Ms. Diviner: The Prodigal Daughter's Return

Chapter 365: 365 days of resentment

”Fourth Uncle, you really came back.” Seeing Mu Ziqing leap off the carriage, the younger members of the Mu Family were all faces alight with surprise.

Although Mu Ziqing was an elder, his age was not much greater than theirs, and with his gentle nature and lack of pretentious elder demeanor, he was extremely popular among the younger generation.

”I’m back, I’m sorry to have worried everyone,” Mu Ziqing greeted them, inwardly giving a bitter smile.

He had not expected the Great Elder and the Second Elder to be so eager to make things difficult for Mu Hanyan; they didn’t even bother to ask about the details of the trip before rushing to administer family punishment.

Unfortunately, he had awoken a bit too late. The moment he opened his eyes, he overheard Mu Hanyan’s questioning of the Second Elder. He had hoped that the two elders would know when to back down and not persist with the issue, but to his dismay, the Great Elder was relentless. Worried that the situation might become increasingly awkward, he quickly revealed himself to vouch for Mu Hanyan.

”Ziqing!” The Great Elder was clearly taken aback upon seeing Mu Ziqing.

Unlike the joy of the younger Mu family members, his surprise far outweighed his happiness. He trusted that the Second Elder’s news would be accurate and he also understood more clearly than the younger members the vast chasm between a Sword Master and a Swordsman. Therefore, it was beyond his wildest dreams that Mu Hanyan could have truly rescued Mu Ziqing from the hands of Yan Yuchu.

The expressions on both the Second Elder and the Third Elder were the same, too astonished to speak.

”Family Head, Hanyan really didn’t lie. I can vouch for him,” Mu Ziqing emphasized again.

”Oh, since Ziqing can vouch for it, let’s consider this matter over. Let’s not delve into it any further, everyone can disperse,” the Great Elder finally regained his composure and waved his hand as he spoke.

Although he had wanted to take this opportunity to discipline Mu Hanyan and fiercely undermine Mu Rui’an’s prestige, Mu Ziqing had escaped danger and even testified in person, so it was inconvenient to further trouble her.

What, just like that, it’s over? Nearly all of the Mu Family’s disciples were stunned.

No matter who it was, whenever someone returned from a mission, regardless of success or failure, and as long as no great faults were committed, the elders would hold a banquet to welcome them back and then discuss merits and rewards. Even if no significant achievements were made, there would still be some words of comfort.

But this time, just letting everyone disperse like this?

Although it was known beforehand that the Second Elder sending Mu Hanyan to Xiushui City was with ill-intentions, and the Great Elder and Second Elder’s aggressive stance was clear, regardless of that, Mu Hanyan’s successful rescue of Mu Ziqing and ensuring his safe return was a significant merit—it shouldn’t just be brushed off so lightly.

While they didn’t have much regard for Mu Siyi, the Mu Big playboy known for disgracing the family with his treatment of men and women, seeing the unfair treatment by the two elders still caused resentment on his behalf.

However, aside from the anomaly that was Mu Hanyan, everyone else in the Mu Family had strict upbringing and even if there were grievances, nobody dared to voice them out loud.

”Great Elder, I fell into a precarious situation in Xiushui City, and thanks to Hanyan’s intervention, I was able to escape safely. According to our Mu Family’s tradition, we should discuss merits and dispense rewards,” they didn’t dare to speak, but Mu Ziqing dared, given his higher status by a generation.

”It wasn’t just him who went to Xiushui City; the recognition of merits shouldn’t just concern him alone,” the Great Elder, who did not wish to give Mu Hanyan an opportunity to stand out, initially wanted to lightly gloss over the matter. Unexpectedly, Mu Ziqing insisted on bringing up the very issue he wanted to avoid, prompting the Great Elder to speak irritably.

”If not for Brother Han Yan’s sole effort, we may not have even been able to reach Xiushui City, let alone think about returning,” seeing Mu Ziqing speak up, Mu Yuying also boldly stated.
