Quick Transmigration: The Cannon Fodder's Comeback in the Era Tales

Chapter 54: Chapter 54: The Poor Child Killed by Her Uncle 10

”Cheng Fang, didn’t you go to school?” Little Yuan Chun suddenly asked.

Cheng Fang scratched his head, somewhat bitterly saying, ”I... I went to study, but then no one would take care of the work in the fields. I can’t always rely on the village chief and others to help; I’ve grown up now and need to support myself. I just don’t have time to study, although there are many kids in the village who don’t study either. It’s not just me.”

Cheng Fang really wanted to go to school, very much so. He didn’t want to be blind to the world, unable to even write his own name in the future. But he needed to make a living, he had no money for school.

Even if he sold grain for money, he couldn’t afford his own education.

The fact that he’s even able to fill his stomach is already quite good.

”Cheng Fang, how about I teach you?” Little Yuan Chun said earnestly, ”I’m in second grade and I can write many characters. After school, I’ll teach you. I’ll teach you five characters a day, and in a month, you’ll know over a hundred characters. In a year, you’ll know over a thousand characters.”

Cheng Fang’s eyes lit up, ”Yuan Chun, you really are willing to teach me to read?”

”Why would I joke with you?”

”Then... then okay, I’ll... next time I go to town, I’ll buy a pencil and a notebook, and I will study hard, study seriously.”

Cheng Fang was so excited he stuttered, which amused Little Yuan Chun.

She ran into the house, came out holding her first-grade textbook, and stuffed it into Cheng Fang’s hands, ”This is my first-grade book. I don’t use it anymore, you take it to study.”

Little Yuan Chun had attended first grade last year and moved on to second grade in the fall. Because of her grandfather’s death, her grandaunt applied for a half-month leave from school for her.

Cheng Fang was once again so excited that he stuttered, ”Th-thank you, sister.”

In the following days, after finishing their chores, the two kids would sit together to learn words, one teaching seriously, the other learning seriously. By the time Yuan Chun went back to school, Cheng Fang could already recognize over a hundred characters.

Meanwhile, on her first day back at school, Yuan Chun didn’t want to go anymore. She really didn’t want to sit in the middle of a noisy bunch of little kids.

During the break, she went to find the principal and cried to him, ”My grandfather is gone, my dad sacrificed himself too, I am the only one in my family. I have to support myself, take care of myself, and really have no time to attend school. Principal, can I just come for the exams and not for the classes? I promise that I’ll study hard at home, and I guarantee my grades will be the best in the class.”

After giving many assurances, the principal reluctantly agreed to her request.

It was also because she was the child of a martyr that the principal showed her extra kindness.

The principal called her teacher over, explained the situation, and Little Yuan Chun happily followed the teacher back to the classroom, packed her little school bag, and went home.

As she entered the village, she saw Liu Tiezhu with a distressed face, sending two police officers off the village.

Little Yuan Chun raised a smiling face and shouted from afar, ”Second Uncle.”

As she got closer, she crisply showed her concern, ”Second Uncle, I heard you and Second Aunt have been really unlucky lately, falling three times a day like you were cursed. Second Aunt even went to Ge Family Village to invite a spirit medium for a big ritual. Second Uncle, are you and Second Aunt okay now? Will you still keep falling?”

Liu Tiezhu’s face turned dark, and he really wanted to smack this cheeky girl, but with the two police officers standing nearby, he didn’t dare to act out. He could only suppress his anger and say, ”Stop talking nonsense, there’s no spirit medium. We just weren’t careful walking, but we’re fine now.”

”Oh, that’s good. Second Uncle, what are these two gentlemen doing?” Little Yuan Chun’s curious gaze was now intently on the police officers.
