Ms. Diviner: The Prodigal Daughter's Return

Chapter 386: 386 Fen Qianji’s dream

”Has he returned, truly has he returned?” the elder murmured dreamily, his brows deeply furrowed in a frown.

”See if Qian Ji has awakened?” asked the elder.

”Not yet.” In the empty great hall, an emotionless response echoed abruptly.

”Go and check. It’s been half a year; he should have awakened by now,” the elder said, his voice deep and furred. ”If he has awoken, have him see me immediately.”

”Yes.”

Fen Qianji lay on the cold stone bed, his eyes firmly shut.

How long had he slept? He wasn’t quite sure; it felt like just a moment, yet also like a thousand, ten thousand years.

He seemed to have had a dream, where a bizarre patchwork of broken images flashed chaotically through his mind, so jumbled that he couldn’t make heads or tails of them.

That’s what dreams are like.

Sword light flashed, like lightning piercing the night sky over a desolate plain, and an indistinct face suddenly appeared before his eyes. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t make out the features, but he intuitively felt her poignant, stunning beauty. He could also feel the endless pain and reluctance in her heart.

His heart was instantly torn apart, the pain penetrating to the bone.

The indistinct face slowly faded, and his heart, at last, began to regain its calm.

Should he wake up now? Such a dream was anything but pleasant.

Yet, he didn’t wish to awaken; without that heart-wrenching pain, what remained was boundless longing.

Even he couldn’t understand how such emotions could arise within him.

The images in his dream grew fainter and blurrier, and no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t recall what had happened in the dream. However, the pain and longing were deeply branded into the depths of his mind.

Why had he had such a strange dream, and why the intense pain and longing? His heart was filled with confusion, as if something lingered at the bottom of his heart, elusive and inescapable.

What exactly was it? His eyes tightly shut, he drifted off into sleep again unconsciously.

...

Mu Hanyan stretched lazily, opening his eyes to look outside the window. The sun was rising in the east, casting warm light upon the branches, with wisps of mist still floating near the window. It turned out he had accidentally slept until the next morning.

Yawning, Mu Hanyan got dressed and washed up, then ate the breakfast that Xixi had prepared.

”Xixi, you’re getting married next month, right? Here, this is for you.” After wolfing down three buns, Mu Hanyan pulled something out from his pocket and handed it to Xixi.

Xixi took it, puzzled, but her face changed abruptly when she saw what was in her hand. A silver note worth 50,000 taels!

”Young Master, I can’t accept this!” Xixi hurriedly tried to give it back.

”I’m quite wealthy now. This is your dowry! With money, you’ll have confidence. If your cousin doesn’t treat you well, divorce him and find another man. There are plenty of good men out there.” Mu Hanyan waved his hand nonchalantly, ”If you run out of money, just ask me for more. Now, take it and stop fussing.”

Xixi felt touched, amused, and a little annoyed all at once. 50,000 taels was undoubtedly a vast sum for her; the young master had given her so much as a dowry, ensuring she’d never worry about food or drink in her lifetime. As for remarrying, that left Xixi speechless.

Xixi wanted to say more, but just then someone came running in, all in a flurry.

”Hey, Brother Han Yan, eating, huh? Perfect timing; I haven’t eaten yet. Let me finish, and then I’ll tell you some good news.” The person who came in was Mu Nan, who sat down at the table without any ceremony and reached for the buns.

(The explosion of action is over; how does it feel? Well then, let’s meet at seven o’clock tomorrow morning. Asking for a monthly ticket, awoo! A wolf’s howl!)
