Chapter 131 – 121 Abandoned Child_2

At the request of Agatha, Reine had already formulated a not-so-mature plan in his mind.

It might not succeed, but Reine still intended to try.

Gregory, who had returned from Watson Manor and had been waiting outside, exclaimed with surprise when he saw Reine come out:

“Lord Reine, good to see you safe coming…”

Suddenly, Gregory’s voice stopped abruptly because he was terrified by the sight of the monster corpse that Reine dragged out, his eyes wide with fright.

“There really are monsters! I thought it was a ghost. Such unreliable bounty hunters!” he murmured.

“Steward Gregory, I have temporarily resolved the issue with the mill. If you want a permanent solution, I need to meet with Lord Watson.”

“Lord Reine, you want to meet the baron?”

“That’s wonderful, Lord Baron just told me he would like to meet you too. At this moment, he should be right in the nearby Watson Manor.”

Before long, Gregory led Reine to the nearby Watson Manor.

It turned out that Baron Watson had arrived at the manor from the county town in the afternoon to inspect it. Hearing that someone was handling the mill’s issue, he planned to meet.

“Lord Watson, it’s an honor to meet you,” Reine bowed slightly.

Although he had now become Transcendent, he was not technically a noble, so he still followed basic etiquette.

Baron Watson was a tall middle-aged man dressed in noble hunting attire, and the man next to him, wearing a black robe, was likely the murderer Agatha had spoken of—the butler Colm.

Baron Watson smiled as he evaluated Reine, saying, “So you are the newly Transcendent Reine? I didn’t expect you to be the one to resolve this.”

Reine was slightly taken aback, as he had not expected news of his becoming Transcendent to spread so quickly.

“Yes, Lord Baron. It was Lord Hamilton who mentioned to me the mysterious incident at Agatha Mill. For now, it seems I have resolved it.”

“Temporarily?” Baron Watson frowned.

“Yes, although I dealt with the murderer of the farmers and guards, the Fog Demon, the fundamental problem at Agatha Mill has not been resolved, there is something more secretive involved.”

As Reine mentioned the word “secretive,” he deliberately glanced at the butler Colm, who instantly looked panicky.

“Hmm? Reine, please explain in detail.” Clearly, Baron Watson’s curiosity was piqued after hearing about the secrets.

Thus, Reine began to slowly narrate the story.

“Agatha’s tragic experience turned her into a vengeful spirit, constantly attracting various monsters to the Agatha Mill. Thus, only by laying her to rest can the mill possibly resume normal operations.”

Hearing this, beads of sweat the size of beans began to form on Butler Colm’s forehead.

“Reine, Agatha’s plight is indeed deplorable; how can we lay her to rest? Do we need to catch the murderer? Do you have any clues?”

“Lord Baron, there’s no need for that much trouble.”

“Could it be that you know who the murderer is?” Baron Watson realized, looking toward Reine.

Reine nodded, his gaze fixed on the now trembling Butler Colm, saying, “The murderer is right in front of us, Lord Baron.”

Following Reine’s gaze, Baron Watson looked doubtfully at the standing Butler Colm, which immediately shocked him, saying:

“What? Is it Colm?”

“Lord Reine, this is a slanderous accusation by the ghost, slander!” The butler, Colm, trembled all over, his face flushed. Despite his fear of the Transcendent Reine, he still forced himself to argue.

Thinking it over, the Baron’s expression became stern as he said.

“Reine, we still need evidence for this matter. The words of a ghost are not necessarily credible.”

Such a vile act committed by someone close to him made Baron Watson instinctively reluctant to believe, although from Butler Colm’s demeanor at this moment, Baron Watson was aware that Colm was likely involved.

Evidence?

Reine chuckled.

This incident happened months ago. Without modern forensic methods, only some form of witchcraft from the supernatural realm might force the true culprit to confess their crime.

Clearly, Reine did not possess such abilities now.

“Reine, I plan to completely shut down Agatha Mill, and as for Colm, I will also dismiss him,” Baron Watson glanced at Butler Colm, then turned to Reine and said.

It seemed Baron Watson had already thought of a solution.

Merely dismissing him was a trivial punishment compared to what happened to Agatha and her father.

Fortunately, Reine was well-prepared.

“My lord, perhaps you believe that by doing this, Agatha’s ghost will not haunt you anymore, right? But I’ve heard that ghosts can further transform, even becoming vengeful spirits!”

“Moreover, the area around Agatha Mill might attract more monsters, and your manor isn’t too far from the mill.”

“Do you really not mind if things escalate to that extent? I’m afraid by then, even spending a fortune to hire the church’s higher-ups might not resolve the issue.”

These words were all fabricated by Reine on the spot, based on rumors he had heard in the past few days from Lord Hamilton’s side, primarily to scare.

Baron Watson’s complexion worsened as Reine spoke.

Reine’s words were something he had also heard bits about.

Moreover, seeking the aid of high ranking church officials was not so easy, requiring not only a hefty sum of money but also significant favors.

Baron Watson’s brow furrowed deeply, his gaze flickering as he clearly weighed the pros and cons.

Though Colm had served the Watson family as a butler for many years and was usually quite competent, Baron Watson was unaware that he could commit such an act, especially since the situation could potentially lead to serious losses for the Watson family.

Initially, he had thought to downplay the situation, but now hesitated after hearing Reine’s words.

Meanwhile, Butler Colm’s face turned deathly pale, and his legs trembled so much that he could barely stand.

“Colm, go with Reine to Agatha Mill and settle this affair,” Baron Watson decided quickly after a moment of thought.

Clearly, after hearing Reine’s “analysis”, Baron Watson was prepared to give up on Butler Colm.

“My lord, I am innocent!” The once robust butler, Colm, now seemed like a spineless snake, collapsing to the ground.

“My lord, you’ve made a wise decision,” Reine chuckled.

Reine then grabbed Colm by the scruff of his neck, as if lifting a small chicken, and headed towards Agatha Mill.
