time I came to grind flour, she would charge me less,” said a farmer with a limp.

“It’s truly so sad…”

“…”

Rein took to heart the words of the onlookers and quickly sketched an image in his mind of the checkered-dress girl who was warm to others and always ready to help.

He couldn’t help but despise Colm even more!

“Bury Agatha behind the third windmill,” he said.

It was Agatha’s own request; she wanted to be buried with her father.

Furthermore, she had one more small wish: the area behind the third windmill was the highest point on the slope, and she wanted to be buried there with her father so that she could overlook the entire Agatha Mill.

Soon, the second set of remains was also dug up by Colm.

Seeing this, the onlooking clergyman Gregory, the farmers, and others looked at Colm with eyes filled with hatred, his actions were just too inhumane.

Rein walked to the simple pit that had been dug in advance, looked at the two sets of remains placed side by side, bent down, and picked up the brass ring that was on the finger of Agatha’s remains.

Strangely, perhaps because the ghostly Agatha had agreed to give the ring to Rein, the surface of the brass ring was surprisingly clean, not stained with a single foreign substance.

The moment Rein picked up the ring, suddenly, he froze.

[Ding! Detected the host obtaining an unknown relic, triggering the career change to Spirit Medium!]

[The prerequisites for advancing to a Spirit Medium are: 1. Any relic attached with the aura of a spiritual body; 2. Spirit 12 points or above. Current conditions met. Yes/No to change career to Spirit Medium?]

A new career panel was triggered!

And it seemed to be the mysterious side career he had long awaited; Rein couldn’t help but be overjoyed.

However…

At this moment, he had only one slot left on his career panel (3/4), which was added when Rein broke through to the Transcendent tier, so he definitely had to choose carefully.

He had some understanding of the career panel by now: generally, the careers with more prerequisites, or the more stringent the prerequisites, tend to be more powerful.

Looking at the prerequisites required for the Spirit Medium, this career most likely wasn’t a powerful one.

It could be similar to the Spirit Mediums Rein had heard about in his previous life, which initially had only the ability to see some spirits or to communicate with them in a rudimentary way.

Clearly, this didn’t align with the kind of mysterious side career that could significantly enhance his combat strength, which Rein had been hoping for.

By contrast, Rein was more impressed by the Wizard Apprentice recorded in Endri’s diary. In his mind, becoming a Wizard Apprentice would be a better choice.

After careful thought, Rein chose No and did not immediately switch careers to ‘Spirit Medium’.

He planned to wait and see for a little while longer; if it didn’t work out, there would still be time to change careers later.

[Yes/No to name the unknown relic?]

To name it?

He remembered Agatha saying that as long as he wore the brass ring, he would earn the favor of certain spirits; he decided to name it after her, calling it ‘Agatha’s Ring.’ Rein thought to himself.

[Ding! Naming successful!]

[Acquired the relic ‘Agatha’s Ring’]

(Note: This is an ordinary brass ring, but it bears the sincere gratitude and blessing of a young girl’s soul. Wearing it will make some spectral beings feel a sense of fondness towards the wearer.)

Although Baron Watson found it a bit strange why Rein would remove a brass ring that was obviously worthless from the remains, he did not ask.

Shortly after, several security officers from the county town arrived at the scene. After asking about the incident and recording it, they took the weeping Colm away.

What awaited him was a brief stint in prison, followed by execution after trial!

Rein and Baron Watson had already agreed on this.

As long as the baron did not intervene, Colm’s fate was actually sealed at that moment.

The servant of a noble; it is the noble behind them that is the foundation for the servant.

With this, the matter was concluded.

By evening, Rein, carrying the bundled corpse of the mist yaoi, rode his warhorse back to Flashgold Town. Although the mystical event had been resolved, he was far from happy inwardly.

The young life of Agatha was forever frozen in her prime, making Rein feel somewhat heavy at heart.

After returning to Flashgold Town, Rein did not go straight home but instead first visited Lord Hamilton’s office.

Now that the mystical event had been resolved, it was naturally necessary to inform him first.

“Huh! Rein, you’re back so soon?” Lord Hamilton asked in surprise as he saw Rein enter.

In his plan, even if everything went smoothly, Rein would not have returned until tomorrow.

“Yes, my lord, everything went rather smoothly.” Rein said, and then recounted the day’s events to Lord Hamilton.

After listening, Lord Hamilton also sighed about the misfortune of Agatha and her father.

“I didn’t expect this mysterious event to have such twists. But to think the real monster turned out to be a mist yaoi. Right, Rein, you’re not hurt, are you?”

Lord Hamilton looked Rein over, not noticing any obvious injuries, and couldn’t help but laugh and nod.

“No, I have to thank you for this set of knight’s plate armor you gave me.” Rein said while showing the slash on the back of the knight’s helmet to Lord Hamilton.

The scratch was four fingers wide, and at its deepest, nearly two-thirds the thickness of the plate armor. This meant that if the mist yaoi had been even a bit stronger, it might have been possible to penetrate the armor’s protection.

This was also the reason why the squad of family guards sent by Baron Watson had been annihilated—the chainmail simply could not withstand such an attack.

“Huh! With this kind of strength, as well as the ability you mentioned to hide in the mist…” Lord Hamilton took the helmet and began to frown more deeply as he examined it.

He, too, wouldn’t dare say he could have easily defeated the creature.

“Rein, now you understand, don’t you? Why sometimes no matter how many ordinary people there are, they can’t solve these mystical events and only add to the panic.” Lord Hamilton thought for a moment, then continued.

“Yes, my lord.”

Rein wholeheartedly agreed with this point. No matter how many ordinary people there were against such monsters, they would be simply delivering themselves. Knights, as the most visible transcendent human strength, could be said to form the stable foundation of the entire society.

“By the way, you’ll need to reforge this damaged helmet. Leave it here, and I’ll send someone to the county town to have it repaired and then returned to you tomorrow.”

“Uh… my lord, this small issue, perhaps I can take care of the repair myself. Actually, I’m also a blacksmith.” Rein said with a smile.

“Hmm? Alright then!” Lord Hamilton glanced at Rein in surprise but did not inquire further.

Because Rein had already brought him too many surprises recently.

“Right, did you bring back the mist yaoi’s corpse?”

“I have, my lord.”

“The Empire’s Mystic Research Institute has a special department for purchasing such monster’s corpses; if you’re willing to sell, you can exchange it for merit points or Empire gold coins.”

“Rein, if you don’t have other plans for the mist yaoi’s corpse, perhaps this would be a good option.”

Mystic Research Institute?

It sounded like a rather high-end institution.

This piqued Rein’s curiosity a bit.

Actually, he was quite interested in studying these mysterious creatures, but unfortunately, he had no means at the moment to process or preserve the mist yaoi’s corpse.

Besides, he also lacked the relevant knowledge in this field of research, something he would have to address later.

However, he hadn’t expected that the mist yaoi’s corpse could be directly exchanged for merit points.

In that case, there wasn’t much to consider.

After all, gathering 1000 merit points a bit sooner to sign up for the knighthood exam was a top priority.

“Let’s exchange it for merit points.” Rein declared.

“Good! That’s what I think too. Gold coins can be earned anywhere, but merit points are not easy to come by.” Lord Hamilton nodded his head, appearing quite agreeable.

After handing over the mist yaoi’s corpse, Rein left the town hall.

However, as he was almost home, Rein was surprised to find the familiar carriage from the morning now parked at his doorstep.

Could it be…
