The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 639: Chapter 639: Our System was Breached_1

”I...” Mentioning this, Alfred Garland found it somewhat difficult to speak. He moved his lips hesitantly and only after a long pause did he say softly, ”Amadeus and I went to inspect cargo at an overseas port...”

Nathalie Quinlan knew about the matter even without his explanation, as the cargo was her raw stones.

She followed Alfred Garland inside the building and noticed there were still quite a few people in the hallway, either standing or sitting, all exuding an aggressive atmosphere not to be trifled with.

Some were even holding computers.

Seeing Alfred Garland leading her over, some frowned with sharp glances that fell on her like knives, scrutinizing and rejecting.

They seemed puzzled as to why Alfred Garland would let her through.

”And then?”

Alfred Garland looked up at her. Normally, this was supposed to be confidential, and he shouldn’t have told Nathalie Quinlan, but for some reason, he felt an inexplicable trust towards the girl in front of him.

”During the inspection, Amadeus and the others left me alone at the base to guard the personal belongings and computers. I thought it would be easy, so I didn’t stay fully alert. Shortly after they left, a local girl, about four or five years old, ran over. I saw her in tattered clothes picking up empty water bottles that the workers had thrown away and didn’t pay her any attention. However, she took advantage of the moment I answered a phone call to sneak over and poison Amadeus’s water cup and also stole a chip from the computer...”

”Unaware, Amadeus and the others came back. After Amadeus took a sip of the water, he immediately realized something was off and spat out the poisoned water, but some of it still entered his stomach through his throat. The doctor just performed gastric lavage on Amadeus and gave him a shot of a special antidote. But Amadeus still hasn’t woken up.”

Upon hearing that they managed to clean his stomach in time and administered an antidote, Nathalie Quinlan’s tense back relaxed quite a bit. She asked with a solemn voice, ”What did the doctor say?”

Alfred Garland, consumed by guilt, lowered his head with an uncomfortable expression and said, ”The doctor said Amadeus’s life is not in danger, but he will need time to wake up.”

”It’s all because of my negligence that Amadeus was poisoned and the chip was stolen. Now, those people are using the stolen chip to continuously attack The Ninth Institute’s defense systems. And with Amadeus not awake, I...”

He couldn’t continue.

In the hallway, someone else couldn’t bear to listen any longer. A burly man stepped forward, looked disdainfully at Nathalie Quinlan, and spoke irritably, ”Alfred Garland, why are you telling her all this? Who is she, and why did you let an irrelevant person in here, don’t you know Amadeus isn’t awake?”

Alfred Garland inherently wanted to protect Nathalie Quinlan and was about to speak up.

Then he saw a member of the IT department, holding a computer and walking over quickly with a very unpleasant look on his face, saying, ”Team leader, what should we do, our defense system has been breached.”

”What?” Wallace Radcliff’s face color changed dramatically, and his interest in dealing with the two waned immediately. He ran his fingers through his hair, entirely beside himself with irritation, ”What did Xavier Rabenstein say, can’t he hold them back?”

Xavier Rabenstein was one of the most talented IT experts at The Ninth Institute.

The IT member reporting shook his head with a pale and ashen face, glanced subtly toward Alfred Garland, and said in a lowered voice, ”There’s nothing we can do. No one can handle it. The core chip of The Ninth Institute is in their hands, and they can easily breach our defense system just by using the chip. We’ve done our best to block it, changing the defense programming, but the effect isn’t good.”

Such major defense software can’t be completed in one or two days; only minor details could be adjusted. Moreover, the adversary was also a computer expert, who, clutching the chip, completely ignored their small obstacles and went straight for the defense system. They were utterly helpless against this kind of strategy!
