Chapter 117 – 110: Promotion and Undercurrents

“Lord Hamilton, the ‘material’ mentioned on the note naturally refers to the children they are forcibly abducting through various gangs and pirates. If my guess is correct, this Black Flame Cult you mentioned, is apparently preparing for something very important to them recently,”

“You are correct, Rein, I will immediately report this matter to County Town,” Lord Hamilton nodded, sharing the feeling.

The child abductions that had been happening more and more frequently of late signally loudly that the Black Flame Cult was very likely the puppeteer behind the curtains.

At that moment, a Messenger approached and reported, “Sheriff, Knight Lloyd and his team have arrived at the Steward Farm. Sir, should we go to them, or should we have Knight Lloyd come here?”

“Have the children been rescued?” Lord Hamilton asked after hearing the Messenger’s report, instead of making a direct decision, he turned to ask Rein.

Rein nodded and said, “All successfully rescued, not one dead, not one injured!”

“Very good! Then let’s go to Steward Farm to welcome back Knight Lloyd and his men,” Lord Hamilton said with a broad gesture, clearly in good spirits.

“By the way, Messenger, immediately report to the Viscount, Hamadi, the Chief of Public Security in County Town, tell them we have destroyed a secret base of the Cult and have rescued dozens of children.”

“At your command, sir!”

With the arrival of Knight Lloyd, Steward Farm suddenly bustled with activity, the perimeters also thoroughly searched and surrounded by the guards from Habbs Manor who had arrived with him.

Rein even saw his familiar swordsmanship instructor, Humbert.

However, it seemed that Humbert never expected the man standing beside Flashgold Town’s sheriff, Lord Hamilton, wearing knightly plate armor to be Rein.

Of course, this was partly due to Rein wearing his knightly helmet with only a narrow T-shaped slot to allow for vision and breathing, which made it impossible for outsiders to see the face of the knight beneath the helm. Explore more at ReadNovelFull

Therefore, Humbert naturally couldn’t recognize Rein.

And Rein, as well, had no intention of ‘shocking everyone’ by going over to greet Humbert and give him a ‘scare’.

Steward Farm, being a secret base of the Black Flame Cult, should have had plenty of clues about the cult. But Mort’s massive fire had burned all traces clean away.

This made the ‘little note’ Rein took from Mort all the more significant and of great importance to Lord Hamilton.

Rein didn’t stay at Steward Farm for too long; he returned to Flashgold Town with the Night Watchman team that escorted the children back.

On the way back, Rein finally had time to check the system prompts:

[Your skill Giant Bear Sword Technique has improved, experience +86]

[Your skill Giant Bear Sword Technique has improved, experience +278]

[You have experienced a battle, Night Watchman professional experience points +142]

[You have experienced a battle, Night Watchman professional experience points +172]

[Your skill Giant Bear Sword Technique has improved, experience +359]

[You have experienced a battle, Night Watchman professional experience points +205]

…

A dense stream of system prompts almost filled the screen.

From the initial bout with Lagaray to the battle with the sledgehammer man, then the one against six, and finally the fight with a Black Flame Cultist, the sum total of experience awarded was significantly hefty.

The Profession Level of Night Watchman and the Giant Bear Sword Technique both climbed by more than half, Night Watchman reaching lv4 (593/1000), while Giant Bear Sword Technique reached lv5 (1049/2000).

While Rein was returning to Flashgold Town,

Weilun, accompanied by his daughter, found Lord Hamilton, who was still dealing with the aftermath at Steward Farm, and said, “Sir, I request to resign from my position as the leader of the Night Watchman. I deeply regret my negligence in the entire course of events.”

“If it weren’t for your timely arrival at the end, stopping that black-robed person, and Rein successfully rescuing all the children, I would have felt guilty for the rest of my life,” Weilun added as he bowed deeply.

Lord Hamilton was silent, mulling over the scene; his emotions were complex.

He had children too, and from a father’s perspective, there was nothing wrong with what Weilun did.

Unfortunately, he was the Captain of the Night Watchman.

Lord Hamilton nodded and said, “Granted! Weilun, I accept your request. By the way, do you have a recommendation for the position of Night Watchman Captain?”

“Thank you, sir. I recommend Rein and Matteo. Of course, I prefer Rein. Even though he has not been part of the Night Watchman for long, his strength is evident to all. Without him, this rescue could not have proceeded so smoothly,” Weilun earnestly expressed.

For Rein, Weilun was genuinely grateful.

Having gone through this event, he felt he had been too negligent towards his family before. It would be a joy to spend more time with his daughter Abby and his family from now on.

When Rein got home, he quickly discovered that Lagaray and Sister Anna were missing from the house.

“Bo He? Where’s Sister Anna?” Rein couldn’t help but ask his sister, who was playing with the Lintree hound.

“Sister Anna and Lagaray are next door at Sister Anna’s place, they’re tidying up the room. They said they are staying over there tonight,” Bo He informed him.

“Oh?” Upon hearing this, Rein felt a touch of emptiness.

Since the Blackbeard incident began, Anna had been living in his house, and it seemed he had grown quite accustomed to her presence.
