Quick Transmigration: The Cannon Fodder's Comeback in the Era Tales

Chapter 69: Chapter 69: The Poor Child Killed by Her Uncle 25

The villagers were clamoring, putting forward quite a few suggestions.

The old village chief nodded to each one, responding, ”I’ve discussed with the team leader, we plan to plant forty percent sweet potatoes, twenty percent potatoes, twenty percent soybeans, ten percent millet, and ten percent sorghum.”

Corn is not drought-resistant, so forget it.

As for planting millet and sorghum, it’s because eating too many sweet potatoes causes heartburn. We can’t just eat sweet potatoes, we have to complement them with some grains.

Just hoping that the crops planted can yield some harvest.

The old village chief said, ”In the past two years, our village has dug six wells and two reservoirs. If a big drought comes, twenty percent of millet and sorghum can still be preserved, but if planted too much, they’ll also die from drought.”

The villagers then understood why in the past two years, whenever there was free time, the old village chief would lead them to dig wells and reservoirs everywhere. It turns out it was to prevent drought disaster.

The villagers all praised the old village chief for planning ahead.

Very soon it was July, the old village chief stood at the edge of the field, looking at the withered crops, his brows furrowed like rough sea cucumbers, ”In this half-year, there have been only two rains, the rainwater wet the surface of the land and stopped. If it continues to be this dry, the crops will all die from drought.”

Beside him, Liu Tielin also had a face full of worry, ”Luckily in our village, we followed your advice and planted mostly sweet potatoes and potatoes, not afraid of drought, and that bit of millet and sorghum is supported by water from the reservoirs, but in other villages, I heard that the corn seedlings in the neighboring team’s fields all died from drought.”

”Sigh... Heavens, are you trying to take people away.”

The old village chief said this and then fell silent, full of concerns.

The earth is dry and cracked, Xiaxi Village mostly planted sweet potatoes and potatoes, not much work in the fields, enough for the men to handle, so the village chief’s wife organized the village’s women and children to go to the mountains to dig wild vegetables, gather mushrooms, pick wild fruits, whatever was edible, bringing them home to dry and store.

If there is a crop shortfall, these things can also stave off hunger.

Yuan Chun carried a small basket and quickly broke away from the villagers’ group, quietly heading into the deep mountains.

There’s not much to eat on the outskirts of the deep mountains. She didn’t want to fight with the village women for it, she wanted to go deep into the mountains to catch big game to eat.

”Host, there is a wild deer in front drinking water.”

reminded her.

Yuan Chun smiled, ”After walking all morning, finally found a water source.”

This is only the first year of the drought, and Xiaxi Team’s reservoir is about to dry up, and the water in the wells is dropping every day. When next year comes, if the drought worsens, Xiaxi Team will face serious water shortages. She wanted to find a water source for the village.

If it can’t irrigate the fields, it’s still enough for villagers’ daily drinking needs.

To prevent villagers from dying of thirst.

”Host, there’s an underground river beneath this mountain. This small creek connects to the underground river, but the water level of the underground river is also dropping, and sooner or later this small creek will dry up.”

”007, can you help me see if it’s possible to dig out the water from the underground river?”

007: ”Host, I can find a place closest to the underground river and dig a well, but the underground river is too deep for manual digging, it requires machines.”

007: ”The mall sells well-drilling equipment and water pumps, with free and infinitely long pipes, host, do you want to buy one?”

”No need.”

If she uses a water pump, how could she explain it to the old village chief?

This technology doesn’t belong to this world, she absolutely cannot expose it, otherwise, she fears being captured and dissected.

Even though she doesn’t think anyone can catch her, she’s afraid of trouble.

She doesn’t want to be watched.

Alright, at worst, tonight she’ll suck up the underground river’s water and place it in the reservoirs and wells.
