The Unveiling of Secret Queen

The two had just stepped out the institute’s main door.

Outside the door.

Kenzie Nabours was waiting for them: ”You’re out?”

Mrs. Davidson saw him with his face covered in stubble, extinguished the cigarette butt in her hand, tossed it on the ground and crushed it with the tip of her shoe. All around was wrapped in indifference, the way he looked at them was not how one looks at family, but like a stranger.

Mrs. Davidson’s heart skipped a beat, a strong unease welled up inside her...

She pulled Leony slowly forward, forcing a smile and greeting the newcomer: ”Kenzie, why are you here?”

Kenzie ignored her, his sharp gaze bypassing her to fall on Leony who was hiding behind her; that gaze was like a knife, frightening Leony into lowering her head, whispering, ”Uncle.”

Kenzie unexpectedly did not respond.

Mrs. Davidson was a bit flustered, immediately blocking in front of her daughter, pretending to speak casually: ”Kenzie, why didn’t you let me know you’d come over? I could have come out to meet you.”

”Hmm.” Kenzie finally gave her a proper look, but there was no previous warmth in his eyes, only endless cold: ”If I had come earlier, how would you have managed to pardon the Kingsleys on my behalf and Marcella in front of Mr. Fuller?”

Mrs. Davidson’s face immediately flushed, her gaze flickered, awkwardly replying: ”I, I didn’t mean it like that.”

”Did you not pardon Zevaney Kingsley for me just now?” Kenzie for the first time showed no politeness, his words extremely blunt.

After a moment of awkwardness, Mrs. Davidson had no choice but to explain: ”The Kingsleys came to me to negotiate about staging a scene in the office. We were also trying to avoid making a big fuss. After all, Leony is still young, for her future, I had no choice but to...

Hansel Kingsley privately approached her, hesitating about ’performing’ a reconciliation act before Nicholas Fuller.

She knew it was inappropriate, but considering Leony’s future, Mrs. Davidson gritted her teeth and went along with Hansel Kingsley to act out a scene.

After all, the real victim in this incident was only one—Marcella Davidson.

Marcella was also part of the Davidson Family.

They themselves decided not to pursue, and the institute would not heavily punish.

Even though everyone knew, her own mess wasn’t even sorted, and she had no right to represent Marcella Davidson in forgiving Zevaney Kingsley. Yet everyone there were savvy, they just wanted things to look alright... they sacrificed their face for a play, and even Nicholas Fuller knowing they had no qualification for ’reconciliation’, wouldn’t expose the facade publicly.

If Nathalie Quinlan hadn’t come today, maybe their way would’ve worked!

Unfortunately, Nathalie came.

All efforts turned to ashes.

”So in your eyes, her future is more important than my wife’s life.” Kenzie seemed calm when he said this, as if he was merely asking a question.

But Mrs. Davidson’s heartbeat accelerated, keenly sensing a harshness in Kenzie’s tone, she quickly said: ”I didn’t mean that.”

”Marcella is unharmed, right?”

”I was thinking this was a misfortune turned blessing for Marcella, and since she’s safe and sound, I agreed to the Kingsleys’ proposed method.”

Seeing Kenzie unmoved, Mrs. Davidson steeled herself to continue: ”I’ve privately educated Leony, and once Marcella’s health improves, I will have her kneel in front of her aunt’s bed to apologize...”

”Mom.” Leony could not accept the result of kneeling to apologize, tugging Mrs. Davidson’s arm, she called out unhappily.
