The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Her left hand was still wrapped in gauze, and her ivory trench coat enveloped a noticeably thinner figure, appearing quite despondent.

But the aura of her presence remained intact.

Zevaney Kingsley bit her lip, her eyes flickered as she gazed at the entrance of the research institute, suppressing the unwillingness and resentment in her eyes, clenching her palm, and walked in step by step.

...

Today, everyone at the research institute was present.

Many people heard that she would be coming back to retrieve her belongings today.

Many were discussing the matter of her and Leony Davidson being expelled from the research institute.

All sorts of whispers floated into Zevaney Kingsley’s ears along the way.

”Zevaney Kingsley came to fetch her things. Tsk, who would’ve thought she’d be expelled? Just a while ago, I thought she’d enter the level 8 laboratory, then in a blink, she was expelled. Isn’t this too tragic?”

”Back when Nathalie Quinlan first joined the institute, she secretly pressured other rookie groups not to take in Nathalie Quinlan, and only the worst and most unremarkable 10th group took the pressure allowing Nathalie to join... Not long ago, everyone from the 10th group stayed in the level 8 laboratory, but Zevaney Kingsley, who was once so glorious, was kicked out of The First Research Institute. This is what they call thirty years east of the river, thirty years west... One shouldn’t be too arrogant.”

”If she hadn’t been so against the ’Rookie King’ at the start, things wouldn’t have blown up to this extent. She was part of the best group, Group 1. If Nathalie Quinlan hadn’t joined Group 10 but Group 1 instead, she would have entered the level 8 laboratory. Why did she need to make such a fuss to get into the level 8 laboratory...”

”Everyone says she’s the Kingsleys Family’s once-in-a-century genius, but I think she’s no match for the ’Rookie King’. If she really was as gifted as they say, why couldn’t she enter the level 8 laboratory? Even the dean couldn’t bear to give up on her.”

”Just boasting.”

”I’ve always felt Zevaney Kingsley is nothing compared to Nathalie Quinlan; the gap between them is too vast.”

Zevaney Kingsley felt as if knives were stabbing her along the way, her heart torn apart.

She felt as if she were walking on a bed of flames, with each step humiliating words pierced into herself.

She didn’t want to listen, but the criticism was surging like a tide.

In order to preserve her remaining dignity, Zevaney Kingsley could only pretend not to hear, keeping a straight face, and walked step by step towards the level 5 laboratory.

Nathan Garland was waiting in the office. Upon hearing the knocking on the door, he looked up and said, ”Come in.”

Zevaney Kingsley entered the office, her face somewhat pale and weak, ”Teacher, I’m here to get my things.”

She actually didn’t have much to take, mainly records of the experiments she conducted over the years at the institute.

Nathan Garland rose from his seat, taking the file he had prepared from a drawer, and handed it over to Zevaney Kingsley.

Zevaney Kingsley silently accepted the file, raised her head, just about to speak.

Nathan Garland spoke first: ”I’ve tried to fight for you.”

Zevaney Kingsley looked up at him.

A rare flash of anger crossed Nathan Garland’s usually stern face, but it quickly returned to his usual aloofness: ”The dean insisted on expelling you. I’m just one person speaking for you, it doesn’t work if others aren’t on my side.”

Zevaney Kingsley tightened her grip on the file, lowered her head, her voice deep, ”I know, thank you, teacher.”

Seeing this ’obedient’ appearance of hers, Nathan Garland couldn’t help but feel a surge of frustration.

He had finally found a promising seedling, nurtured with great care, only for it to be gone too soon, who wouldn’t be upset?
