Quick Transmigration: The Cannon Fodder's Comeback in the Era Tales

Chapter 726: Chapter 726: Fleeing Famine 31

Among the seven people who came, there were three couples, who were assigned to three rooms. Only Huo Guochang was single, and he stayed in one room by himself.

The room was piled with a lot of straw. They moved the straw to one side, leaving an empty corner, then used the straw to make a bed, covered it with a shabby quilt, and slept on it just like that.

When they arrived, they didn’t bring anything. Those shabby quilts were donated by the villagers after the brigade leader saw their pitiful condition and organized a collection.

They were also given a chipped clay pot to cook with.

They borrowed fifty pounds of grain from the brigade.

For everything else, they had to fend for themselves.

Yuan Chun focused intently on Huo Guochang. He had injured a leg, and it seemed to hurt a lot. He was massaging that leg, and each time he pressed it, his brow twitched in pain.

Yuan Chun directed his spiritual power into his leg and discovered that his left calf was more swollen than his thigh; the bone was broken.

Perhaps it was because of what 007 said for him, or maybe it was because this body was blood-related to him, or maybe it was out of respect for him as a retired general who had rendered great service to the nation and the people. Yuan Chun quietly activated his spiritual power to set his broken bone back in place.

He also used spiritual power to hold it steady, to prevent it from breaking again when he went to work the next day.

At this moment, 007 spoke, ”Host, Huo Guochang is really unfortunate. When he was three, the Huojia identified him as a bastard. Mrs. Huo blamed Yao Wanhua for her son’s humiliation and, not daring to confront Yao Wanhua, secretly abused Huo Guochang.”

”After Fifth Young Master Huo died, Old Madam Huo claimed publicly that her fifth son was jinxed to death by Huo Guochang. She even had the servants whip Huo Guochang severely. If Yao Wanhua hadn’t arrived in time to save him, he would have died.”

”In his lifetime, Huo Guochang never had a single good day.”

sighed and looked distressed.

It was the first time Yuan Chun had seen it exhibit such intense human emotion, ”007, do you care about him so much?”

”Host, I just pity him. Such a good old hero, in his old age, is reduced to living in a cowshed, working the fields, living more harshly than an old farmer.”

Yuan Chun was indifferent, ”The military is like a battlefield. He stood so high, wielded so much power, how many people must have been watching him, yet he was caught off guard and ended up here. That makes him a failure. As a failure, there’s nothing pitiable about him.”

”Host, you have no sympathy at all.” 007 pretended to wipe a tear.

Yuan Chun sneered, ”I, an old woman who works hard every day to earn work points to support my grandchildren, should sympathize with a leader like him? What makes him deserving of my sympathy?” 𝑓𝑟ℯℴ𝓂

”He has a broken leg and lives in a cowshed, isn’t that pitiful enough?”

”When he was a leader, enjoying all the prestige, did he ever think to pity me, the old woman?” Yuan Chun retorted.

was left speechless.

Yuan Chun withdrew his spiritual power, turned over, and closed his eyes to sleep.

In the blink of an eye, two months passed.

Geng Dalin came in holding a basin of meat, his eyes squinting with joy, ”Mom, our family was allocated eight pounds of meat this year. The brigade leader also gave me two big bones, a pig’s intestine, and a pair of pig’s ears.”

Sun Chunfeng looked at the basin full of meat and smiled, ”So much meat, Mom, why don’t we make some meatballs to eat this year?”

”Sure, as long as you’re happy and want to eat them, we’ll make meatballs tomorrow,” Yuan Chun said with a smile.
