Quick Transmigration: The Cannon Fodder's Comeback in the Era Tales

Chapter 708: Chapter 708: Fleeing Famine 13

Fresh bamboo has bamboo sap, but the bamboo trees in front of us are almost dried up and dying. Even if there was bamboo sap before, it’s all dried up by now.

Didn’t you see that Yuan Chun is pretending to support the bamboo with one hand? All of this water was released from her space. She wants the Geng family to have water, so she came up with this trick to fool them.

Luckily, the five children are easy to deceive, and Geng Dalin and Sun Chunfeng are also rural folks without much experience, so Yuan Chun’s casual trick actually convinced them.

Yuan Chun chopped down two bamboo trees in a row, filling the large wooden barrel.

Then, she moved on to the third bamboo. This time, no water came out, but a bamboo rat ran out. Yuan Chun swiftly reached out and caught the bamboo rat.

”Xiao Wu’s wife, bring a basket.”

”Mom, is this... a baby mouse?”

”This is called a bamboo rat, and it’s edible.”

Seeing the bamboo rat trying to crawl out of the basket, Yuan Chun flicked her finger, bouncing the little bamboo rat back to the bottom. ”Xiao Wu’s wife, find something to cover it with, don’t let it escape.”

”Okay, Mom.”

Sun Chunfeng’s eyes lit up upon hearing that the bamboo rat could be eaten.

This was food, and she couldn’t let it get away.

She handed the bamboo rat to the children to watch, and hurriedly rummaged through the cart, finding a wooden pot lid to cover the basket.

Geng Xiaowen squatted beside the basket, pressing her small face tightly against it, peering at the bamboo rat through the gaps.

Geng Xiaozen smacked her lips and said, ”Grandma, can we eat this little mouse? Is it tasty?”

”It’s delicious. It’s all meat, a meaty dish. How can it not be tasty? When Grandma catches a few more, we’ll start a fire, and Grandma will make you bamboo rat soup.”

”Oh, oh, oh, we’re going to have meat to eat!”

The children happily circled around Yuan Chun and the basket.

Yuan Chun laughed, ”If you want to eat meat, go and prepare the firewood. Don’t surround Grandma. The knife in Grandma’s hand doesn’t have eyes, and I don’t want you to get hurt.”

Geng Dalin had already hidden the water and, hearing his mother’s words, called the four older children to gather firewood, leaving Geng Xiaowen behind with Sun Chunfeng.

Using her spiritual power, Yuan Chun chopped accurately.

With each chop, a bamboo rat jumped out of the cut bamboo stalk. After catching over thirty bamboo rats, Yuan Chun directed Geng Dalin to light a fire, deftly processing the bamboo rats, cleaning and chopping them, then setting up a large pot, tossing the bamboo rat pieces into it, adding a small spoonful of salt and a half bucket of clear water, and covering it to simmer slowly.

Geng Dalin and Sun Chunfeng saw a bucket of water halved in no time, their hearts aching, but no one dared to say a word.

An hour later, the aroma of meat filled the air. The children circled the iron pot, sniffing and swallowing eagerly, eyes fixed on the pot.

After another half hour, Yuan Chun finally lifted the lid, took the bowls brought by Sun Chunfeng, and served each of the five children a bowl of meat soup.

Then she served the three adults.

Eight members of the family gathered around the large pot, no one speaking, all heads down, eating heartily. Geng Xiaowu and Geng Dalin each had three bowls, Geng Xiaowen had one bowl, and the others had two bowls each.

After finishing a large pot of meat soup, the Geng family all felt alive again.

Geng Xiaowen put down his bowl, still licking his fingers that had been holding the bones, and looked at his grandma with longing, ”Grandma, the meat soup is delicious. I want to have meat soup again tomorrow.”

Yuan Chun left the task of cleaning up the bowls and chopsticks to her son and daughter-in-law, then hugged Geng Xiaowen, kissing his thin face and saying, ”Since my little grandson has made a request, Grandma definitely has to satisfy you. We’ll have meat soup again tomorrow morning.”
